Watched this as an African and I felt a pierce in my heart. The documentary is beautiful, that is not a doubt. But it sheds so much information on how Africa is so rich, yet it benefits the least from all its resources. Half of this documentary is in Africa. Some of the places that had (in the past) gold e.g San Francisco are so developed right now, but all gold-rich sources in Africa are still struggling to even have power, healthcare, and education. Colonialists taught us so many things like religion, social interaction, their culture, but not good governance; and Africa is bleeding and being milked of all its minerals and resources for way less than it deserves. The South African gold mined in the 80's are probably sitting in colonial vaults right now, backing their economy. I couldn't help but feel sorry for our motherland. An informative and eye-opening film Idris.

I enjoyed this documentary about the history of gold mining, but I was disappointed that it didn't talk about the most important issue facing Ghana's gold mining industry: the damage it's doing to our water and forests. The sharp contrast between the developed countries and Ghana is a stark reminder of our corrupt leaders and how they are mismanaging our natural resources. But overall, I learned a lot from this documentary

@@ariamason9324hello Sir, please do some research. The Asantehene doesn’t own and control the gold in Ghana. The gold mined in Ghana is managed by the Government of Ghana. The gold he’s wearing has been passed on for generations. If he sells all that gold, it won’t even match the amount of gold mined a day in Ghana. He’s actually a great King, and we respect him. We Asantes have a tradition that we honor.

@ebenezerlawsonasamoah9067, the culture is what I love. Plus, this is an African nation. Once we were rich, now because Nkrumah wanted a united Africa we had to try and help others out (the Asante region is the second richest region in Ghana. The poorest region in the one north from us. Funnily enough, they used to be quite rich too). Should've given us our independence by your logic. It would've been better considering the industrial output of the Asante region

@@six-gunThat’s not a fair way to judge the Asante Kingdom because Asantes don’t even live on the coast, and didn’t have first contact with the European slave traders. The blame should be on those tribes that were on the coast that allowed slavery to grow. Asantes did what they needed to do for survival. They either sell others or be sold. Infact, Asantes are the only tribe that opposed and fought against the European slave traders. The other tribes united with the British to fight Asantes.

Wow! This was excellent. As a teacher I love this because this project was created for understanding for elementary children up to adults. Great narrating and easy to understand facts. Thank you for making this story of gold accessible to all. The history of gold in Ghana and South Africa is part of history. The connections to tech, health, environment, and wealth around the world is inspirational. It inspires all to even buy gold! I pray for those whose lives have been changed negatively for the grabbing of gold. Let's be inspired to continue to learn and teach about it. Next story? Diamonds!

Would you teach , the massive exploitation of minerals/gold etc by western conglomerates who often bribe politicians. There’s is an massive dark side to this that we cannot ignore, Unfortunately Africans still aren’t benefiting from the vast mineral wealth they hold.

My oldest maternal uncle was originally a self taught uranium miner. He patented the first under water shotgun for sharks & loved the oceans & Earth. He established a sea turtle preserve in Belize many years ago. He became the chief environmental engineer of Fluor. He worked with mining & power plant construction worldwide. He also held patents on gold extraction & mining processes. We have a picture of him holding an enourmous block of gold weighing 80 pounds. He is straining while grinning ear to ear. We still extract gold & diamonds from several sources using a variety of techniques. It's thrilling & fun.

Because he doesn't want to look like a complete sellout. This is basically propaganda paid for by interest groups in the mining sector. Notice how they walked right past examining the environmental impact of mining, straight to all the socially responsible fixes they're implementing. I mean think of how broad they went with this, just covering things that are vaguely related to gold, barley even a premise @@sotokijiji2759

Great documentary! I was quite disappointed about not going deeper on how some of these gold mines has caused great damage to our environment. Especially in Ghana 🇬🇭 where illegal miners, embarked by some government officials and even some traditional rulers destroying our water bodies therefore making unsafe for consumption and environmental degradation . I believe other African countries are also facing similar problems.

Sooo, i watched all of the film interpretations of rhe story and love them all in their own regard. What is interesting is that, especially on this one is, that a lot of people behave like the aliens in the story, 100% disregarding any other impression than their very own limited personal view, compelety revitalizing the aliens prejudice and speciesm that the whole story is about. To them, this scenic interpretation is simply "meat". Awesome .
