@thaleleaf26 not a far stretch at all. They're both ideologies about how to handle group and individual rights and responsibilities in life. Just one is more tenured of an established system than the other. Both are group social movements at the end of the day. Religion and particularly regligious dogmatic thinking is no different than trumpism or liberalism and it's hilarious so many people choose to put blinders on to these facts. The only difference between a movement. A cult. And a religion. Is its sustainability and staying power. Religions typically mix in more sustainable "good" things, like health codes but explained through theological means like no pork or bathe or do hair a certain way etc. And more sustainable social practices like emphasis on truthfulness. But these "good" things don't make the religions credible or good. Just proves those "good" ideas can sustain that system. And I think society progresses in a way of continously making the social formula more "good" and sustainable. Like by "baking in" "good" things like don't murder. Be truthful. Let people do what they want if it doesn't effect others. Freedom of choices. Etc etc...

From what I have read/seen - he’s talking at a religious college to most likely religious people who view the world differently. As a Catholic the second most important thing is our families (1st is God). Just because our views are different than the worlds doesn’t make them wrong 😅. Our Vocation (if youre religious) is very important to us because it’s the way in which we will lead our families and others to God.

Although I think Harrison Butker could have stated his thoughts in a more eloquent manner, he is simply expressing the thoughts that he and his wife share about their family and the traditional roles that they fulfill within their marriage. He is honoring the vocation that she has chosen, and the gist of his speech is to make sure that young Catholic women should not feel badly should they choose to forgo a career in order to pursue the vocation of wife/mother exclusively. I hardly think that merits the controversy that it seems to have sparked. Nothing in his speech condemned or disparaged women who choose to pursue careers.

Here’s the issue, women don’t want to be men, but if they don’t “act like men” then history goes backwards. Women weren’t allowed to have a credit card until the late 70’s. In a marriage should a woman have her own opinions and be apart of discussions? Do they just do as they are told? That’s the debate?
