Thank you for identifying the need for a easy to use lens cap, engineering a solution and bringing a superior product to market at a fair price.

The Nikon lens cap/cover does fit comfortably over a reversed lens hood even when it is covered as mine is with a Lenscoat camo cover. It also gives additional protection to the lens when in its case.

Many scratches of the lens are done by lens cap from the moment mounting. Carefully use it on a lens with large front element.

When I got my first 300mm f2.8 lens back in the 80s I immediately bought a Nikon UV filter for it, just as I had for every other lens. Nikon quit building their long lenses with filter threads and switched to either built in protective elements that can be replaced, harder front element materials and/or protective lens coatings. So far I've never had any damage of any kind to any front elements, but I do take special care in handling, using and cleaning my equipment.

Does this cap have some room on the back or is it less than a millimetre away?

I had to look at the cap to see. The front element is very close to the end of the lens and the Zemlin cap is very sturdy and thick, the clearance between the two is very thin. I can assure you the only way the two could come into contact is if the lens was dropped from a substantial height and landed so that the center of the cap hit a protruding object. if that were to happen the cap would still lessen any damage to the front element.

I thank you for your video on the Zemlin lens cap which I have ordered, however the information on the Nikon supplied lens hood cover is greatly misleading and outrightly incorrect. I am a fan of Neoprene covers to protect my lens from scuffs and scratches, and have not 1, but 2 neoprene covers on my Nikon supplied lens hood. I can 'correctly' state that the stock lens hood cover fits over both with very little issue. Although I am not a fan of this type of cover, there will be people out there who simply do not want to fork out even more money on after market items, and therefore you really should be more accurate with product information.

Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. I'm glad to hear your neoprene cover is slick enough to allow the use of the Nikon soft lens cap. I prefer to use stretchy cling camo wrap like this, it's cheaper, offers great grip and I can wrap it on lenses, lens hoods, tripods, gimbals, monopods, binoculars, etc. www.amazon.com/AIRSSON-Camouflage-Military-Stretch-Self-Adhesive/dp/B01IBL00OA?th=1 Although I didn't demonstrate in the video, it is nearly impossible to get the Nikon soft cap on or off of the cling wrap so I have accurately described my experience with and dislike for the Nikon soft cap. I doubt that sharing my experiences with and general disappointment in the Nikon soft cover will force anyone 'fork out even more money on after market items' against their will. Perhaps you would like to make a video of your own expressing your affinity for your particular neoprene cover and its compatibility with the Nikon soft lens cap as a counterpoint. Please feel free to reference my video and provide a link to it if you so choose. In any event, I'm betting that you will be very impressed with the Zemlin lens cap. 🙂
