Buyer beware. Harbor Freight apparently has a Planned Obsolescence policy on its Zurich scanners. For example, the ZR13 scanner was discontinued not too long alog and the company will not provide any software updates. I bought the scanner in 2018 but it is now useless for many cars 2020 forward. You will probably want to go with a company that supports their equipment even after they replace the old model with a "new" one.

Thanks, I've been considering returning my ZR15 unopened. It just my gut feeling about it. And I believe the only tools HF sells that can be reliable are solid metal with no moving parts. Now those can be good cheap buys. Worth noting that all tech tools eventually become close to useless unless you're fixing a really old car.

@@Mn09lfV6fI’m pretty sure these are rebranded innova 5610rs since they use the same “repair solutions 2” app. Someone in their reviews said they were struggling updating the software through hf but had none when going through innova. Thinking about getting this one when I sell my current scanner.

a rebadged Innova, even the Zurich manual says Innova in many parts, I guess they forgot to edit it out. Innova is cheaper and the support is lifelong, so long as Innova doesn't fold. Great review! You demo'd more functions than most reviews of this scanner very well, I had to buy one to find out all that it really could do that reviews didn't show, but yours does. The Zurich is nicer in that it has a case I've never seen offered with Innova.

As i commented below, this is made by Innova (it's the 5160RS) and the Innova doesn't include the protector surround for the unit and must've been something Harbor Freight wanted to be part of theirs, which answers your question regarding why the have a screw on battery cover.

The reasons for screws on battery covers is because the plastic clip style always broke, so the batteries don’t fall out and possibly leak or short out if they come in contact with metal, and the most important reason is to keep batteries away from children.. small children put everything in their mouths and there are a lot of cases of children swallowing batteries

me too. i like mine as well. the zr15s. along with my Daytona 4 ton and icon digital torque wrench. these three items are my favorite homework to do!

At work we use the snap on solus I don't know how I ever did repairs without the extra functions on these types of tools I found this one and saved a lot of $ and so far I can tell you this model does most of the important tests resets monitors and is lighter faster and doesn't need to be charged constantly or connection to wifi while getting the important functions done. Great value and surprised how much it can do still learning more each use if course no one tool can do everything with every make and model but is totally pound for pound a better bang for your buck!

Great vid and thank you for sharing. If you work on a car with CVT issues such as a bad valve body, will the tool lead you to the specific bad synchro within the valve body? Some car’s bad valve body faults can be determined at the connector via ohm test if the connector is outside the tranny, but most cars have the connector inside the tranny. This is where a good scanner comes in. Just curious what this unit can do. 🙏

I did not get the scanner, if I did it would’ve been for personal use. I was able to figure out the problem. 2012 Subaru Legacy with a slipping 4th gear at low rev. I pulled the valve body and used my ohm meter to test each shift solenoid. 4th gear solenoid was bad. Purchase the shift solenoid on Amazon for $100, installed, put the valve body back in, added new Subaru tranny fluid. No problems!

This is a innova 5610 clone. It has more bits( case , usb cord) and costs less considering what you get with it. Innova 5610 comes with no case, no usb, no paper manual ( online download). Innova offers unlimited updates for the 5610, so I assume the zr15s does as well.

Innova is better with support. But both products are Chinese and buttons and burn out after a few months

I'm unfamiliar with any kind of scanning tool. Does this tool relearn and clear TPMS or passenger side air bag lights? I'm trying to save some money and prevent myself from taking my car to the dealership.

Hey Solid Snake! I have used this to do a Crank Relearn on chevys in the past! And it worked out well, I have not tested this feature on a bunch of vehicles.

I'm a old school shade tree mechanic, and I did not have a pre-buy diagnostic test done on the last two vehicles I bought. Needless to say, I got burned buying lemons. My question is, would you recommend this tool for doing a pre-buy diagnostic test on vehicle's that I would like to buy in order to avoid costly repair & being burned by a shady dealer?

I got the 13s it was about 180 and does everything that 15 does aside from like 3 things and the 15 was like 300, I'm a shade tree too, starting my business up as I post this, the 13s for me so far has been plenty to start with

Yes. Older cars don't always have all of the sensors that newer vehicles have however.

This is identical to the Innova 5160RS. Apparently they make them for HF, but I like that Harbor Freight has included a manual, a protector and carrying case...Innova does not have any of these. I didn't even realize that my 5160RS utilized batteries and had an LED light until I saw your video just now, I was sitting here saying "that sucks, I should've bought the Zurich" and then flipped mine over and saw the battery cover. Still, with a full paper manual, protector for the unit and carrying case, the Zurich is a nice deal and since Innova makes good quality scanners (and other electronic tools), the Zurich sounds like a winner. I still kind of wish I would've bought the Zurich but too late now.

Seems like a pretty cool little tool. Via the link you provided I learned that is available at my local HF. I have a $50 Top Don but the 15s seems to have a bit bigger screen. Have you any experience with Forscan? Thanks for the video!!!

Haha this video actually wasn’t supposed to go live today! It’s the first draft! I have a bunch of Topdon scan tools. I just purchased 5 more Phoenix lites! I use forscan regularly! But I much rather use my Autel and FJDS for Programing etc!

Can you use this to access the pcm (02 F350 5.4) fuel pump relay control? Need to see if the pcm is the fault for P0232, can’t get wire to switch to ground. Or do I need next step up scan tool?

I am not sure that this scan tool has that ability to command the fuel pump. There is a fuel pump driver module located near the spare tire (Need to lower that down) and most of that time that is falling apart and is the part that needs replaced. Let me know how that works out for you!

Mine worked well until I went to do a park brake service mode on a Subaru and it completely screwed up and couldn’t get it out of the service mode

I have used this on a 7.3 Make sure your obd2 fuse has not popped. Do you have a chip or a tune on yours?

Haha! The unit has internal batteries, you can look that information up first if you would like or if you are having trouble finding it in the first place !

@@steveharris947 Yes if you did not know where the DLC was located, you would need to know the year make, and model of the vehicle you are about to hook up to prior. I don't really see that being a problem, because if you cant find where it is located you will have all the information you need to input in front of you :) Since the car would be right there.

It can access live data and show trans temp. I previously have used it on a jaguar to read live temp while making sure it’s properly refilled.

@@Revitauto the tool is great but it gave me code 1437 - “Communication with the air conditioner has a malfunction" I’ve researched it and I can’t anything on what it refers to. Most vehicle specific codes have a letter in front of them but this one doesn’t. It’s not in the generic code system either.

just picked this up and the tool doesn’t work. it’s been updated and doesn’t connect on multiple vehicles. I think the unit was used to be honest i’m bringing it back now

@@Revitauto I"m afraid "I'll try it today" isn"t exactly an answer. Especially now, 8 months later. Something tells me it won't, or you would have replied again. For that matter, why didn't't you just wait until after "Today" to actually answer? Strange a guy who says he has way too many diesels wouldn't know already, as it is a constant area of discussion amongst Powerstroke owners in regards to scanners.

@@5400bowen yeah this was pretty bad on my part, I also run a fleet service company full time and do the KZfaq as a hobby and to help people Certainly not helpful if I don’t keep my word. I do not remember if I did try a buzz test (I have a 7.3 and a 6.0 Powerstroke) But I can tell you if you have a laptop and are really looking for ford coverage this is the best bang for your buck forscan.org/home.html Has a massive ford support site!

Review of review video- F. This video provides little to no new information. Read the label and you'll get more information. Too much time (too slow delivery), no script or preplanning apparent resulting in omission of critical information (as proven by the long list of view questions posted). When reviewing you should focus on feature that are NOT available on cheaper models - Like TPMS. I need to know if I can program TMPS sensors and exactly what the tool can do. I had to read through lots of questions to get an answer. We don't need to see the tool work and every button push done. He focuses on features that are disclosed in label and takes too much time. Speaking of time I've wasted enough on this. I could really rip this if I was getting paid to review.

I was reviewing the features that it can do, focusing on what it can’t do is something I’ll include for future videos. My thought process before on featuring what it can’t be used for would be like buying a sports car and say now it can’t rip it in the 4x4 section but handles great on the road. I stay active in the comments section to help other people make a decision on if this tool is the right one for them or not. Make it a great day!

@@Revitauto For a video like this, none would be preferable. Even for people who might like that kind of music (I assume their existence is a possibility), it's only a distraction. For nearly everyone else in the galaxy, it is grating and makes them want to look elsewhere for the same info. I only stuck around long enough to complain, myself.
