Our video features my daughter's cake that I made for her Confirmation last month.
I didn't film the entire process of the cake but I wanted to film more of the flowers.
I tried rice paper flowers for the first time 🙈 yeah I know... For my first time they were tricky but as you go along you seem to get the hang of it.
The template was simply drawn freehand and cut out.
For each flower I used 3 small petals and 6 big petals.
Don't leave the petal in the water for too long as it'll get too soft and soggy.
Attaching the wire to the petal can be tricky at first but the key is patience. Gently wrap with the rice paper petal using a tweezer.
Leave to dry for a couple of hours and they're ready to use.
I tied 3 small petals first and the the bigger ones. Use a white thread preferably to tie.
The edge is lightly touched with gold paint.
For the middle I stuck a craft gem sticker using royal icing.
The dried flowers were attached to a wire or even better cocktail stick to be pierced into the cake.
The pins that were used to hold the acrylic name were later taken out.

Maria, incredible art. I diluted vodka with gold and it falls off staining my flowers. Any suggestions? I haven't done cakes in 30 years and now I am doing one for my daughter's 40th.

Thank you 😊 You may need a slightly better quality gold dust. Yes Some of them actually dust off once dry. Try Faye Cahil if you’re in the UK.
