I flew with China Southern in 2016 from Sydney to Quanzhou, then across to western China (Urumqi ), and then to Jinan, back to Quanzhou, and back to Sydney. I could not fault anything, it was very pleasant. Thanks again for what you are doing, its appreciated.

Flown Hainan several times. Really enjoy them. Agree that the food is excellent (found it much better than Korean Air) and for the most part crew is excellent. Just had one disappointing experience with a crew member but I think this particular FA was training. My only complaint is the cabin temperature is always too warm. I started to carry a small fan to keep air moving with no air nozzle in business class. They also give great elite status bonuses to Alaska mileage program.

Great comprehensive review! I’m curious as to which airlines offer a stopover option or complimentary hotel, e.g. China Eastern. I flew to Tokyo from JFK via PVG, and because of the second leg’s late departure on the following day, I got to see Shanghai and a hotel for several hours. Would be nice to know if that’s fairly standardised or specific to certain airlines/hubs.

Personally had a really bad experience flying with China Southern, cabin crew were not friendly to customers, almost made me never wanted to fly with any of the airlines in China again. Always wanted to try Hainan Airlines' product though. Anyway, after your review I would probably try China Southern again and see if they have improvement. Thanks Josh, love your videos

Ur so on point about the inconsistency of China eastern airlines. For my travel from Sydney to China I’ve take China eastern previously to Shanghai, but then Hangzhou (that’s where I live, and they finally added the flight) and there’s only one time where I’ve had that luxury looking 777 experience, and all the rest I’ve been on the old planes, some have 222 configuration (the very old one) and nowadays the old looking 1-2-1. I just hope they can soon update everything to the same standard as the 777 ones or 787, or A350 soon

Tips: you could check the informations about the aircraft that serve for that flight before you book, and also the seat configuration. Btw, China Eastern’s food is really really weird and small portion. I flew their business class from Guangzhou to PVG, and the food......I got three bites of rice and a tiny cup of soup for entree and one cold roll for appetizer. I have no idea how could this be business class’s meal for dinner.

I have heard that once the doors close on China Southern flights, passengers from economy move up and fill up the empty seats. FA do not send them back. Have you heard of this before?

I often fly with China Eastern Airlines in the recent years and always had good experiences. Staff was helpful, kind, motivated and funny (maybe because I speak Chinese?), you can take two suitcases with you on international flights, great IFE (+free, unlimited Wifi) and their new economy class (not only on the 77Ws, but also on the A330s, newer A320s and B737s) is fantastic. However, as you said, not all aircrafts do have the same standard, so I always try to find out before booking which one the best is. Formerly (around 2009), I tried to avoid China Eastern Airlines because their bad service. In my opinion, they’ve improved a lot since then, so whenever I fly to China (from Europe) or have a domestic flight in China now, China Eastern is my first option.

Flown with Air China, against the price I paid I can never complain. Flying with China Southern next Thursday, flight has been rescheduled and then cancelled within the last two weeks. Fingers crossed the flights are good. Looking to fly Shenzhen Airlines in September, have you ever flown with them? I do wonder what there long haul product is like. P.S awesome video

I don't know where you shot the hainan's airline lounge, but I think to make it fair you should compare the lounge with the one at PVG (Main hub for China Eastern) as you did with china northern and guangzhou

I've never tried any of these three airlines, despite I'm a Chinese person. I've only flown with Air China and Air Canada, and I consider their services to be quite average, sometimes even below average. Your video makes me wanna try Hainan and China Southern, and see for myself the beauty of Southern China.

True and thanks for the reply. Xiamen Air founded rpund 1978 and President Xi Ji Ping still shows interest as he was Deputy Mayor of Xiamen and helped found it. MF tech crew learn to fly straight to Boeing affiliates and 787 tech crews young but experienced 737 Hainan employs many expats from Europe for 737 captains (ex Malev /Wizz air)

The main reason why the China Eastern lounge in Beijing is so disappointing is that that lounge is not China Eastern's main lounge; I have been to their main lounge in Shanghai Pudong airport, and it easily compares to the other lounges in the list

MU sometimes offers amazing prices like…RMB 3500 round trip from Wuhan to New York via Shanghai plus free WiFi. Though I am also unsatisfied with their service, the price is really vital to a poor student like me lol.

After living in Dalian many years and commuting to Australia I found them all pretty good and improving with CZ domestic prem Y outstanding and VIP services for Elite very good at DLC when they know you and amazing non stops ontime 25 in a row to Shenzhen and avoid SHA. Xiamen very safe and underrated and great service and not many westerners and seem to want to impress

Da ich selbst fast ausschließlich nach Afrika fliege und ich auch schon viele Erfahrungen mit der Business Class afrikanischer Airlines gemacht habe, würde mich mal ein solcher Vergleich bei afrikanischen Fluggesellschaften interessieren. Da gibt es nämlich auch ganz ganz krasse Unterschiede. Meine schlimmsten Erfahrungen habe ich bisher in der Business Class mit Air Namibia gemacht...

I like hainan airline , but being a chinese I see a lots of improvement of china southern, new modern economy class... also china southern are rank 14 in skyward that was lots of improvement..

Hainan is the only totally private one I guess😊. And for the lounge, well it could be a very different story if you depart from some very very small airports...the only thing you could do there is taking a cup of cola and hanging around with you phone😢

What is the best asia airlines you ever flown?

I would rate China Southern least. I flew them domestic and international in economy and business class and was mostly shoked about the english skills of the staff - especially on the ground.

I think Hainan is the best from experience but I am willing to give China Southern another chance after watching this video. I have not flown with them in a while.

ps CZ elite get confirmed upgrade out of Sydney which is good as baggage allowance very good but going through CAN better for this and not Xiamen

I think when it goes to 11:26, you put the wrong pic. You said it's Hainan Airlines, but the pic is China southern. But the review is comprehensive. Most of Chinese people think Hainan Airlines are the best airlines in China as well.

Never flown Hainan will have to travel with them sometime. Flown China Eastern in Economy...not a Great experience...flew china Southern In Economy last year great service

Chinese Airline isn't terrible per say... I would say its middle of the road experience if you fly economy. My main complaint and why I would avoid any China airline is the majority of the passenger are Chinese, for better or for worst.

I economy, I'd prefer China southern, its because not only the newer seats on A330, tge service is really promising, on my last flights, to new york from Kota Kinabalu via guangzhou, the flight guangzhou to new york(boeing 777) is absolutely amazing, 3 hot meals(really satisfied by myself), and they do provide amenity kits (seriously is it a 4 star airlines???), the ife seems to be decent but the content seems not to be defeated by Hainan,i do not speak Chinese, although the crew do not speak English fluently but they are very helpful, they tried to let me understand all the things they said, it's one of the best flight I ever been on. Let's say why I prefer china southern more than hainan,I've been on hainan from beijing to Toronto once, hainan seems very promising too, their cabin crew is absolutely gorgeous, they can speak English fluently and very helpful, I admit hainan have better crew, they even serve hot towel before every meal, provide menu even in economy class, the ife content seems pretty much the same with China southern airlines, and last but not least they provide amenity kits also. Overall, in my opinion, China southern economy seat product is slightly better than hainan, Hainan have better services, the legroom and seat width or both airlines seems the same, the food quantity on China southern is slightly better than hainan also. No hurt feelings, but I'll choose China southern airlines, I love hainan airlines too, its one of my top 20 airlines 😊
