My bike is equipped with a newer battery pack using Samsung cells where the old packs used LG. This requires the P5 setting in the computer to be changed to 8 from 16 which is default. This appears to have resolved the freezing speedometer as well as the battery meter inaccuracy.
Thanks for the comments letting me know to make this change.

OK, missed this video by you until now. Nice review. For some reason none of the other reviews I watched pointed out display of volts (or I didn't notice it anyways) which is important to me as the bar system always kind of sucks. You also did the best job explaining how Wired assist levels work. Now I'm subscribed, thanks.

I agree, the voltage is the most accurate way to track battery life. With a change in settings the bars on the display are now pretty accurate but there are only 4 so you don't have as much granularity , but its not bad.

One of the better reviews I've seen. Bummer it's not a great climber as I live in a really hilly area. You think the new model is any better with the updated sprocket? Also I'm debating between the Freedom and Cruiser. I like not having to deal with a rear suspension but I'll be riding with my dog and it would be nice not to jar him around. I wonder if a good seat suspension would come close to the rear shock in terms of smoothness.

Totally agree with your use case!! I keep hearing mid drives are superior for climbing. Since you own both, can you show an incline where the Specialized can go where the Wired cannot using throttle or high pedal assist? The specialized I tried only gave you 2x assist. You had to really put in the work! Bet you put more miles on your Wired.
@shootthechit
@shootthechit 8 ай бұрын
There are a few things that make the mid drive better. The bike is lighter in general and has way lower gearing. Some of the steeper hills you go on with that style of bike you end up creeping along at a pretty slow pace and since the mid drive is running the power through the drivetrain you get the benefit of being able to utilize the additional power with the lower gears. With the hub motor, since the power is generated in the rear independent of the gears, you really need some RPM to have usable power, so they do better at higher speeds. Also, some of the super steep stuff I've seen, I wouldn't wanna end up there on the Wired lol. Wouldn't be fun getting back down. I have 4000 miles on the Specialized since 2020, but in a few weeks I almost have 300 on the Wired so I bet you're right about that.

Oh, I should have watched the whole video before I commented on inserts... Hoping I can set bike set up for good hill climbing. I might even ditch the large chain ring for 40 tooth or so and just use throttle if need 35 mph on the flats.. I see you made it up that steep grade, I have lots of those where I'll be riding. lol
@shootthechit
@shootthechit 4 ай бұрын
Interesting you mention this, because I do have a theory that the inserts are eating up some of the range. I'm going to switch to flat out and re-run a range test to see if that is the case. The inserts are nice for sure and gives you peace of mind while riding, but they are heavy (I would guess more than the liquid) and they add an additional layer of cushion, so no matter how high you inflate your tires, there is still going to be some give.
@Sherman1862
@Sherman1862 4 ай бұрын
I see, that makes sense, prob does decrease range with inserts as adds more contact area between tire and ground. Could be good though on the dirt for better traction, more forgiving ride... less range though, and on the street might be more sluggish... But will be looking forward to your "Test"' Thanks for your response though. Might try the sealant first. I hate changing flats in the middle of a ride!!! Buzz kill.. lol.. ; )@@shootthechit

I AM 5^8^ 69 YEARS OLD AND 250 lbs. I get on mine even though I also have a bad knee and some arthritis in both hips. I keep my seat at its lowest setting and I can also sit on the seat with my feet nearly flat on the ground. However, the 2024 W.F. is about 1 or 1.5 inches higher at the seat due to the mew style rear suspension. My inseam is only about 30 inches so you may have more seat clearance than I do.

Did you up the setting on the display? There are (3) different setting you can change to get the max power out of the bike. CitizenCycle (on KZfaq) maxed out the setting and was hitting 39 with just throttle on flat roads. Showing around 2200 watts peak. Oh - I think its literally impossible to accurately calculate range on these bikes. Many variables change it including a person's exact weight. Texture and type of ground plus any inclines or declines would alter the range as well.
@shootthechit

OH yea, that was the first order of business when I got the bike. Changed the settings right away. I tried this morning and got 34 mph on throttle alone but that wasn't on 100% battery. I’m thinking you might have some settings incorrect on the display, I have the same version Wired cruiser and have not had issues with the speedometer sticking. The battery bar does take a couple minutes to calibrate after draining/charging up the battery. Mine will also show 2-3 bars after a full charge for maybe 2 minutes into riding then corrects. Make sure you changed settings for the new Samsung battery vs old LG. Wired sent an email about it, make sure your P5 is set to 8.

My rear brakes continually squeal also even after a couple hundred miles of riding and braking. And you are correct, it does need much lower gears......it's almost impractical to use just as a bike and no assist if you ever have an opportunity to want to pedal only. The speedometer does stick, so I just use an app on my phone for accurate speed, but when it's working, it is accurate.
@shootthechit
@shootthechit 8 ай бұрын
I actually swapped my rear pads and it stopped the squeeling completely. It was really getting on my nerves. They are Tekro brand pads, but the compound is different. Good news is they are only 10 bucks on Amazon and super easy to swap out, took me 15 minutes. I also changed the P5 setting in my computer from 16 to 8 because my bike has the samsung battery cells and that looks to have fixed the sticking speedometer as well as the battery meter not being accurate. I've had mine for 3 weeks now and had 1 flat, but it was due to a nail. I know on my 29" MTB I have a tubeless setup and seen quite a few things puncture the tires but the sealant did its job. I totally just assumed with the larger tires these things would pick up thorns much easier so I didn't want to take that chance. I guess it largely depends on where and how you ride as well. I went with a ketels k800 pro for $1300. I wanted a 2000w dual hub bike for my big hills near me. If this company ever makes a dual hub bike I would jump on it.

First time hearing about that brand. Haven't ridden a dual hub bike as of yet, curious to how it feels. In theory I think I would like a single motor better to keep the front of the bike lighter to go up curbs etc but not sure how it works out in practice. I'm sure you will like it a lot, you really can't go wrong with a lot of these bikes

Bummer all new bikes come with better suspension and more upgrades. The Freedom model. People just getting theirs a few weeks ago got old models.

I like mine. August '23. Although there are changes, (some are improvements, others, well?) I like the rear suspension change, but I can just get my feet almost flat when sitting on the seat now. The new model is 1 to 1.5 inches taller and I would probably have a harder time handling it and getting on and off of it. Metal fenders might or might not be better, but I like that my front fender is longer than the new one. Battery is different, but is it better? Front fork may be better now, but mine does the job. 56 tooth front is slightly better, but is it THAT much better than 52? I like how my rear rack is attached better than the new(old?) design. It seems stronger and not coming into one attachment placing. I'm happy with my older design.😊 31:58

THAT is not a eMTB, so might as well put road tires on it, so it can get decent range for the battery size. It can go 40 mph or so; much more like a motorcycle; so it's not really safe to drive without a full face helmet, and a cycle jacket and pants. Good luck taking it on trails; it weighs 100 lbs. Meanwhile, it would be way more fun if it was a mid-drive. The new mid-drives have both throttles, and gear sensors; to cut motor power during shifting. Works great. And mid-drives climb hills WAY FASTER.

My brother has a mid drive Trek 29 inch and I have my Wired Freedom. We take them off road in the woods of Central PA. coal country. Shamokin/ Coal Twp. His is better for going through the forest passes hardly wider than a deer path because of his torque sensor. We raced up a 3/4 mile long, steep road and he kept up fairly well till he started getting winded. He is an avid biker with years of experience, while I just got back on a bike recently with buying my Freedom. We are both retired and I'm almost 70 and 250 lb. He is 66 and in much better shape than I am. That is why I got this type of bike instead of like his. Like ancient Rome, Shamokin is also a city on seven hills and I've taken mine up a few good ones from a stop and kept at least 14 mph on the worst one. These hills were several blocks long. I don't agree with this not being good on steep hills I enjoyed your video and wish we had bike paths here like you have in your area.

I think the bike does well on most hills, but starts to suffer on really steep hills if you don't use the higher assist levels like 4 or 5. Where I think the mid drive bikes do better is when you're crawling up a hill at 4 or 5 mph and have to use really low gears as the rear hub motor doesn't allow for the power to be routed through the drivetrain. With the Wired bike you have to keep your speed up to have usable power, it doesn't do well under 10mph imo, but in all honesty you will be able to climb enough hills to get yourself in plenty of trouble lol

By buying this bike realize what you are getting into. It is not quite a bicycle in a traditional sense - it does not feel like one - it does the job for you when pedal assist is on, and you can hardly move the thing when pedal assist is off. It is quite noisy, heavy and fragile at the same time. If you in the middle of nowhere would get a flat then you are stuck, you will not be able to move it much - may be a 0.25 of a mile if you are in good shape, but that is all. Be careful turning it upside down for repairs or tunning, you can damage it by its own weight, or you can damage your own back. Yes it is quite powerful, has decent battery life, feels very stable on the road and has sufficient breaking power, but do not assume you are getting a great bargain - when manufactured properly the thing would cost 5 grand or more, so expect overall material and manufacturing shortcomings - spongy breaks, easily puncturable tires, wobbly derailleurs, etc. Gen yourself tire repair kit, portable pump and basic repair tools and generally be quite gentle with the bike - in spite of its tuff looks it feels more like speedy lead marshmallow than a tank.

I have one at home and over time I’ve beat the thing to crap so I think it can handle some tools 😂. I have never gotten a flat on a e bike. It’s also not that heavy it’s like 88 pounds and on wheels it’s not terribly difficult to move and most e bikes have walk assist.

Clearly you don’t own one. Built like a tank. Brakes are great. Big brands spend a lot on marketing and overhead and you are welcome to bend over and pay.
