My Nick's have been amazing, I work in an office but live isolated in the Rockies and quickly destroy every other boots just walking around. I've worn nothing else since I got them a year ago. That’s a good point. I think just walking around is work, at least for me, as, like you, I destroy most of my footwear just walking around. Even if you’re not a lumberjack, just having a boot that doesn’t fall apart from being worn around a lot makes it worth buying something like this Nick’s boot.

I agree with everything you said here. Nicks are intentionally built to be workhorses. They incorporate the thickest, highest quality leathers available into both the upper and the sole for longevity. Their intention isn't a casual or a luxury boot, but rather something that can stand the serious test of time! Definitely something I'd want to wear in the trenches hahaha

I own the Nicks Falcon (8" in Predator Orange) and the Nicks BuilderPros (10" in 1964 brown) - I use them for motorcycle riding. Make no mistake about it, the Falcon is an overbuilt beastly boot as well. It weighs 30% more than more than my Iron Rangers and the leather is 50% thicker than the copper rough and tough. I do prefer the Falcons to the BuilderPros though - the block heal with the 430 mini lug makes the boot much more versatile in general.

Another advantage of higher heels are when you bend your knees down to pick up something heavy or squat in general, normally your heel comes off the ground and your balancing yourself on the ball of your foot, with higher heel boots like that your heel is going to stay grounded making for a more stable, balanced and comfortable motion.

Definitely a great review as someone who has owned a pair of these for over a year I would definitely say they're not for everyone especially those who are geared towards Style versus function I would rather tell them go for a Americana A Roberts or a falcon with a smaller heel and less aggressive tread but if you're looking for something that is going to last decades and that is built for anything you can throw at it Nick's is definitely the way to go

I think my Nicks are perfect. Definitely not a city boot, but for me and many others who live in the cold north of the America's they are great snow/rain boots with leather so thick you can stand in a river in the winter and feel no difference. I just got my customized Urban Loggers, all eyelets, completely brown sides to match the brown roughout chromexcel. I'm a city woman who teaches and plays synths, so they are way overbuilt for 99% of what I do (though once upon a time I did carpentry work and worked in a warehouse). I've worn higher heels so that's not an issue, and in the hour I wore them today (the day they arrived) they are probably even heavier than the giant gothy platformed and buckled boots I've owned. I know I don't need them but I was sold on just how overbuilt they are. The toughest thing I'll probably put them through is a hike but they look good enough I'd wear them on stage. I'm sure I'll get comments that I don't need them but if I ever do need them, but I love how tough they are.

I completely agree with this video. I got my urban loggers two years ago and I have struggled to find times to wear them. I absolutely love them and had them built exactly the way I wanted. However, as you mentioned, I should have done the Americana, Falcon or Robert. It is purely a fun boot for me and I dont do any work in it. I have dedicated motorcycle boots so I wouldnt use these with that either. I feel bad that these will never look well worn. However, what I did learn from these boots is how inferior most other boots are, and I pick apart everything else I buy because of that. I discovered through the building process that Im a C width and wish more companies would offer that. For instance, I love my Grant Stones but they only come in D width. I had to put insoles in so my feet wouldnt have so much room. Anyway, fantastic video as always!

Great review. Long time watcher, first time comment or on your channel. I have the overlander (1964, normal heel, 8in) and the hot shots (black 10in extra thick sole, logger heel) from nicks. As far as looking out of place, I think it is that you wear skinnier pants and show the whole boot. In fact, outside of people who use work boots, no one has ever commented on my nicks (and those who work in boots were very complimentary and some have bought nicks). The one thing I don’t like about the urban logger is that it is too short with the logger heel. It’s a bit unstable to me so I prefer the 8in or 10in. After quite a bit of wear they feel perfect for walking and standing around and, given I don’t log or fight fires, I am fairly well convinced they will last as long as I do.

They are definitely on my bucket list. I just need to get the size squared away as I don’t want to risk getting the wrong size after a long wait. I’m presently wearing a Thursday Captain in 8.5 D and they fit very well but wish they were available in an E width. Great video as always.

I’ve heard Thursday’s run a little narrow. You’d probably be good in a Nicks D width.

I’m sure they do a custom fit where you can send in a drawing of your feet and your measurements. I’m in the same boat and just bought a pair of Franks boots. Sent in a drawing and my measurements to let them decide what would be best.

@@MordecaiAliVanAllenOShea Yes, they do run narrow. Soon, I will go to a proper shoe store and get measured with a Brannock device. Nick’s can then calculate the right size from that to get the proper fit, I hope.

@@flfbsphatboyblue8970 just go a 1/2 size down from your brannock measurement and you should be good. Don’t sweat it too much, if they don’t fit right you can send them back for a different size.

I also have Thursday's Captain's in 8.5D. You will want Nick's in 8E if they're the HNW last and maybe 7.5E if they're on the 55 or 67 last🤙🏻 I have 3 pairs of Nick's all in 8E HNW lasts👍🏻 And they are perfect👌🏻 I originally got my first pair of Nick's in 8D but had to return them for 8E because they run a tad narrow.

As always, thanks for your honesty Nick; viewers appreciate and respect that. I’d appreciate your thoughts on these as opposed to your 350 Cruisers. Any feedback to share? I got my first pair of Nicks 6 weeks ago (Robert’s) to see if I could adapt to the high arch and heels. For me they’re outstanding but am considering the 350 cruisers for second pair to rotate. I’m thinking arch support and weight distribution is much less in the 350’s…?

incredible boots, I had my eye on them but you make a very good point for it maybe being inappropriate for a city guy like me. Maybe I'll tone it down a bit and go for one of their other styles lol

I have a pair of The Maverick's which was a Collab with @noblemansapothecary, it's a 6" black boot with brown accents with the Vibram V700 sole, there's actually a video on KZfaq about the boot. It still has a tall heel, but much dressier (in my opinion) than the Urban Logger, though, had I not chosen The Maverick, it would've been the Urban Logger (for day hikes, going into the woods, etc., etc.) Love your videos!

Another justification id add to the urban side of this boot would be the arch support. Boots made with the veg tan leather insoles etc arent gonna have the same kind of arch support as a logger boot will. Yea you can find moderate arch support in other styles. But typically, the lower the heel, the lower the support. So if you have high arches, the extra weight and rigidity of this boot might be worth it for you

Alas, Nicks is outside my budget, and I'm going to be moving to Norway soon, so the wait time is a deal breaker anyway. Fortunately I grabbed some Thursday loggers which should be here tomorrow.

In the long run, you save money not having to replace boots all the time. Plus, you won’t be breaking in boots all the time. These you break-in, resole and eventually rebuild if need be

I ordered mine last week. When they showed the ones on Instagram with the Horween natural CXL and the Vibram honey lugs I was sold. I have been wanting a pair of boots with that scooped tall logger heel and this is such a unique cobination/look I had to bite.....especially since they are only making 50 pairs. Only thing that has me worried is the weight. I am a city boot guy and usually wear BedStu, Redwing, or Untamed Street but these Nicks are so unique. Maybe it will be more of a cosplay type thing for me but I think I am in a rural enough area I can make that work. Thanks for the great reviews as always !! (On a side note, I know you are not much of a zipper guy but have you ever checked out the BedStuboots? Specifically their Protege Trek? They are quick and easy to put on, strongest zipper I have ever had on a boot, they are comfy, tough, and always get compliments.....may be worth checking out. )

I'm glad he made the acknowledgement that these boots aren't really for everyone. I wear Nicks Builder Pros for work and while I could wear some jeans with them and go out grocery shopping or running errands I usually don't. Nicks makes work boots first, fashion boots second, and while these have some elements of both I say these lean too far into work boots for most people to really get their money's worth out of them.

Personally, I love Nick's, and found that their HNW last is a near-perfect match to my foot. You want heavy, though? I have a pair of the ND1s (the 1st colab with Rose Anvil) and I love them, but those things are like wearing tank armor on your feet.

The “stolen valor” comment made me chuckle. If you dedicate an entire week to these, all day everyday, you’ll forget about the heel and the extra wide sole because no one else will notice it and you’ll appreciate how the arch improves your posture. Great vid, it was a lot to unpack.

Thanks man. I always felt like the big heel pitched me forward a bit, but maybe it would improve posture! My pelvis is kind of anterior tilted though so maybe not great for me

I believe the heel is the same height as the Robert and the 350 Cruiser, but the lugged sole gives you an extra half inch of height. I don’t think it’s the heel but the sole that makes you self conscious. Sorry, I’m breaking in a pair of smokejumpers so I feel your pain.

I think a huge part of what you're talking about is due to the lug sole. I have a pair of White's that are mostly city boots but do get a decent amount of wear offroad in the countryside through mud, gravel, fields, etc. that are on a commando sole, and when they're due for a rebuild I was thinking about throwing that V100 sole on them. But the more I think about it, the more I think I'd wind up in just the territory you're talking about - going from "this guy has a cool sort of heritage, rugged style" to "this is cosplay." Simply swapping out the V100 for something like a Vibram 430, 700/705, 269, or a Dr. Soles sole would maintain the heritage look but bring you back into the realm of the sensible, all other things about the boot remaining the same.

Some interesting points that I had never really considered before. It may be a dumb question but with such a high heel and sole unit, how stable did you find them? I ask as I love logger style boots but have issues with ankle roll.
