Just to let everyone know this video was filmed a bit over a month ago when gold was at a lower price hence the price per sovereign offered. Of course now this number would be higher due to golds increase in price.

Theyre now about 455 per sovereign, so wasnt a terrible deal. Price fluctuates alot, I would have been pretty happy with that @ 410

it was a bad deal,she been collecting them decades and probably has some rare and numanistic value ones,seems like they just gave her scrap value from non numanistic bullion, hewr him say i will keep that one myself

I’ve been collecting sovereigns since 1991 (every time I had enough money I’d buy one) and last time I counted there were 107 half’s and 143 full. I don’t intend selling them I’m going to leave them to my 2 grand kids.

@@scottmcdonald6167 try and get scrap gold and silver, as it’s not worth paying a premium for an investment and scrap gold is valued on gold content which will never go down, only up, I got a 3.7g 9ct cross for 20 quid at a car boot, even cash generators offered 70, and that’s just one example.

£410 isn’t 4 x 1980 £45 which is about £250 in todays money meaning that the actual value has approximately doubled

In the states we have war bonds, which I think the UK paid from the whole lend lease act. They are a financial instrument that is so outdated it’s a miracle anyone still keeps them.

But you could win the million then it’s obviously the greatest investment you ever could make .just the way she said it like somehow she thought it was going to be worth more than she put in not how it works .find it a bit strange that anyone would say my premium bonds haven’t gone up as they never will that’s not the point of them

@@thothofatlantis no, "technically" you've won a prize. Usually returns on investment (dividends, capital gains etc) are taxed (outside an ISA, anyway) but premium bond winnings are tax free.

Those government bonds were shocking. My papa got a few for £150 each back in the day ( roughly £1500 today) and it was paid out at £600 each when he cashed it a year ago.. £900 missing per bond🤨

I love the comments of these videos. So many people dont know what they are talking about. How much something is worth is based on what somebody is willing to pay for it, nothing more. The reality is that these shops have to make a profit and these guys are actually some of VERY few who give FAIR prices. Ive done a lot of buying and selling and I worked for a large organisation selling pre owned items for them online. If she took those same coins to 99% of jewellers, cash converters etc - they would have offered her much less or gave her an exchange for stuff of much lesser value but convinced her its a bargain. I like these guys so im gonna buy my first rolex from them to support their business.

Always interesting to see 'true' gains once you factor in for inflation. I have a small gold collection, stocks, the usual. But now I see the potential for BTC. Its an asset that doesn't degrade over time, requires no upkeep, limited run, and can trade instantly without conversions fees or shipping anywhere in the world 'instantly'. A digital limited run coin.

Gold really wasn’t anywhere near as good as investment as property. Inflation has meant that 400 is actually relatively less than 40 in the 70s

you don't buy premium bonds to sell them at a higher price, you buy them to win money each month, I've got 50k's worth and I usually win a couple of hundred a month.

@@paulumer4378 the value of premium bonds doesn't change no matter how long you own them, £1 today will be worth £1 in 50 years time, there's no guarantee you'll win any money either, I'd probably be better off putting my money in a high interest account, I can't advise where to invest though sorry.

@paulumer4378 Buy an S&P 500 index fund, within a tax efficient account, and invest the same amount each month no matter if the price is high or low.

@@paulumer4378 The order should be something like : pay off any debts first -> make sure you have cash in an emergency fund -> start filling up an ISA with a basket of ETFs -> think about more speculative investments like cryptocurrencies etc -> alternative investments like premium bonds, precious metals etc. So yeah you can make PBs part of a strategy, but there are other things you would be better off doing first. Your mileage may vary, etc etc.
