Thanks for the review! I've been looking all over for a good push rim cover option. Side note: I also have POTS and I also rest my toes on the foot plate like you do. 💁‍♀️💜

Thank you so much for making this video. I am studying for my Physical Therapy license and some of this does not really make sense to me when I just read it and you cant always think of the downside of products that you yourself don't use.

Good 'write-up'. Been thinking of getting some myself. I can grip the metal rims mostly ok in summer, though I still prefer using gloves. In winter the rims are very cold and bare hands slip more ( also darned cold sometimes!) On gloves, I tried padded wheelchair gloves with 'cut-off' finger tips. They didn't last long & didn't keep my fingers clean/protected. I now use DIY gloves from a local DIY store. They have thickish rubber on the palms and fingers and grip the rims really well & are much more durable than other gloves I tried. ( Some just had rubber dots on...which worked well for about a week until the dots wore off!)

I personally use cycling gloves and I find them a million times better and more durable than wheelchair gloves. Weightlifting gloves work great too.

I went with a different push rim last year when I got a new chair, I went from titanium rims to Surge rims that has a flat outside and a rubber grip on top so you can both get the improved grip when pushing but at the same time have somewhere to be able to slow down without burning your hands off. Only bad thing about the Surge rims I’ve noticed is that the rubber grip on them goes kinda slippery after a while and the non rubber coated parts are extremely slippery. But the rims are still better than the titanium ones were, and I get better grip with gloves on than with gloves against the titanium, so it all works out ok in the end. Good grip sure helps when having Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome or just Hypermobility in general. Another good thing with my chair is that the side guards I have have a soft top and firm sides so I can actually push down on the top of them to aid slowing down, and it’s also good for people who transfer sideways as these side guards are softer if landing on them during transfer, or for that matter get up on the side guards a little to reach a higher shelf if being too tired or in too much discomfort to stand up (or if being unable to stand)

The teal matches the shutters on my home perfectly. I also had no idea that you had a wheelchair. I'm glad you like them. I didn't have anything like that when I had a wheelchair. (I fell off a ladder and needed a wheelchair for a month)

My chair came with a rubber/plastic coating. I destroyed them within months. Then i got a new set. Destroyed them again within months. So for about 19 years i just have metal rims. I would destroy any of these rim covers rather quickly. Bums me out but it is what it is. I would like to find some that are a bit bigger in diameter and plain metal, not painted. Glad i saw this video !

I use the same exact fitgrips! But only in the winter, if I use them in the summer my hands are much more sweaty and I will get blisters big time and then it's awful trying to push around all day. So fitgrips are a winter only add on to my chair. Also I still have some good sized tears in mine because I'm pretty rough with everything I own. Going downhill with fitgrips, especially on my college campus was a bit of a learning curve but I try to keep my fingers on the exposed metal part of the rim to slow myself down and not use the rubber as much because you WILL burn your hands big time from friction.

Thankfully it’s not that warm where I live in the summers so I haven’t had an issue with them. But yes going down hill is such a pain! Especially if you don’t have gloves on!

What is the diameter of the push rims with the Fit Grips on? Do they stay on well, even though they're designed to fit up to a 26" wheel? I'm trying to decide which push rim covers to get because I need a larger surface area for gripping than standard push rims offer (POTS causes my hands to swell to the point that, even with gloves on, I can't grip standard push rims very well).

Question about your Apple Watch (assuming that's what it is)... have you found a good way to swap it between wheelchair mode and walking mode without having to dig through the settings every time? I got wheels recently for my bad days and I'm trying to figure out an easy way to switch modes.

@ConnyNordlicht 4 жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks! My name is Conny and l've got some 4 weeks ago, tod. Mine are from normal ones, called Ultra Grrrrip (3 r, yes!) by reha design in Germany in red. They work pretty fine but, like they all, you've to wash them very often. Otherwise you'll have so much dust on top and your hands are dirty and feel ugly and you don't wanna hold anything, e.g. food or so in these hands! In sun it might be not so hot but every day you have to climb down a ramp or hill it's a lot more warmth than without. It can burn your hand if ramp's too long. But here all the pro's: aelot more grip, it's about 45% more surface you'te got! For everyone with small handfunktioneor/and powerein arms, shoulders, hands this is heaven on earth! You need so mucheless power yourself!eWays are not as energy sapping and exhausting as bevore! So you've got more "Yeah" in your mindeif it's up to meet s.o.if you were out bevore :) Your wheelz look in that wonderfulecoloureyouewanted so bad!eAllewho searcheyou in a mal will find you easiereand you're proud! If on some ramps the gripeisn't enough though youecan try use wheels AND grips on both sides! To roll and brake ie emergency. But try before! when you bump at corners and other things you don't have the digs and dongs youedaily get on the handgrip! That's gone away with this coat. So it's worth it, of course! The only point, heat is to go against very easy: if l know this day it might be hot, it put myeold gloves on that l normally don't use any more. Be blessed, all around!

@@SnowySpiritRuby Good eyes. so it is a ki mobility (catalyst) rogue Wheelchair. The Tilite aero z is the one I wish I could get. I put in a funding application hopefully that works. My first time doing this so hopefully I didn't it right.
@SnowySpiritRuby
@SnowySpiritRuby 3 жыл бұрын
@@katlady5000 The Catalyst and Rogue are 2 completely different chairs - Catalyst is a folding frame and Rogue is a rigid. I just got my Aero Z 3 weeks ago - I like it, but it's still a bit on the heavy side for me (I have to take off the wheels in order for it to be light enough for me to lift it into the car), so I'll be getting a ZRA next time (3-5 years from now, depending on what insurance I have when the time comes) - I'm still grateful that I finally have a chair that actually fits me properly, though (I had hand-me-down and second hand chairs for the first 2 years), and it's still a great chair; my current backup chair is a Catalyst 5 that I spent a long time configuring to fit me as best as it can, as I got it as a hand-me-down 7 weeks ago, so it wasn't made to fit me specifically. If weight isn't as important for you, then aluminum is a good option, as it's a fair amount cheaper than titanium but still pretty light and pretty strong.
