I could not agree more I have said more recently that if they adjust rules for future seasons what is the point of making adjustment to rules if they don”t call them. At this point the league has to address in my opinion a favorable outcome with officials and it’s wrong for all teams in this league.

Nobody knows for sure but to me that wasn't it as Coyle stopped short of hitting Swayman but Sway's stick took Coyle's leg out causing him to fall on him by which time the puck was already in the net anyways so there was little chance of a save anyways.

For what it’s worth I am a cats fan. I was worried the goal would be waived off, but not because the push was ergregious. I figured the refs HAD to overturn because the discourse on officiating hd gone so sour this series that they had to make the reversal or risk the behavior between both sides get out of hand. Let's face it, apart from Pasta and Swayman there is no other game-breaking player on the current Bs roster (with Marchand out). This team very much overachieved in the regular season, but in the play-offs the holes left by the departures of key players glaringly show, the team has neither a top centerman nor secondary scoring. @@kingghidorah6200 Ekblad has that fucked-up shoulder of his. He gave up his body quite a lot for the Panthers all these years. I get it that even as a defenseman, he's not risking an injury so he can stay on the roster, but one thing I have no excuse for is how slow he looks on the ice. There's a difference between playing slowly because you're big and chunky like Okposo, playing slowly because you're old, and playing slowly because you simply cannot compete with the opponents' forwards anymore. That and giving HUGE turnovers that have costed the Panthers quite a lot of games during the regular season and Game 1 of the Boston series. If he could focus on controlling those giveaways and trying to be a little more faster, he would be fine. Also, I believe he has another year with the Panthers. I don't think he's going away, given how much Paul Maurice loves him, and I really don't think we can fleece any organization, even the Sens, into taking Ekblad. It would free up a lot of cap space though.

Bennett goal is hard to judge, it was interference, but Swayman was never reaching that puck regardless, so I agree with SN analysts and Shannon on this one. According to the rulebook, it is definitely not GI. A cross-checking penalty has to be called in that situation for the goal to be disallowed according to the rulebook. I gotta say. While Boston was competitive this year I think we as Bruins fans can agree they overachieved. I had little faith in them against Florida(just glad they beat Toronto). Florida has too many weapons and Boston's offense just isn't there. We can talk about McAvoy's play in this series and the playoffs in general. I'm not blaming anyone I think this team just doesn't have enough to get it done this year. Swayman can have a crazy SV% but with 40 shots allowed its tough to keep pucks out every night. I think next year Boston has a chance to really retool and stay competitive. Lots of young guys in the bottom six and plenty of cheap 1 year deals expiring(JVR and Shattenkirk) I think if they can go out and get a true number 1 center they can bounce back next year. Panthers fan here. Ngl, Swayman is the only thing saving the Bruins right now. Any other goalie (yes, I am including Ullmark, that's why he dropped to the secondary role) would have let in at least 6-8 goals regularly with this insane strength that the Panthers have. The Panthers this year are even better than last year's, and like Shannon once said, "the Panthers are on a mission right now". People are saying how the Rangers would easily sweep the Panthers, but I believe that's more of Boston fans/Panthers haters coping mechanisms kicking in. Yes, the Rangers are playing very well, and I do have my questions with Bobrovsky a bit, despite still thinking he's a great goalie. The Panthers have won twice in the regular season against the Rangers, and even though Shannon says "regular season means nothing in the playoffs" (and the Bruins' season sweep on the Panthers is literally here to prove), I cannot see Florida being swept by the Rangers. Getting past Shesterkin will be a very big challenge, but seeing how the Panthers are getting past Swayman, I believe they can do it and probably win in 6 or 7 games.

@@choppergunner8650 Hm, I don't know about sweeping, but I don't see the Panthers beating the Rangers unless Bobrovsky gets it together. Check his stats, he's sub .900 save percentage right now. It's just not so obvious because the Bruins can't seem to manage more than 20 shots a game. The Rangers will not have that problem, and while Shesterkin is not quite as hot as Swayman right now, he has been the most consistent playoff goaltender of the past three years. Last night was the first time he allowed more than three goals in more than 20 playoff games. That's insane.
@choppergunner8650
@choppergunner8650 16 күн бұрын
@@Cableguy15 Bobrovsky is fine IMO. The only reason he's sub .900 right now is because he's not facing a lot of shots. Game 4 vs. Tampa and Game 1 vs. Boston did hurt his Sv%, but how do you expect his Sv% to increase when the team keeps holding off the opponents? 😂 I do think he's still fine as it is. If anything, we can rely on Stolarz, who has been probably the best backup goalie in the entire season, although I do have questions about him, seeing as he didn't see any games up to this point, and I don't expect Maurice to start him over Bobrovsky in Game 5. As a side note, I suffer from the same problem in NHL games, where my Be A Pro character is a goalie. I am a sub .900 goaltender with ~2.50 GAA, because I don't see a lot of shots. It's very rare for me to see over 25 shots a game. I do have 2 cups with the Panthers though.

@5:09 Monty made a great point after the game that it wasn't just that Swayman could not move because Coyle was shoved into him, it was also that the cross check on Coyle took him out of the play as well. He certainly could've played that puck, kicked it, blocked Bennett's stick, tipped it, gotten his body in the way, boxed out Bennett. That's also not taking into account if Bennett would've shot it differently if Swayman was coming back or he had to work around Coyle's defense. He wouldn't be the first player to whiff on an easy goal if there was pressure on his shot attempt. And from there Swayman could've gotten bailed out or make a desperation save. So it's not fair to say that Swayman had no chance and that's why it's not goaltender interference. Swayman didn't have a chance because of the hit on Coyle into him. Looking at how wide open Bennett's shot was is directly because of what he did, not the other way around. It's a crazy call from the league to basically say that as soon as that puck went towards Bennett he was 100% scoring it and nothing else matters from there. At that point, why don't they just call goal as soon as someone takes a shot in close at an empty net? It's always going in right?

I love the Bruins. This was a hard game to stomach. That being said, I think the B's played above their ceiling all season. The loss of Bergeron and Krejci cannot be overstated in terms of their decision-making and ESPECIALLY their face-off skills. The Bruins feel very much like they are in a transitionary period and they don't have an identity outside of Pasta, Swayman, and McAvoy. They can't decide if they're physical or finesse, can't decide if they're offense or defense. They play well enough together, but the team doesn't feel as tight as it did in previous campaigns. While I think this was a winnable game, I didn't go into this series thinking they had a chance.

Not that I claim to know what "goalie interference" is, because I believe there is a big dartboard in Toronto, but this is what I saw: Coyle standing in the blue, looking for the puck when Bennett cross-checked him. Coyle was facing away from the play (puck was behind him), and he was between the puck and the goalie while standing up. To me, it doesn't matter if he fell into the goalie, because he was already impeding him while standing. To someone who doesn't care who wins, the failure to overturn the goal call on the ice made a lot of sense to me, which makes it unique amongst NHL goalie interference challenges.

I agree that swayman (arguably) can’t make that save on a wide open shot. The issue I have is that it’s only that wide open because Coyle isn’t standing there. Not a bruins fan but I gotta ask, what is a cross check? It's gotta be the most inconsistently called penalty in sports because it seems to me like there's no rime or reason why some cross checks are penalties and some aren't. I can't help but think of Vancouver at Nashville game 6 where players were allowed to all game and then Lindholm got called for it right near the end of the game. Sure he cross checked the guy but, as someone who doesn't watch a ton of hockey outside of playoff time, it seems like they only call it when it would make the game more "interesting".

On tonight's episode of "Novody Knows What Goaltender Interference Is or Isn't" I just remember in Tampa's 2020(?) series against the Islanders, Kucherov was cross checked into crashing the netminder and was given a penalty for goaltender interference. Straight from the official NHL rulebook: If a defending player (Coyle) has been pushed, shoved, or fouled by an attacking player (Bennett) so as to cause the defending player (Coyle) to come into contact with his own goalkeeper(Swayman), such contact shall be deemed contact initiated by the attacking player(Bennett) for purposes of this rule, and if necessary a penalty assessed to the attacking player (Bennet) and if a goal is scored it would be disallowed. Not only does a player who should be suspended score the goal, the goal should've been wiped and boston to the powerplay. If we're going to have rules, enforce them. The Florida Power play goal was huge, yet not the reason to losing the game. The Bruins just won't put shots on goal, even pushing the puck deep and make the Panthers work out of their own end. They let the Panthers create turn overs and even takeaways, that was the main reason the Bruins were pinned in their own zone and playing not to lose and catch up. this game reminded me a lot of Game 7 against the Flyers when they came back from 0-3 in the series and down 3-0 in the game. You could sense that the Flyers weren't out of it and slowly kept creeping back into the game until they won it.

Let's not forget that Flordia was in the same position last year. No garentees in playoff hockey. Shots don't mean anything, the Bruins haven't been a high shooting team all year. Quality over quantity. As you said, Boston had 5 shots and 2 goals after the first period. I thought Flordia was average up until the Bennett goal. That took the wind out of the Bruins sails. We will never know the outcome of that game. Refs missed the cross check, and Toronto 🤔 generous said no goaltender interference. We all knew it was going to be a scrap, but right now it feels like the B's are playing two teams, Panthers (who are already a tough team) and the refs.
