Tool review! - Mityvac MV7201 fluid extractor plus. I review the Mityvac by doing an oil and filter change on my 2012 VW Golf 2.0 TDI GT BMT. This DIY tool is affordable too, a must have for the home mechanic.

Good video. Thanks. One tip: clean the crud away from the oil filler hole before removing the cap: that way it won't fall into your nice clean engine!

I was waiting for the oil to go on the patio when you poured it out 😫 You’re bang on though, definitely looks like it could do with a cap for when you’ve taken the pipe out of the dip stick tube. Great vid as always!

I also have a Volkswagen and the clearance is low. I do a combo of a pump extractor and drain the remainder. I drive the car onto 2x6 wood ramps to start (I get an additional 1.5 inches of clearance). The pump extractor removes most of the oil. Then I drain the rest. You have to do both to get a reasonable amount of oil out (I would not use the extractor alone).

Used to change oil and filter every 10K. Now I have a BMW 335D (Diesel) with the N57 6 cylinder I replace the oil and filter every 7k. I also use Castrol Edge 5W-30 LongLife (LL04) in my car and find this gives the best performance overall.

Hi. I am a fully qualified mechanic. I personally would recomend changing engine oil and filter every 6000 to 7000 miles or once a year. Long drain engine oils are a NO NO These oils are fine if you are doing high mileage each week where there is minimal carbon deposited into the engine oil due to less strain and the engine being driven at a constant temperature for long periods of driving, however,...... Vehicles driven on short journeys stopping and starting over a long period of time whilst the long drain engine oil is being used is not good for the longevity of the engine.

You should pull the oil filter first so whatever is in there drains in to the sump. Intervals are 5000 for me or twice a year. Mobil 1 ESP. Always change the fuel filter every 10k on a TDI. Your injectors will thank you with 5-10 more mpg as they age.

Plug the hose ends into each other to form a hoop. The remaining oil won’t leak if you store it with the rubber plug at the top. 😎

Certainly appeared to make a cleaner job of doing an oil change. It would be beneficial if they supplied spare hoses so you could have a different hose for each different fluid removal. Seems a good product an as usual a good demonstration by yourself.

Ever seen a C63 used as a toolbox before? 😂 What’s your optimum oil change interval?

These work better on my Mercedes E Class W211 then sump plug removal. The reason is the sump drain is about 1/4 inch high, this sucks all the oil out. I then put a bit of new oil in and suck that out, its always as clean as a whistle.

Less oil will go on the patio if you turn the oil jug sideways (less gurgle). Also, you can install a cutoff lever between the large and small hoses, which will not only seal the oil leak problem with small hose clamps, but will allow you to stop further oil flow without adding the "stopper" you mentioned. I use a similar unit made by OEM Tools, but almost identical. I have pulled the oil plug when finished and found that I get 99.99% of the oil out of my Audi Prestige, so the only reason to pull the plug is if you are concerned about removing metal particles from engine wear or your oil filter is under the car anyway. I would suggest you loosen the oil filter before evacuating the oil. This allows some air flow into the system (less suction) and makes the whole process a lot quicker. Make sure your oil is not too hot or you will ruin gaskets, etc. You can check engine oil temp by using the tube, put finger over the end and squirt into a cup. Let the engine cool if it is over 150F. Clean up is easy if you run degreaser or just Dial soap and water through the lines a couple times. Just flush with water and air out when done. People that have problems with these is usually because they don't do the cleanup after they use it. This, of course, increases the overall time required to make an oil change. If the oil filter is on the bottom of the car, you might find things go faster if you just pull the plug while you are down there. You might get more oil on the patio, however. Hope that helps.

@@CarThought yes for me,i know some will disagree but i tend to do a lot of short trips mainly to work and back and give it a longer run out at the weekend...if more often than not you are doing longer drives and the engine can warm up properly then yes extend the time before an oil change to the once a year...i just feel im keeping it tip top the way i do mine

@@CarThought for me any diesel with timing chain get serviced every 6k, if it has a cambelt 10k is fine but nothing more then that. Some two stroke mineral oil in the fuel once in a while and diesels run forever.

Castrol edge is not the best it's well advertised 😉 and the easiest way to clean the pipes is to hold the end build up vacuum and then spray some brake cleaner in to it
