Wow James! It was 8 years ago and I was five years old when I first saw your your KZfaq channel doing a review on those mth crossing gates which got me into model railroading! My dad built me a o scale layout in 2012 and I dismantled it in 2018 to start my own layout in ho scale. Now I do n scale but I am thinking of doing ho scale after my failed attempt. Thank you for doing these reviews and making the 13 year old model railroader I am! Cool review!

I love Walters dcc sound locos, they perform very well, extremely affordable, great pulling power and slow speed step movement. The cons the sound tend to lack in the horn departments, and of course the detail is good enough for a engine in a consist but not your star loco.

KCS was what line was in my area growing up. My parents were friends with a man that was a conductor. As a kid I took apart and painted up and engine to look like this and painted a caboose silver. I'm glad they started producing this line. Not a big fan of the new KCS color scheme but love the older white. Thanks for showing this one I'll have to look into it for sure.

Wow, nice. Love those number boards!! And the class lights look like they're clear so they'probably lightable. The stiffness is probably just 'cause it's new. The drivetrain is the switch to helical gearing which removes all the slop and triples the torque.

I'll tell you what James, it's a nice-looking model. The one thing that bugs me on this model is something that athearn started doing with the first SD40 - 2. The inner traction motor, no one seems to model this except for either athearn and scaletrains.com. it's not very hard to represent on the model, it just has a empty look. That's why there's a curve in the side frame to hold the inboard traction motor cuz they are all wired in series and point it in the same direction. It's just a funny look. Even in N scale Kato model this on their SD40 - 2 and anything else that has the HTC truck. I know this is a budget model and is going to be devoid of certain details but this is one detail that should not be omitted. Other than that it's a nice-looking model and if I were in HO scale I would definitely like to buy it, but if a Athearn has a comprable model, I would go with the Athearn model as their HTC truck is correctly modeled with the inboard traction motor showing. Anyway good video and I hope you find a new home soon and safe travels and keep the videos coming when you can.

Great review! I'm sure it just needs a small break in period. I have a Walthers Proto EMD SW1200 (came with LokSound 5 micro) that needed a short break in period and now it is an amazing runner. I would make sure the wheels are clean on the model you show in the video. I've had to clean a few locomotives right out of the box. The wheels were pretty dirty.

If they brought back the old P2K shells for this, it should have some pretty crisp details, short of see through grills. Add a detail kit and it'll look very nice, I bet.
