I like it to. On my Mercedes even independent shop quoted $650 for transmission service. I got gallon of Valvoline Maxlife on sale for 1/50 of that price- sucked out 3 liters of fluid- put 3 liters back in and I can do it every year for 50 years for that money.

For those looking to get a mytivac, get the pneumatic one. Getting the oil out with a mytivac with the manual takes way too long.

After watching multiple videos tonight on fluid extractors, I may have to buy this. Reason being, the dealership was the last one to do my oil change on my Impreza and when I got under the car to do my own oil change last month, the oil pan bolt was completely rounded off. Every bolt extractor tool I used was unsuccessful. So, it's either take it to a shop and spend $80-100 per oil change again or invest in one of these and do my own.

I recently got an idea of getting a similar extractor and here is an idea why. I change oil every 3k miles which is almost 50% early according to maintenance minder on my Acura. I was thinking that at 3k miles, I could just extract the oil, leave the filter as it is 10k or more rated, add new oil and drive until car tells me. Then I would do a full oil change with filter and so on. The total the car would be with the same oil filter is no more than 6k miles. The issue is that I rent a lift at the moment and would be paying the garage every 3k miles when I change oil.

Mercedes oil change: Change oil filter from above use MANN HU 718/5x- suck out 8 liters of old oil- put 8 liters of Mobil 1 0W40 back in- you are good for a year/10k. Less time that takes a drive to dealer- no chance for them to sell you unnecessary part replacements. If it aint broken- do not fix it. Suddenly Merc is very reliable when they have no chance to mess with it.

Thank you for watching I appreciate it! No I don't do any maintenance on it and I truthfully just use it to extract. Because it's home use I'm not using it more than a handful of times a year at most. But I have just been wiping it out the best I can and sometimes what I do is use Dawn soap to flush it out.

Agreed but it depends on your usage. I don't run a shop so it's not something you're using constantly. Just that most a few times a year and likely then it's not even yearly. I've rinsed it out with Dawn dish soap and water. All mines ever seen is transmission fluid, gear oil, and brake fluid and that's it.

I will have had it 4 years this fall. Hard to say how many times I've used it, but I've swapped multiple fluid changes on my vehicles with it. And I have used it to transfer oil out of my drain pan and into the containers for disposal. I would say enough use over these 4 years to know it's a quality piece. But like anything, when you don't run a shop and are a DIY on your own vehicles, you're obviously not going to be using it every day or even for months at a time.

I see in this video you place the tube down your mustangs dipstick shaft. I have tried that and the tube does not go all the down into the oil pan, it stops about 4 inches from the bottom. Am I missing something here? How did you get the tube into the oil pan of your mustang?
@3VJohnny
@3VJohnny 5 ай бұрын
I have not used it for removing oil, that hasn't worked for me either. The clip you saw was probably the transmission fluid from my F150. For whatever reason, the oil dip stick tube on both my vehicles doesn't allow me to suck the oil.

Great video! One question, so let’s say you’re trying to remove excess oil from your car‘s engine. You insert the small hose down the dipstick and when you need it to stop you just press the lever from extracts to dispense? And that stops the sucking action from the oil pan? I probably don’t need to remove very much and I really don’t want to remove more oil than necessary. 👍👍
@3VJohnny
@3VJohnny 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Tony! Yes it will stop but it's slightly delayed as it takes a moment for the suction to stop. When you press the button, you could start to pull up the hose so it's so longer in the pan. Even if you took more than you wanted out, you can always put it back in after to get the correct level.

Thanks for this video. I do have one concern with this extractor concept though: how do you avoid contaminating fluids? For example if you had engine oil in the line and you tried to pump in brake fluid into the cylinder next, the brake fluid is contaminated. Even if you are recycling say engine oil, if it's mixed with say coolant it's not usable any longer. I was thinking perhaps you could have dedicated tubing for each fluid or run some kind of cleaner through the lines. Does the manual give any insight into this?
@3VJohnny
@3VJohnny 10 ай бұрын
Yeah that's a good point. I just use mine for extraction and the times I use it I try to clean it out with the Dawn dish soap and rinse it out. I also put the soapy water in a container and suck it up that way to try to get some of the stuff out of the hose. You can probably see if you could get another hose for it but I'm not sure if they're available. You might be able to find the manual online to see what they state. If you make the effort to clean it, I'm not sure how bad contamination would be honestly.

No I do not clean mine out like that. I just use mine for extraction. If you read on it, some of the manufacturers of these, and I think Mity-Vac as well, does not recommend the use of any solvents. I have run dawn dish soap through my every so often. That's it

I have honestly mostly just wiped it out. I've run soap and water through it before to clean it if it will be sitting for a while. However, I usually just use it to extract fluids rather than fill, so I'm not as concerned on contamination or anything.

@@3VJohnny Thanks! I bought it for a trans and differential oil change. For the trans, I need to pump oil in. For the diff, I need to extract and then pump oil in. I’ve read that the best cleaner, or final rinse, is alcohol, because it will evaporate.

If you do a little reading on it some guys use different things. I've given mine a quick rinse out with Dawn dish soap and some water running through it to clean it up a little bit. You just got to make sure you use something that doesn't damage the plastic. The main tube comes off you just have to push in the blue retainer and then pull the hose out.

@@3VJohnny Roger that, I was thinking of just draining as well. But I wanted to use it for multiple fluids. Brake, trans and oil. Guess ill have to clean the hose and the container well beforehand. I saw them sell replacement hoses on amazon but it's $45 I may just go to home Depot and find something similar for less. One hose for each fluid. Thanks for the heads up Johnny!
