In this video I will offer a full review of the Pergear LaserStorm S10, which is a solid high-end entry in the competitive diode laser engraver market. This laser goes beyond the basics by providing a very high power 10W laser module, limit switches and a nice handheld display controller - all in a very neat package. So is this the best laser available? Watch this review to get end-to-end coverage and decide for yourself.

I've owned the Atomstack for over a year and love it. Z axis isn't an issue for me and focus distance is about an 1/8 th of an inch. The 10 watt is great and I've heard that they are better then the newer 20 watt as they engrave better than the 20 watt. Just keep in mind if you are going to practice with making things with your laser you might as well make things that people might want to buy. That's what I did and have paid off my laser in a year just practicing and selling. I started with Laser GRBL as most might but have switched to Lightburn. Once you try it you'll never go back and it a great program for the money.

Just got mine and it came with glasses. Issue is the test files on the sd card do not work. Can get it do all the positionings but it never does anything when you click the start arrow. In lightburn works fine.

I don’t usually look at the samples because they tend to be artificially tuned to the laser. Not a surprise that companies do this of course, but it's not very useful for getting a real world feel for the machine. As long as things are working in LB I wouldn’t worry about it

Aw, I was convinced until you mentioned that the Z axis was a bit flimzy :( I got an Emblaser2 5 years ago but could not use it (for personal reasons) before last summer. I was struggling with this Z axis to get it in focus as the calibration was not working properly. I need very accurate cuts because I work at scale 1/320, 1/220 and 1/160 and I need to be able to cut pieces that are only 0.25 mm wide. Then, unfortunately, I got problems because a piece was broken since the delivery (the delivery company dropped it on the floor in front of me) and finally I could not get parallel lines anymore because in one direction they were not straight anymore. By trying to fix this with new fixations for the shafts, I ended "destroying" the mother board in some way but I don't know how. A new Emblaser 2 is about 3.500 € and I was interested by this Pergear Laserstorm mainly because it's like 5 times cheaper. Thank you ...

These are the same as an Atomstack laser. They’re a fine laser for the money, but in this price range I would lean toward the Longer Ray5.

@@SteveMakesEverything Hello! :) Thank you for your answer ! :) What I mostly need is a very good precision. I previously wrote 0.25mm but I meant 0.125 mm or so. So, I need a kerf of 0.1mm maximum. For scales 1/320, 1/220, 1/160, I am cutting very slim windows grilles (not sure of the word in English) or cutting half way tiny bricks (0.5x0.25mm) or a lot of rows of biberschwanz tiles with 0.5mm for the radius of the half circle (I basically needed a laser cutter mainly for that purpose. But it's quite demanding to the machine in terms of vibrations.) in paper and carton. I am not interested by usual engraving (for logos or drawings and so on). When I bought my Emblaser 2 five years ago, it was after hesitating for about 1 year. Now the market is flooded with many brands and it's even harder to decide. I only know that the motherboard of mine is destroyed and some shafts are wobbly and that, just to repair it, it will cost me about 1.000€, which is already double of the price of the cutter you are talking about. So, if I were sure of the precision of it, I would of course not hesitate at all to buy a new one and forget about repairing my Emblaser. Thank you ! :)

@@FougarouBe Getting an accurate kerf this size would be a challenge even with modern diode lasers. If I were you I would focus more on the actual dimensions of the cut piece you want. The kerf and the material on the other size of it are typically scrapped so they shouldn't really matter. Fortunately, tools like Lightburn has kerf compensation built-in so you can use those to ensure your final piece is the right side. The real issue you will have is keeping a .1mm window grille from turning into a burnt piece of wood.

@@SteveMakesEverything Hello. I replied to you on this with some links to some of my pictures where you can see that such a kerf is in fact possible but apparently KZfaq suppressed my answer because of those links as it is the rule. Grrrr.

as to z-axis, the atomstack a1o pro has an option of re-adjusting the plate the laser unit sits on. Once mounting it in the lower position, ot gives the laser unit a firm hold. Does that option not exist on the laserstorm, which really looks much alike to the a10

Since this appears to be a rebranded Atomstack X7pro I assume anything that applies to that laser also applies here

The Laserstorm 10 is a rebranded AtomStack S10 Pro. The mount isn't really a problem in the real world, since the laser doesn't move around during operation. I just think they could have done a better job. It's one of those compromises that gets made to keep the price lower.

Press the reset to see if starts correctly. Also try. connecting a usb cable and run either LaserGRBL or Lightburn to see what is on the console. I can’t remember if you need to have a memory card in the slot when using the laser

Do you think this laser could cut through 1/4" acrylic?
@SteveMakesEverything
@SteveMakesEverything 2 жыл бұрын
As long as the acrylic isn’t clear it should be able to cut through thicker material. It will require a bit of persistence though

Both great machines - it depends on your budget. If money wasn't an option I'd lean to the D1 just for the cleaner design, but the Laserstorm 10 will provide about the same performance given that both are 10W lasers

@@prepped8551 If you are starting from scratch I would recommend a 10W laser like the Laserstorm 10. 5 watt lasers are always cheaper but you will outgrow them quick unless you get something like an Ortur Laser Master 2 Pro where you can upgrade laser modules when you are ready.
