Thanks for posting this......great job. I could never get my fingernails that clean and would have to grind down the tips of the scissors as I drop things and wouldn't want to poke a hole.....Lots of precision in your work and hope you get to fly in it when it is all done.

You forgot the locking half hitch on the first knot. At least I assume you forgot - not much point in putting one at the last knot, but not the first.

Buddysimo Simonetta Oratex would still need rib stitching. Despite what some people claim. Relying on glued joint in tension is asking for trouble.

Is there supposed to be a half hitch on the starter knot? I think there was two on the finishing knot.

How do you do this on the second surface?
@ig2087
@ig2087 5 жыл бұрын
Aviator168 I’m no professional but from watching another video and hearing the explanation, I believe that the underside doesn’t need rib stitching. It was explained that to top side of the wing tend to want to suck the fabric up and off the top of the wing that’s why they using the technique of rib stitching on the top. Like I said I’m no expert but just sharing an explanation from another video. Cheers.

Ian Gentle The upper and lower surfaces are rib stitched. When the needle is pushed down through the upper surface, it is pushed through the lower surface as well. The needle is too long to make a U-turn anyhow. This video does a great job showing the knot, but doesn’t show how the hole is located on the lower surface. There are other videos that show the prep of upper and lower surface so that the lacing is parallel to the ribs even though upper surface length (along the rib from front to rear) is longer than lower surface length.

you can use urethane on Dacron?

+CHOPPERGIRL AIRWAR That you, choppergirl on HBA? Yes, you can put urethane on Dacron, but only after you use either a dope base, or Polyfiber or any other proven system. On its own, it will just peel off.

+PDZ1122 Yeah its me. Hmm, kind of defeats the point as I'm trying to avoid polyfiber. I can get all the house paint I want for free. What about exterior latex?
@oscarb9139
@oscarb9139 5 жыл бұрын
CHOPPERGIRL's AIRWAR I suspect that any topcoat that is not designed for fabric, will peel in a short amount of time. House paint makes the assumption that the walls aren’t going to flex like fabric and is not designed to continually flex. Poly Fiber, Stewart Systems, PPG all have aircraft paint, and it is much more expensive than house paint. You would also need to consider what product you intend to use for UV protection before the topcoat is applied. But if you apply house paint and it peels off, you will either have to spray on more house paint (will look terrible) or recover the aircraft with fabric and paint with the expensive stuff when you realize that using the correct paint is the way to go. I feel your pain. I had no idea how much the paint cost when I started, but covering is too much work to do more than once.

Never use a chalk.-line. It will transfer through the top finish. Always use pencil. Use a curve tip needle if your doing a hidden stitch. If you are posting to educate, make sure everything you do is correct.

1) get rid of the music and let us hear what the steps are… 2) you don’t need to spend half the video showing us the knots are every 3.5 inches and how to put tape on wing…. You could tell us why 3.5 and what the tape is and does. 3) what’s happening on the bottom side???
