I took the plunge on the LS50 wireless 2 and they are currently my favorite thing that I own... worth every single penny of $2,500. The all in one solution is so convenient. Not having to worry about DACs or Amp matching. Just plug in and go. The HDMI connection for HT is a great touch too.

@@jimkyle571 I run them wired just because the quality is supposed to be better and where I have them setup I don’t really need the wireless functionality. Honestly I haven’t critically listened enough in both wireless and wired modes to say if there is a big difference in sound quality

These will be my next speakers - my friend has these paired with the KEF KC62 sub and they sound fantastic…..he uses the Naim Unity Star as his amp.

You are spot on! I use the Meta's as my main speaker in a smallish room paired with a Sonus faber Gravis sub. You'll be surprised to know that I drive them with a Chinese 300B ClassA amp putting out only 7.6 watts! But they sound incredible played via my Rega P6 Turntable and Musical Fidelity NuVista 3D CD player.

Thanks! Excellent review. I plan on going for the Wireless 2 version. Think I will use them for a while before deciding if I need to add a sub-woofer. KEFKC62 seems the logical option for that although a REL TX7 is well reviewed and less expensive.

I trust your opinion on this matter because your home is "perfect" judging from the wall finish, the door, the wall plug and the light switch; everything perfectly aligned. I think this is the way you like to live; i.e., you will not tolerate shoddy workmanship and you have high standards, but fair.

I agree 100%. I have never heard such a midrange like that before, not on the LS50 WII, not on the OG LS50, not on any speaker. The vocals jump out at you, all while being razor sharp with a hint of warmness. Vocals jumping isnt uncommon, midcentric speakers like Harbeth, Spendor and Wharfedale do just that but they just dont have that leading edge the Metas have. The soul of all music lies in the midrange, and midrange is what the Metas do best. I just wished the Metas would handle more volume, it runs out of steam relatively quick. Ive heard the OG R3s and I didnt like it one bit, they dont sound like the Metas at all. I want LS50 Meta that does distort as much, so a 3 way is inevitable. Ive yet to listen to the new R3 Metas and I hope I find what Im looking with them.

Great video Jiles, I really enjoyed it. I think that you definitely covered all the pertinent information bases. I have a smaller room where it is really convenient to use bookshelf/stand mount speakers. I am a big KEF fan from way back. Clarity of vocals is very important to me. I have Klipsch R-100SW subs that I think would work really well with these speakers. Have a great one man!

Vc já ouviu as Dynaudio Evoke 10? Se sim, o que achou de diferente entre elas e as LS50 Meta? Eu ouvi as Evoke 10 com o Marantz PM7000N e adorei o resultado.

@@JilesMcCoy I’d like to give the KEF’s a try. My main concern is whether they will really put out for theater use. I know you mentioned this, but not sure they would keep up at concert levels.

@@JilesMcCoy by the way, if I’m buying $1500 bookshelves, I’m not concerned about bass output at all, and I don’t really think anyone should be. Mid-bass dynamics could get lost in the middle though between your average home sub and most bookshelves.

Can you approve a 5.1 setup KEF LS50 Meta + SUB KC62 for Home Theater use ? The room is 3,70 x 5,10 and the walls are 4 meters high. Which side of the room is better for front channels ? lying down the central channel could affect the sound ?

Hi .. hello from india. Love your channel its so informative. I have an option to either go for evo 4.2 or meta i am getting both luckily for the same price... meta is my friends he is moving aborad so selling at same price as evos.. Planning to hook it up to audio lab 6000. Which would you recommend. I listen to all kinds of music except heavy metal.

The sound quite different but they are both good in their own right. It’s just a matter of preference.

Hey you might Try Dennis Murphys Philharmonic BMR Monitors. I think they will give the Metas a run for their money. The Philharmonic Version has a 6in woofer. The Salk Audio version has A 7 in Woofer. The philharmonic version is $1700. The Salk Version is $2300-2500 (Hand made custom Cabs and woofer upgrade)Hope you guys can review a pair.

How does these compare to the Bowers and Wilkins 706 S2? Love the 606 S2AE but not a fan of the non textured black cabinet. Pulled the trigger on the 706 S2s in Rosenut but it has not shipped yet since it was ordered over the weekend. Still time to cancel! 😁

I personally like the look and sound of the Metas. But I think this is really just personal opinion. I think the KEF sound exceptional.

@@JilesMcCoy Tried! But can’t find a dealer that sells a single meta. Was chatting with a fellow from Music Direct this morning. He was ready to change out my 706 S2 order for 2 pairs of Metas, he agreed that I should try them and said that I can return them within 60 days. But once he realized that they were for both HT and music, and that I needed a center as well, he recommended that I stick with the 706s. He said that although he loves the Metas, driving 4 of them is tough, and that the lack of a center channel will cause unnecessary hassle when trying to find a single meta, or a kef center that is voiced matched with the LS50 Metas. Really am happy with the 606’s so if the 706’s are even better, then I can’t even imagine! From researching online, most reviews that compare the 706 S2s with the LS50 metas end up preferring the 706s.(Tharbamar, Forbes, stevinghuffphoto, etc) so we shall see. Was able to get a sweet deal on the 707 S2s as well to use as rears, highly recommend checking out Music Direct. Never heard of them until last week but the have great customer service! Anyway, great review! It was so good that it almost made me cancel the speakers I had on order to get the LS50 Metas... almost! 😁

I have heard the LS50 sound best with high-current amplifiers (able to comfortably drive 2-ohm loads). Can I get a reply from someone who knows what amplifiers best mate with this KEF LS50 speaker?

I used it with a number of amps and they sounded great. I dont think you need any particular amp for these to do what they do.

I have an ordinary 50W per channel onto 8 ohms amp, sounds great. They probably don’t draw more than 5W at comfortable volumes.

I really wanted to like these and buy them ,but on comparing them with bowers and Wilkins 707 S3 wich cost a third more I couldn't buy them I did want to as they look so good and are really hyped on KZfaq with discount I paid £200 more for B&W £1100 instead of £900 I don't have special hearing but get these two in a room there's no contest

@@sukruyildizel422 I was drooling at the idea, it's that good. it's not necessarily the loudest thing out there however the sound is absolutely amazing. The soundstage is even wider and gives a vertical aspect after adding the sub.

When assessing the price, don't forget about inflation. $1500 today is less money than $1500 when the LS50 were first introduced.

They are not the same money as the original LS50. They was £800 the meta’s are £1000.

If you listen to the 3001SEs at high volumes you'll realize it's just the 12 gen driver. The 3001SEs had the sealed suspension gasket between the tweeter and the woofer too which made a hell of a difference. That alone plus the revoicing is all you hear that's different and the sound is less significant than the original which was meant to sound like a modern incarnation of the ls3 5as. The LS50 metas are just kinda ls50 knock offs with 12 gen drivers due to their not manufacturing the original drivers anymore.
