Honestly, Viserys is the cause of the Dance of the Dragons. Whether Team Green or Black, this guy handled things so spectacularly poorly, it's almost laughable to think about the manner in which the previous King solved his Succession Crisis. History often repeats itself, and for a man so obsessed with his Ancestry, well, seems he was always looking far back, and not what was closer to his own time. (Plus, as a side note, I think Aemond would've been a decent King if given the chance, I believe. It's the situation regarding the loss of his eye that sours a part of him, understandably.)

Personally, i believe the reason Damon reacted by choking rhaenyra has more to do with what she said about Aegon's dream. Visarys never told him about it; she only realized this in that argument. It's something passed down to Targaryen heirs, in that moment he realized he was never considered seriously by him, which probably was a blow to his ego, it was always her Visarys saw on the throne.

What makes House of the Dragon a good civil war story in my opinion is that it's possible for viewers to choose their side based on their own thoughts and opinions, and there's genuinely no black-and-white determined good or evil side. Those that declare there is are often just trying to defend their own side (both black and green are guilty of this), because they fail to realize that if it really was so black and white, then there wouldn't be nearly as much discourse and disagreement about who's right and who's wrong. Both the Blacks and the Greens have strengths and weaknesses that can be analyzed in detail for the sake of either making a decision or understanding the other side, and the fact that there is that existing divide in the fandom means that the buildup to the war was done right.

I wouldn't be surprised if Daemon killed Rhaenyra and her bastards, maried his daughters to his sons and attempt to take the throne for himself

I think the point of the history book page is that Alicent held on to it for 20 years even during those years where they were at each other's throats. Alicent is saying that she still loves rhaenyra and doesnt want to hurt her.

Rhaenyra's unwillingness to give an answer to Otto is not a sign of strength. It is a sign of ignorance and Daemon has every right to be upset with her response. Daemon understands that war has already been declared by both sides long ago. Otto's offer, "was let me kidnap your two sons with Daemon." The fact she thought about it showed she had no respect for her husband and their children.

13:55 i think you need to understand that Rhaenyra is guiding herself with what she can. Oaths in westerosi culture are considered very important. Considering that Rhaenyra has been on dragonstone(which is formally known as the castle of the heir) she is guiding herself by that, its her only resource. Obviously not everyone is gonna take oaths seriously in westeros, but many lords do. Even in the books she has more ppl that supported her than aegon

When I watched the scene where Daemon chokes Rhaenyra, my take on it was that in that moment, Daemon’s ego was severely damaged by the realisation that Viserys never seriously considered him as his heir during his entire reign; the relevation of Aegon’s dream, and how it is passed from king to heir was the moment is confirmation in his mind of what he has always believed - his brother never took him seriously, not even when he was the only viable option for heir under old Westerosi law. You can even see after he chokes her that Rhaenyra actually says “He never told you…”. She realises the same thing as Daemon. Even though him choking her is not justifiable, I do think that it’s in character for Daemon to react in that way. After all, is it always made clear in both the books and the show that he is reckless, violent and in a lot of ways, a very unpredictable man.

I believe, that even if Rhaenyra was actually Rhaemond, Otto would've still pulled his bullshit, and used his daughter n exactly the same way. Only upon Viserys's death, Rhaemond would've had his throat slit n his sleep. Otto's hatred for Daemon (likely the entire Targaryan line) would've created a fiasco, regardless. That's just me. 👍💯

I honestly think the Greens had the worst plan in the grand scheme of things, for one simple reason. Aegon and Aemond, especially Aegon, are far too reckless and impulsive to properly control. Aemond hunting down Lucerys, even if his death was an accident, is probably the worst possible thing that could have happened as it single handedly plunged the country into civil war, when Rhaenyra had way more dragons than the Greens. And without spoiling too much, Aegon and Aemond’s decisions continue to just fan the flames of civil war.

Daon was NOT trying to CLAIM Vermithor, because that would be impossible (and would probably end with Vermithor burning him). A rider can only bond with one dragon at a time, and vice versa, and the bond is for life. The only way Daemon could try to claim Vermithor would be if Caraxes died. It seems that Daemon thought Vermithor would need to be coaxed first, before they could start looking for someone to try to claim him (Daemon's daughter Rhaena is the onlyfree potential dragonrider of age to ride a dragon now, so maybe he's preparing him thinking she may try to clai him), because he's been riderless for some 30 years at this point, since the old king Jaehaerys I died. The Blacks don't really have an advantage in dragon power. Daemon was intentionally overstating their supposed power because he was arguing for war. "More dragons" doesn't translate to "more dragon power" in itself, when those dragons are of drastically different sizes and experience. We saw Vhagar vs Arax, and that was technically a 1:1 dragonfight. This should make it clear how that works. Secondly, the Blacks don't actually HAVE 13 dragons. They just have ACCESS to 13 dragons, but that's no use without dragonriders. You can't make a dragon do anything if the dragon is riderless. At the moment Daemon was speaking, the Blacks actually had 5 dragons plus Meleys once the Velaryons declared for them. One of those dragons/dragonriders is dead now. RIP Arrax and Luke. So they now have 6, but of those 6, one of the riders is a 6 year old child, Joffrey, and the dragon is also no doubt very small. Jace's Vermax and Baela's Moondancer are small dragons (Moondancer is said to be the size of a horse in the books), being around 16 years old. Rhaenyra's Syrax is mid-size and only Meleys and Caraxes are somewhat bigger, but still only half Vhagar's size. And only Caraxes has any war experience. On the other hand, the Greens have four dragons, but one of those is Vhagar, the oldest and by far the biggest dragon in the world, a veteran of several wars. Now, things would be very different if the Blacks actually had dragonriders for the other 6 dragons that Daemon referred to. Or even 2 or 3 of them, since Vermithor is the second biggest dragon and SIlverwing should also be pretty big (those two are among the 3 next oldest dragons. But as of now, they still don't have them, and at the moment, they have only one potential dragonrider. And there's also a problem with Seasmoke, what with Laenor still being alive somewhere. As for the 3 wild dragons, that's an even bigger gamble even if they would find potential dragonriders to try to claim them. If Daemon thinks he needs to prepare Vermithor (and probably Silverwing, too, who's been riderless for even longer, since Queen Alysanne died), then I imagine taming and claiming a wild dragon would be even harder. At this point, as far as we know, no one had done it in recent history. (yet?)

Aegon did not want it and he was unworthy of it. If he had been truly worthy of it and had trained for it, he should have gotten coronated but declared a Great Council to evaluate whether his coronation should stand, or whether or not the throne should go to Rhaenyra.

This was a recap more than analysis. You always talk about the Blacks terrible strategic decisions. But making and enemy of DragonStone is the worst strategic decisions made in the show.

The monarchy and laws of this corrupt society destroyed families, relationships, friendships and countless innocents. Neither alicent or rhaenyera are the villains. Westeros itself is the villain of this story. And for what? In the end no crown or seat or family name will matter, regardless of what happens between the blacks and greens and all the factions after, Winter is coming for all of them. It makes you wonder, without their families scheming and their children being born, would these two still be sat in the godswood with each other, laughing and reading stories whilst eating cake with each other as carelessly as they were so many years ago. By the way the tyrells stay neutral, and the arryns, tullys and starks do join the blacks. The only true allys to the greens are the lannisters, redwynes, baratheons and crownlands. The iron islands stay neutral for a while and then eventually join the blacks as well as most of the westerlands. Also most of the reach join the blacks.
