I made the mistake of getting this for my 1st gundam. I'm also an arm amputee so it's that much harder. I got it all together in few days but putting hips to the torso is hard 1handed and decals are extremely hard. But it's so worth it with action base. I'm hooked on gunpla now!!!!!!!!

Am I the only one who wasn't super-overstressed when building this kit? Maybe my extensive experience with Legos prepared me for this, especially considering that the RG RX-78-2 was only my second Gunpla kit that I ever built (got it for Christmas along with the HG Shining Gundam).

I bought this back in 2012 as my first kit since 2003. Made the mistake of painting the inner frame and several armor pieces and ended up breaking it. Never did finish it. lol

I just have to say,i really just love the way you do the build while also give a lil commentary about it,its really relaxing and insightful I love it

I wish Bandai would release another version of Granpa-Gundam with the same engineering they implemented with the RG Unicorn lines.

Bandai should do Revive or 2.0 style kits on the RG line as well.

Oh man, I am so happy that my first RG experience was the Unicorn Gundam, and I didn't go through my original plan of starting with the RX 78 2. It definitely doesn't look like a bad kit just definitely not safe in my inexperienced hands. The Unicorn was legitimately one of the best building experiences

I've only built one RG which was the RX-178 Mk II. Some pretty small pieces, man, and a ton of stickers. I'm not really feeling the line but it's impressive seeing the engineering going into such a small scale. This is quite a detailed video going into RG strengths and weaknesses. Great stuff!

While it's true that this RG had a lot of issuses I think it was good for its time. I liked the build because it was a challenge for me at the time. They have gotten waaaay better over time and has become my favorite grade. Great review, really informative as always. Hope to see more soon.

It's insane this kit, and the RG line in general, started that long ago. As a build to display model kit, I still think it's amazing, and I like to just think of the articulation as a bonus lol. Plus I'm not much of a painter so I love how practically all RG kits look good and finished even with a straight build. I'll always pick RG over HG if there's the option.

I just got into the hobby not long ago and this video saved me a ton of time because I thought I was doing something wrong with the upper arm armor assembly. Currently not a big fan of the sliding armor gimmick.

i got this as my second model after the HG F91 back in the 2010s, for a beginner its a great kit but its not something you play with

I bought this same kit at a Don Quixote in Shibuya, Tokyo last year as my first ever, proceeded to break a finger off a hand, then a knee, then lost the instructions and then all hope - I have never attempted a kit since, this video gave me the confidence to try again (albiet on an easier kit) cheers!

I would certainly hope that Bandai release a 2.0 with the current level of engineering today. I love the look of the RG Grandaddy, but only after applying glue in the right places.

this kit looks so good, but some parts doesn't stay there very well, i lost 1 finger, 1 beam saber, and 1 white part on the back arm, ( but i managed to make plastic replacement for this one)

i did break the hip side. the joint wherein you have the y-type joint that have to be rotated and hook into the top of the hip.

The metallic stickers are a problem. When I was pasting them on my RG Exia,the stickers scratched off easily and the labeling on the head of exia was missing due to it easily scratched

I got a tip with these old RG kits, what you can do is to topcoat the innerframe before building it, my RG Astray red frame is more solid than most of my EGs

i love the way this kit looks, but its so complicated

this was my first ever real grade and i though it was a cool build, yeah some bits on the arms and legs were a bit finicky, but the amount of detail they got into such a small size is amazing, id definitely recommend it Edit: i just applied some panel liner and it like made the plastic all brittle, it made cracks in a few places which now look super ugly and it straight up just snapped the blue front bit that covers the pilot. Ive never had this happen to any model in my life, its super weird.

Hello everyone. I got back into building Gundam models this past year. So far I've only built high grades, but I want to build something with more detail. Is a real grade kit a good pick? Or should I build a master grade first?

Can you build the skeleton fully then add the bits to it? Kits arriving Friday and friends wanna see the skeleton.

I'm here to say that i play a lot with my -notsuppusedtoplay- RG's, Life is too short for not taking the risk. So I pew-pew the living pew out of them. Also... How do you keep the that chrome glow in RG's decals after a general topcoat? I do it by masking with some putty over the reflective part of the decal and then removing it after applying the coat.

the sad part is i need to order another one :( i broke one of the thigh,and there is a problem with the feet the back part of the feet (both of them) don't have the place for the back of the foot to connect almost like it was suppose to be a reject but was passed

The Complaint about this as my first RG and First Gundam i buy are: 1) The Shoulder armor are very loose when touched 2) the leg waist joint is easily pop off when turning it side to side 3) the foot guard is frustratingly hard to **click** on 4) the thruster is very loose, very as in VERY. Just dont touch it when posing it. The Put your life on the line kind of way. 5) the waist guard is medium-ly pop off, no words can express my rage. 6) the finger are pop off easily if you put it in some position. Anyway, probably the best experience building it and posing it as my first gundam and i am planning to buy Mk II and 00 Gundam Master Grade.

Now one question with that interframe-did you use any form of lubricant to loosen the joints up first, or did you use extreme caution?

Do you have a recommendation for a RX-78-2 Gundam for a beginner in building?

I chose this exact model as my first gunpla ever a few days ago. I think I'm either really incapable of building models, or I managed to get a pirated version or something. Because the parts of mine are super flimsy, don't hold together well, the joints don't really hold poses, some parts like that one on top of the feet don't really fit there well and are super loose, and finally the hands will not grip the shield and swords in any way even the pegs don't really fit the holes in the hands. It is really sad because I was super excited for it, but I won't give up and will try again with another model sometime in the future.

Well to be fair when bandai makes a new model like like RG it usually always starts of very shaky because engineers have to learn how to design and develop it in a 1/144 format with MG details. I mean look at their high resolution line! Started off not so great with the HR barbatos can't even hold it's own wepon, then the HR Wing EW beautiful kit but plastic hand grenade, they only seem to FINALLY got it right with the absolutely amazing HR Gundam Astray so I'm defently looking foward to that other HR wing kit and yet another Astray version the HR Gundam Strike Nior kit which if it's anything like the HR Astray it will be amazing too. I mean like lets be real, bandai still continues to do mistakes here and there even with their most famous line the High Grade kits even to the point they still "remake" their own kits.

I hot this kit without understanding the rating system. I built it with a leatherman micra and a disposable nail file. It was fun but unreasonably difficult and scared me away for a while but im ready to try again, i hot an hg gouf crimson and an xacto knife, can i get reccomendations for a budget nipper and flush cutter? I want to do this one right

So at 13:28 when you slid the backing onto the heel area, the instructions show two tabs that go into two slots. I have two tabs with two tabs? What do i do? Who do I email?

“I like swivels a lot more.” - Jobby-sama must be proud of you. :p If I recall, in later RG’s such as the Unicorn, as I watched in some reviews, the instructions, correct me if I’m wrong, tell you to move the frame parts a few times prior to assembly to loosen them a bit so as to minimize risk of breakage from having really tight joints. I wonder if I ought to do the same for older RG’s.
