It is nice to see that even though your bull nearly wrecked the crush, something as simple as a little trim and walking him through the foot bath 3x helped him. That is a great lesson in basic preventative husbandry. Now, about that poo all over his tail....

Foot bath first then the blue goop. I used to trim my bull's hooves while he was lying down in the field. A very calm Highland. Nowhere near as big as your guy. Had him for 16 years and miss him very much. Have a new bull now that's still too shy to let me near him, but working on it. You have a nice setup there. For the bull have a look at what is used for trimming Ox hooves. Thanks for all the great videos.

I have enjoyed watching your new vid and it’s almost brought this soppy old so&so to tears 😭, because in my early working life I was doing that sort of work and I really did enjoy 😊 it, farming is not about money 💴 but about a really great way of living on and with nature and enjoying what you reap at the end of the farming year but then starting all over again, oh and that dirty word (money) that’s just a bonus at the end of the day. Keep up the good work Tom and keep everyone near you safe and well.

Despite the difficulties I thought that went well. :-) I love the honesty in your videos, Tom - they're not edited and censored to put a positive, heroic 'spin' on proceedings. Stuff happens; stuff gets done; that's farming. For all his discomfort and longer-term problems (a broken tail? Poor guy!) Neptune showed great patience with his handling; he seems to have a sweet nature and clearly trusts you - nobody got crushed, clobbered or crippled, which is always a good sign. 10 days after the trimming and his footbath he did indeed look 100% better. Bravo. Also: moo! I can see why people might wonder why you don't invest in some new kit, but I bet they run 'money is no object' fantasy farms. Splashing out £50,000 or whatever on a new crush for the sake of one (albeit lovely) bull makes no sense. Far better to call on the Hoof GP and keep him sweet with cups of tea and packets of biscuits and some flattering editing... Just kidding. He does excellent work all by himself. And that's no 'bull'!

You realize that loading that bull into a crush that is not made to deal with that size and strength of bovine, is risking him getting really hurt. If he turned it over, and struggled it could be tragic for the bull.

@@c7fz724 no, but they could bring in a hoofer that has a bigger, more modern crush for the job. More cost effective than buying one.

I raise Angus beef cattle in South Dakota United States. Interesting how everything is done differently. What is neptune's bloodline? Wondering if we have any of it over here.
