Being able to uniquely map each direction of the stick zone solves a problem I've had with Steam Input for YEARS.

This is really useful as I like to put a flick stick layer on my left stick button when i sprint as it's only used when moving forward and flick stick is only used when turning. So I can instant 180 without losing a button

It's a great feature for sure. I used it for the 2nd Street Fighter 6 closed beta so I could run when pushing the stick to the edge. So much better than having to press a separate button to run. And I could still walk and jog by pushing the stick various amounts.

Having the edge binding for sprint is really cool But sometimes it does get a little annoying For example you're trying to use an item in Apex Legends and if you sprint it cancels the item (example being ultimate accelerant) There's also a few games where the way that the sprinting works is such that you don't want it on the edge binding at all like Alen Wake American Nightmare (Twilight Zone the videogame).

After a long time with both Steam input and Rewasd, I find advantages and disadvantages to both. There are things such as this video highlights that are mush easier in rewasd. There are things in steam input which are easy but not possible in rewasd.

I'm mainly focusing on reWASD lately because steam input just doesn't feel reliable to me anymore. I put up with bugs and quirks for too many years and instead of getting better it feels like it's getting worse. I really don't like the new UI and find anything beyond simple remapping to be a chore.

what would you say is better for deadzones and aim curve types? I play destiny 2 and it doesn’t seem like the Steam input is doing enough and lacks variety.

Can you do up, up/left, and up/right? Many games let you sprint up to the diagonals. But I’ve had some games behave weirdly if you press the sprint button while moving just left/right.

You can change the Zone shape from Radial to Elliptic. That might let you catch the diagonals in the Zone binding. I haven't tried that out in detail yet. There's also an 8 Way Digital option for the whole stick which would let you bind diagonals but then you're not going to have the analog range.

@@RambleCan That 8 way works well, and to be honest it's very rare that people ever use anything except full throw on the movement stick anyway so not really much of a loss by not having full analog.

I've been using other controllers for awhile now. I got frustrated with steam input and started using ReWasd. The steam controller was discontinued more than 3 years ago. It felt like it was time to move on.

I have a Steam Deck but it isn't something that I've made videos on. I really don't enjoy using the new steam input UI so I'm not really making detailed configs in steam input anymore.

Massive problem with rewasd is that you can't set the thumbstick deadzones to a square, which is how it works in the controllers they're trying to emulate. They're forcing it to be a circle. Problem is, games are typically made for xbox or PS controllers and not rewasd, so it's impossible to reach 100% x and 100% y-axis output with rewasd. It's terrible. You can never have full control with it in any game. Don't buy.

@@RambleCan It's most obvious in any game involving flying, where you can't do 100% roll and 100% pitch at the same time. Or rocket league. Typically in games where you control a character it's less obvious, because you can't move at max speed when moving diagonally anyway.
