@@TheForbiddenOne55 If I recall, Wilson had a no-trade clause in his Seattle contract. Part of why Seattle was ready to move on is that they didn't want to be on the hook for yet another huge extension. Wilson's agent is ruthless and gets top dollar. Thus, there never would have been a trade to Denver without the agreement to extend his contract ASAP. So they made the trade knowing they were also extending him. Wilson has won at the business game of the NFL and I have zero sympathy for billionaires having to honor a contract they presented to one of their employees.

Agreed. And he was coming off a couple of not so good years with the Hawks. He wasn't terrible. But he hadn't really looked like the old Russell Wilson in a year or two. Agreed. I think the reason they signed him to an extension when they did is because Herbert and Lamar Jackson were negotiating extensions and after Deshawn Watson hit all of that guaranteed money they were afraid that Herbert and Jackson would reset the market and they’d have to pay him more after he performed well. Turns out that was a very bad idea.

Isn't it weird.. He said Russel entered into the league 2012. So his 2nd year he won a SB, just like Brady. On an upward trend. He was even doing better because he made it back to back sooner.. But that pass he made to Butler it's like two parallel universes could've split there. If he won he's got 2 in 2 years and propels forward a dynasty up to now. Instead Brady wins to kickstart his 2nd career dynasty after 10 years. And that propels him forward almost 10 years to attending 4 more Superbowls, winning 3.

Rule #31: If a franchise trades or cuts its healthy starting quarterback without a plan B at the position, there is a high likelihood that they are no longer a franchise quarterback. You bring him in at your own peril and you should absolutely know that the chances of success are low. Franchise QBs are a rare and premium commodity, and when you believe you have one, you keep them. This is now the second franchise to cut ties without a legitimate backup plan, so it tells me that the dude is washed. It doesn't mean Russ will never start again, it just means he likely won't be the answer for anyone.

So you're right, Russ was cut because he was getting paid to be excellent and he struggled for the better part of a season and a half to simply be good. @tyronegrant3422 I don't know, he had a lot of success for a lot of years and helped coach up a lot of stars and future Hall of Famers. Payton didn't inherit a winning franchise in New Orleans or in Denver but managed to get one of them to the mountain top (so far). I'm a Chiefs fan, so I really don't care how this works out for Denver or for Russ. But even as a fan of another team, I know that if Seattle and Denver could have won with this version of Russ, they would have won with this version of Russ. 🤷 Whatever market value Russell Wilson has right now, is because of what Payton was able to get out of him. Because his first year after being moved by the team that drafted him lowered his stock considerably. Imagining what Russ can be for someone else is not reality, that is a guess at best. The reality is that the team that wanted him to be great the most (Seattle) didn't want him in the building, and the team that had hope that he would bounce back (Denver) now doesn't want him in the building. Those are real things that happened. Reality.

You’re not wrong, Russ had success in Seattle cause he just had to not turn the ball over and they relied on Beast mode to run the ball and that legion of boom defense.. Alex Smith could’ve done the same thing with that team. And Russ even cost them the 2nd Super Bowl with a pass that was behind the receiver and the CB could jump it. He may have been good to the community but he was an awful teammate, so many similar stories of players saying they’d try to get ahold of him and they’d have to basically make an appointment with his receptionist to talk to him and couldn’t have his phone #.. then he shows up in Denver with his own office on 2nd floor not even in the locker room with the guys, has his own parking spot, own team with access to everything the players do. Dude just thought he was better than everyone else cause he married a celebrity and got that status and big pay day. Sure he put up numbers when they had Penny and no namers at RB but they never went anywheres in the playoffs and were never seen as a real threat to anyone. Idk what team would take him now if he wants to start, Denver had the best roster of any team that is looking for a QB right now that doesn’t plan on drafting one. Then when Sean Payton came in... it felt like someone who hated Lamborghinis and ONLY wanted a Ferrari, so he maliciously drove missed gears and tried to show what a terrible car this Lambo is by taking it off-roading and doing tractor pulls with it. Then he says "see? Lamborghinis are terrible cars. I need a Ferrari!" It's a shame to see, because as much as I loved what Seattle got from the trade, it's a shame to watch someone be so horribly mishandled. I'd honestly take him back in a heartbeat and have him start next hear for the 'Hawks. If he played at league minimum and stuck Denver with the tab... god. I would never stop laughing.

I believe the disastrous pass call at the end of Super Bowl 49, which Seattle had in hand, have these many years later scuttled both Wilson's and Carrol's careers. The consequences of that play were devastating and far reaching.

Sean Payton is No Pete Carol ! & Brock Purdy has changed the way the Draft is looked at ! Once again , Alex Smith was spectacular under coach Andy Reid ! Just Saying , God Bless Russel Wilson & I hope he finds his way under another great coach !

I agree. While I love Pete, he had limitations, mostly keeping terrible secondary coaches, like Bevel. I wonder what a really great coach and O coordinator could do with Russ. He will work, and with the right plan could be legendary again. He is a good coach away from Canton

Not shocking. Part of what allowed Russell to be a great thrower was that he had the incredible threat of his legs that defenses had to respect. This made it very hard to both cover the receivers as well as make sure that Russell wasn't going to burn you with his legs. He doesn't have that step anymore so he doesn't look as good as a passer Plus he's older. He's around the age where a lot of quarterbacks decline anyways. Also, it's not like Sean Payton went to super bowls every year. He went to one. Also an overrated coach

Compare Russ's numbers from this year and 10 years ago. The problem might not be Russ. When was the last time the Broncos defense gave up 70 points in a game? He wasn't Payton's man! Moving right along.

What you celebrated about Russ’s game is what wore out his welcome in Seattle, and caused his immediate departure from Denver… Russ was hesitant to throw on schedule, and relied too much upon broken plays and scramble drills to make plays… And Russ was the man with the best RB and defense in the league 👍🏽
