I got a pair of these this past winter. I want to advise to glue them down or get a size a little smaller then you think you need. Otherwise you will endlessly be putting them back on the rims or having to re-straighten them in place. Otherwise they saved the skin on my hands quite a few times when going to quick or downhill. Thanks for posting the review of them for folks.

I agree very much with everything in your review. I purchased a pair a few weeks back and I am a C6 quadriplegic. But yes I did find out the hard way about going down the ramp with my long sleeves. I wouldn’t want to do that on the sidewalk. So yes it’s touch and release technique. But fantastic for cruising and going uphill One other thing, purchasing them in Canada where I am was a very expensive endeavor. With duty shipping and then extra brokerage fees it was a lot. Wish we had a manufacturer here for a free trade deal. Because I am a believer. Thanks Kevin

I'm glad you enjoyed the review. I try and be as honest as possible. Still use mine everyday but sometimes still annoying. Pros out way cons for me. Sorry it was so expensive Ben

I tried these once and hated them. They were too grippy and burned my hands while going down hill. Glad they work out for some people though!

They didn't work for me either. I think living in Florida where it gets super hot I got second degree burns on my hands and fingers, but also they fell apart eventually which I am thinking because of the heat and I am very active. Who knows though. My next manual wheelchair is going to be much better and easier for me. Glad that this product works for some.

I have grip issues (so bad that PT had me try the projection handrims, but they really hurt when going down a hill), but I got The Surge Handrims. The Surge Handrims have a little rubber piece on the outer edge of the rim to help grip when pushing, but the rest is normal smooth aluminum. So, I push on the outer edge when self propelling and on the sides to steer when using my SmartDrive and to control my speed when going down a hill. I don’t have to wear gloves when inside on flat level ground, but normally wear half finger weight lifting style gloves when outside because if you hold the rubber strip piece when going down hill it can burn your hands. I’ve had them for almost a year and they have been a complete game changer for me to be able to use a manual wheelchair.

Awesome ben. Grate review. As you know im a big fan rim grips. There are for sure some downsides and upsides. But for me I wouldn't be without them.

I just bought a set for my 'chair, a Motion Composites APEX 'chair, from RibGrips' Amazon storefront. I can't wait to get them. One question, if I may -- I have short tabs for my handrims. Will that be a concern for me? Thanks in advance.

You should try pushing on dirt path to see the durability. I am not into making videos. I am a quad too . My gloves wear our more faster than shoes. Gloves are expensive. I am wondering how can I make them rubbery as shoes.

(See my reply under Kmorris 99 about these handrim covers) I have a few of your workouts, book marked, that I do regularly. Especially now that my gym (The Perfect Step) has been closed because of COVID. I've noticed that you can raise your hands (swing them) pretty high. Do you have a video that includes tricep work? I'm also a C6 quad (10 years) but I have very little, if any, tricep strength. I know all paras and all quads are different, but you've got good range of motion for a C6. Maybe it's also because I'm 58 yrs. old. Have you been doing any exercises, over the years, to develop your triceps? If so, what is it? Thanks, from Southern California, USA.

I'm a c7 so I have a little extra tricep function. Have you tried isometric exercises?

I thought you said you were a C6. No, I haven't tried but I'll look into it. I'll find something around the house to press against. I have a Theraband strap with a Velcro wrist strap at one end. I could position myself so it's taught then I could try to move my arm like I'm throwing a ball, overhand. Thanks.
