been searching and searching for the organist that can play the adagio at the right tempo, with real feeling and emotion, just enough rubato so that the organ "sings" but it's not turned into a romantic interpretation. It's as difficult as "o mensch bewein"' in that way - a solo singing vocal melody with an accompaniment, that needs to go straight to the heart but stay firmly in the baroque. This is about as good as it gets!! I've been trying to achieve the right balance all my life.... fantastic Mr Preston!

I can't believe that seven people have given this a 'thumbs down.' Thankfully 144 appreciate the fantastic work of this amazing organist. When our son was born in 1980 we couldn't come up with a name for him. So one evening I pulled out a record and lo and behold, there was our son's name...named after the fabulous Simon Preston!

This is one of the most awesome Oregon pieces I've ever heard recorded! RIP Mr Preston.

I own Preston's complete Bach Organ works set, and it is one of my most precious possessions. I've done a lot of comparison listening, and return to this set of recordings. This recording is a fine example of what awaits you in the rest of the set. Crisp clear playing and sound, gorgeous organs, and about the music...well, I need say nothing about that at all.

The best version ever by the best organist! Because this toccata need an organ with high frequence ( not a dark organ sound) the more the sound is thinner the more its amazing! I hope that someone has understood what i meant upthere.

Excellent! Had I been the recording engineer, though, I would have tightened up on the instrument... the acoustics of the building are a little too 'loose'... great playing from Simon, of course!!

Where is this organ? who built it? When?

it's a little Skippy and trite... and some phrases are "clipped"... especially in the pedal solo...and the adagio too... LOVE the organ... and registrations!!! still.. He's one of the GREATEST master of the instrument... with very little I don't like... is certainly made up by the much bigger picture which is WONDERFUL, his structure is amazing!!! AND what a wonderful man! I was lucky enough to play for him in a master class years ago... !
