This is spot on. The compass thing pissed me off the most. Hector being the main villain and recruiting Jack would be perfect. Also having Angelica instead of that astronomer Carina works. Well done. Also, we never saw Davy Jones die. Maybe Calypso, as changing as the sea, put him in his own purgatory/Locker. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤔

My rewrite of Pirates of the Caribbean 5: The film is set in 1751 a year after On Stranger Tides and Jack Sparrow need to make face against his old enemy Captain Salazar that escape from the Davy Jones's Locker. Jack need to set seil and make an alliance again with Barbossa and Will Turner for find the Trident of Poseidon for becoming the King's pirate.

My main issue with this film is just the perspective shift on who Jack is as a figure. Whereas once he was known as a cunning and extremely calculated scoundrel, impossible of being outsmarted out of even the most dire situations, here he's simply portrayed as a drunk along for the ride. When archetypes are pushed aside for quick comedy as is seen now with wildly short attention spans even in films, it would seem tone and character traits are unclear at best, in fear of being generalized as "Too dark" or "edgy". One must understand their themes of a story before pen hits page in my opinion, or else the audience begins to question what the purpose of the films stands to be. I do genuinely hope that if a 6th film is produced, that we receive a faithful and honest end to Jack's story, either seeing him sacrifice himself even with the choice of selfish escape, or possibly passing on the torch to a new protagonist who doesn't feel like a cardboard copy of characters we actually like. We don't stick around for imitations of greatness, but greatness and nothing else. Great video as always man, and I hope university is going well. Regards- Redfish

@@gatsby798 Nor do I, but seeing as Studios almost never turn down free money, they may pull a Star Wars and transition into television possibly following Will and his incursions just as Star Wars did after its last few unsuccessful films. Not sure, but I reckon we'll have to see, although I'd be surprised if nothing from the property ever arises again.

The characterization of Jack Sparrow was a dealbreaker for me too. I don't know how the writers managed to forget/not care about the most basic traits of their main character, but there you go. The frustrating thing is, in an early draft of the script I'm reading, Jack's character is pretty much himself, not the dumb clown we see in the finished film. I don't know why they changed it. Interesting you mention Jack Sparrow sacrificing himself as a possible ending. There's a 100k word fan rewrite of DMTNT that tries to give Jack that character arc: instead of the bumbling fool in the movie, Jack starts off depressed and down on his luck, becomes his resourceful and cunning old self in the course of the story, before heroically sacrificing himself at the end. The prose style and execution are what you'd expect of a very young amateur writer, but overall I found the story and characterization much more satisfying than the film. Some ideas I'm unsure of (this writer make Carina Jack's daughter rather than Barbossa's) but others I like: the villain is made a more tragic and sympathetic but no less threatening character, Pintel and Ragetti return, and the annoying retcons/inconsistencies get fixed. I'm happy to pretend this is how the story ends, rather than the film we got. It's odd that more thought in terms of good storytelling and consistent characterization was put into a piece of fanfiction than into a 200 million dollar movie.

On Stranger Tides worked great as a standalone adventure in the franchise. DMTNT was trying too hard to be complex like the original trilogy. I did enjoy the colorful cinematography and set design, it felt refreshing after the darker themes of prior films.

Slight addendum to this rewrite. I think the inclusion of the return of Davy Jones in the post-credit scene is quite an interesting concept, and whilst it is left very vague for the purposes of not giving too much away for the 6th film, I'd include it in there to set up a true ending to this rewrites penultimate storyline. The concept of the Sea Widow from the previously mentioned draft is also really interesting and, if used correctly, could create an ultimate final showdown between all of the important characters. The Sea Widow, having been banished from the realm of the dead, cursed to wander the earth as a ghost by Calypso after trying to use forbidden magicks to revive her husband who was lost at Sea, has been biding her time in secret, possessing multiple different people over her time as a ghost to prepare for an opening to return to the realm of the dead and topple Calypso as the Goddess of the Sea. After the Trident of Poseidon is broken, along with all of the curses that bind it, she returns to the realm of the dead and ends up binding the soul of Davy Jones to the locket that Calypso gave him, having managed to steal it before she was banished; whilst also conducting a dark ritual to bind Calypso to a human body once more. Since the Dutchman is now without a captain since Will is no longer captain, Jones reclaims the Dutchman, under the influence of the Sea Widow, and starts to bind a crew to the Dutchman, seeing many notable figures revived from the dead and bound to the Dutchman against their will, or purposefully brought to the brink of death to convince then into pledging servitude. But with the Sea Widow's influence, it not only sees Jones revived and reclaim the Dutchman, but also sees a massive boost in mystical power that allows him to anchor destroyed ships and their crews to the living world once more as ghostly slaves, seeing notable ships and many pirates bound to this curse, including returning characters and ships from Dead Man's Chest and At World's End, including ships such as the HMS Endeavour with Lord Beckett having joined willingly to get back at Sparrow, and some new characters from ages past like Bartholomew Roberts and the Royal Fortune being unwillingly bound to servitude. After Angelica flees the Queen Anne's Revenge after Barbossa returned and nearly killed her before reclaiming the ship, she tracks down Sparrow and warns him about Hector. Haven't worked out all of the details, but I do want to include the good guys ultimately winning, returning Davy Jones back to the land of the dead, freeing the ghosts of the characters bound to the Sea Widow, and seeing the franchise end on a satisfying, but bitter-sweet note as Jack Sparrow and the Black Pearl end up lost at sea, finally ending the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise

I really like your rewrite ideas for DMTNT. I think the potential was there for a good film, but for whatever reason it didn't happen. Javier Bardem's character wasn't particularly well written or given much to do, but he was by far the best thing in the film for me. By the end I was so pained by Jack Sparrow's poor characterization that I totally wanted Salazar to win/get some redemption arc. At least that dude was interesting and motivated! I'm hyped for your take on Daniel Craig's James Bond. I loved Casino Royale and what Craig brought to the role, but I feel like the series went downhill faster than Vesper Lynd in a broken elevator. I've been pondering my own rewrite of the last four Bond movies, so I'm keen to hear your ideas.

I didn’t mind the final movie all that much. Yes, I had a lot of the same problems with it as everyone else, from Jack to the compass to the skeleton sharks to the lack of certain main characters from the previous films. I found it mindless fun to watch, though. You have to essentially treat the last two films as being a parallel universe (and it can include the Sea of Thieves since they follows the Davy Jones cliffhanger), which is a shame to do just to make the movies more tolerable for the franchise. I’m personally glad we got it, but it definitely could have been changed. Great villain designs and ship design! Terrible writing and character development. Your rewrite, on the other hand, is stupendous! I’d consider it and your OST rewrite as the canon timeline, with the last two films being an alternate timeline where Jack got his compass from a random shipmate (and him giving it to others was more so him loaning it each time).

Me and my best friend rewrote this movie a few weeks ago. In our movie , we brought back Angelica and after the events of the Battle at the Fountain of Youth, a war raged on between Spain and England. The villain was a someone like Beckett, you could say it was his replacement after his death. His goal was to take the Queen Anne's Revenge and the sword of Blackbeard. He was going to use it to eliminate both pirates and win the war with Spain. But Spain was a powerful country and he tried to stick to a show of force so that Spain was afraid to mess up with him. That didn't work though and the final battle was between England and Spain who has a deal with the pirates to ambush the villain together, with the help of the Pirate King, Elizabeth Swan .

These are pretty cool ideas :o . Making link between DMTNT and OST is a good idea and make sense. The fact that we have several character going for the trident to serve different purposes is also a great idea ^^. If you don't mind, I've written what I'd have change in this movie, it's more focus on Salazar since I believe we need a great villain to have a great movie. It has been said that it's Davy Jones who gave the Black Pearl and the title of captain to Jack. But how does one meet Davy Jones ? By dying on the sea. Jack Sparrow was a younger and less experienced version of himself when he met Salazar who was an experienced and skilled pirate hunter during his peak (he almost ripped the sea of all pirates). Salazar should have been the one to kill Jack in order to make him meet Davy Jones. I don't think it would make Jack less charismatic because... 1) Jack has never been portrayed as a strong unkillable character. 2) Young Jack is not prime Jack we see in the first movies, there is room for mistakes made by a young man. 3) Jack has already died in the past, so it's not that much of a stretch. 4) His tragic death at a young age could add up to Jack's quest for immortality. 5) I don't think there is shame in being killed by someone who was skill enough to kill almost everysingle pirates in the sea. Davy Jones would make the famous deal with Jack. Back from the dead, Jack would defeat a shocked Salazar has it happen in the movie. And this would greatly improve Salazar. 1) He's one of the vilains who managed to kill Jack, making him a more serious threat. 2) This would give Salazar a more personnal reason to kill Jack. 3) Think about the relation between Jack and Salazar: they both kills each other and cursed the other to an horrible fate which lead me to point 4. 4) This give Salazar a bigger impact in the serie, without him, Jack wouldn't have met Davy Jones. Which mean no Black pearl, no confrontation with him and that lead me to the point 5. 5) By linking Salazar and Jack with Davy Jones, it creates a logical continuity. A cause and effect chain of event which solidify Salazar's presence in the story. Also, some people criticized the way that Salazar was unleash by Jack abandonning the compas. If we ignore "on stranger tides", we could say that the liberation of Salazar could be a consequence of Davy Jones defeat. The deal with Davy Jones could involve Jack taking his revenge on Salazar for killing him. So, the curse of Salazar could be the result of Davy Jones. In the favor of Jack, Davy could have cursed Salazar to remain stuck and his death break the curse, freeing Salazar. Or, Davy Jones, when Jack have the heart in his possession, Davy Jones could have created a contengency plan: if he was to die, this would free the spirit of Salazar to have his revenge on Jack, which would avenge Davy on the process. Think about the relationship between Jack and Salazar. They both kill each other, they both are responsible for each other's misadventures. They both feel wronged in a way. In his eyes, Salazar has won fair and square against young Jack, he cheated by taking Davy's deal. In Jack's eyes, Salazar not only took his live from him but also what he cherish the most: his freedom. It's because of Salazar that he made this cursed deal with Davy. Salazar is the man who started the chain of event who made Jack chained to his own ship as it was hunted by the kraken at some point. Can you imagine the dynamic between these characters ? And character developpement aside, can you imagine how this set up would link "dead man tell no tales" so well with the rest of the franchise ? Yes, we have Will's son who want to free him from the Flying Dutchman. Adding Salazar with this backstory could link things together even better. I believe this change on Salazar would wrap everything up in a more coherent way together. Thanks for reading.

I find myself missing calypso in these films and wondering: what if instead of Salazar being cursed by the bermuda, Calypso offers him a deal to become undead in exchange for hunting down our main cast for some reason. Im no write but I kinda like the idea of Calypso being somehow spited by our main cast, perhaps Will Turner has been too merciful as captain of the flying dutchman, and seeks to replace him. Perhaps moreso, instead of Posiedon's trident simply breaking curses, its the only thing that can truly kill Calypso and her death is what breaks the magic present on the high waters. Of course we also need a reason as to why Davy Jones didn't seek the trident, and what im thinking is the trident can't be wielded by an immortal, a curse placed by Posiedon himself to ensure none could ursurp his throne with his own weapon. Idk, these are moreso concepts than any kind of plot, but I'm a sucker for worldbuilding and I really want to see the consequences of calypso's release. Perhaps the the spanish are involved by trying to tame the wild seas themselves and Salazar was there best and most brutal captain before taking calypso's deal. I just also find myself wanting more to distinguish Salazar from Davy Jones, currently the two are bound by far too similar a curse.

I always felt like the story would almost have been better if Henry remained an eleven, twelve year old boy who found Jack after stowing away on ships and being resourceful, and Jack initially decided to at the very least see this little inconvinience home safely as a favor to Elizabeth, until he produced some kind of clue that persauded Jack that all right, so maybe the trident of Poseidon aren't all myth; so he tells Gibbs to "hide the rum" and tells the lad with the exaggerated grin that you know what, boy, we might be able to help your father after all, as they were going to take a detour. Shenanigans ensue. Just the idea of a Jack Sparrow transitioning from something akin to a reluctant babysitter to a funny uncle for twelve year old Henry as Will and Elizabeth's son grows on him sounds really wholesome to me, as Henry proves to be quick-witted and resourceful, and might use the fact that he is a child to get into a place no adult civilian, let alone pirate, could simply walk through the door by claiming one of the red-coats guarding it was his father, and steal something Jack needs. Sort of like when Mullroy and Murtogg starts bickering, and Jack looks from one to the other with a "oh my god, these two..." look, only this time it is Henry who looks between Jack and Gibbs as they quibble about the best way to get inside this area, and though they freak out a bit when they find Henry gone, once he shows up again, with what Jack needs for the journey, Jack can acknowledge his wit and take him on as a cabin boy for the remainder of the voyage, and stops walking on eggshells around him because he is capable, and not simply little "Will's boy" or "Elizabeth's son".

First of all: Big fan of the changes regarding the relationship between Salazar and Barbossa and: Personally I'd like to see both Carina and Angelica in the movie as both characters were great and they could simply both follow Barbossa Carina as a seafarer and like soft pirate (if that makes sense, she's no Elizabeth after all :)), but without the coupling with Henry as that part just felt set up Angelica as Jacks rival and captain of the Queen Anne's Revenge (Blackbeards ship) -> she could be anyones daughter, I don't think that's too important (as to why she'd do that: Well her and Barbossa could end up on the terms that breaking ALL curses is probably not all that smart, even though Salazar ended being too big of a threat to not do so in the end)

If they want to do a sixth film with Depp I think they should go the logan route kind of. Make jack and his crew old. Ppl like Gibbs are dead and he has a crew that he does not like as they think he is too old and should stop. If they carry on from the post credit scene of 5 where Davy Jones returns for some reason. Ofc give a good reason for him to return and make him have a conflict with will and have him threaten to kill Elizabeth or his son. Will seeks help of Jack but he keeps refusing as he’s too old and depressed but he comes round and they try to save Elizabeth from Jones and face off against him once again. Jack gets stabbed by Jones and is abt to be finished off but Will saves him. Jones heart is exposed and Will is abt to stab it and become the captain of Dutchman once again but jack stops him and stabs it himself. Pretty much do the at world ending but with jack then he finally overcomes his depression and becomes the thing that he always wanted to be then the crew that thought he was done for decide to join him on the Dutchman and accept him as captain after the heroic moment he shown.

Nice rewriting, and it actually could make a really good fifth movie. Honestly, aside from Salazar and the little detail of Barbossa’s monkey being more friendly to Jack at the ending, I really didn’t liked the movie at all. Retcons was all over the place and most of the characters were incredibly poorly written (even Salazar), specially Henry. He has zero character development and the idea of including him in the plot was to copy his own father storyline. I would delete him completely. People can have their own opinion on the forth movie, but at the very least they didn’t fucked up the continuity and the rules of the overall story and characters. And not relying on the main characters from the trilogy (Will and Elizabeth) is a natural move since their story ended. So continuing with Angelica is a nice touch. I would be more radical and make Blackbeard a ghostly presence in her mind, maybe developing her into a villain idk, I think it’s interesting to flesh out more of Blackbeard since On Stranger Tides didn’t gave him enough focus. And anything that you can put Barbossa in it I personally think it’s better than what we got. They destroyed the character here and made him look like an idiot. The main plot of the fifth movie could be centered around him and his ship, and the Blackbeard’s sword too, with Angelica wanting to take revenge and Jack seeking his help because of the Black Pearl. Or better, the movie beginning with the Pearl fixed, because Jack got some help with a voodoo dude or something, and both him and monkey Jack developing some peaceful relationship. It’s perfectly understandable for Jack being the protagonist of On Stranger Tides, but him being more of a secondary character for Barbossa’s conflict with Angelica is way more interesting, specially with you tie her with Salazar (which would make sense because of the actors 😅), pushing Jack into this story. Idk, I think that the third and forth movies established a lot of interesting things for the future and DMTNT just ignored everything and “let’s redo everything we already made” (just like Rise of Skywalker 😪). Btw, if a sixth film come out and just ignores what happened previously (like, 100%, because nothing makes sense), I wouldn’t be bothered at all. I mean, they completely bullshited The Last Jedi (because of reasons 🤪) for a lot less.

U lost me in the second part. Karina is well written character, they don't push her in your face but haven't made her a "who tf is she", they pushed Will's son though (stupid character). And about Jack's reaction on loss of pearl. A lot of people tell that it's garbage scene but i've been in kinda similar sitaution, while not realising it he accepted the loss of her some time ago and it was just an iqonic moment of him realising it. This was well made, he's tired of it, he lacks sea and because of that he gave up which could be seen with trading compass. Jack got back to live only because of new adventure and on his opinion ridiculous attempt to return the Pearl which he's trying to reasure himself will succeed. Oh, there's no reason of navals between Barbossa and Salazar. Barbossa knows him and that he will loose to Salazar so he would choose a smart way as always (just like he did)

While the British try to recover since Barbosta crossed them. In the climax of the film the champion will kill poseidon and have his powers. He would open 2 wormholes after getting poseidon powers jack will kill him and the gang will get separated jack and carina will be sent into one and will and Henry will be sent into the other one. The world jack and carina are in will be hallow earth a new earth. And Henry and will, will go back onto normal earth were their story's will go on from their.
