Hit It Bitch!
In a frankly extraordinary, must-listen, funny, poetic and heart-breaking podcast Richard interviews quintessential Englishman (take that EDL) Stephen Fry. Find out what the Spice Girls said to Prince Charles about Prince Albert, the favourite expletive of Lionel Jeffries, why Fabian is the best character in Twelfth Night, why Richard is going to graffiti Fry's grave, which women Steve wants to have sex with, Richard's clunky attempts to audition for QI (will be more of that next week). Richard's clunky attempts to refer to Mr Fry as Steve, whether you have to read The Hobbit to be in The Hobbit, the commercial possibilities of an Ann Widdecombe sex tape, what happened when the Bishop of Bath and Wells went to a prison for young offenders and the insecurity of John Travolta. Some brilliant additional questions by Ben Evans age 12. And properly poignant revelations about mental illness. It is mind-blowing and moving. If you end up killing David Cameron after this podcast then that is not our responsibility. Next week classicist Mary Beard plus QI, Not the Nine O'Clock News, Blackadder etc producer John Lloyd.

My dad was walking his dog over at the grounds of Norwich Airport and bumped into Stephen Fry. "What a magnificent creature" Stephen said towards the dog (not towards my dad) That's it. A great story I think you'll agree.

it ok but would been better if he meant your dad. Or if he'd done a innuendo like "thats a magnificent creature... the dogs not bad either" maybe bookended with an "oooh, pardon" and a mince

Much respect to stephen fry for speaking so frank about bipolar and how it affects him in black and white. My mum suffers from it and it has affected her life in a horrible way, it really is a horrific condition if not treated correctly. What I must say though is some of the mental health treatment I've seen is just totally shit, it's embarrassing how mental health is still treated and stigmatized even in 2015.

I love Stephen Fry so much - very few people have given me so much pleasure (Saturday Night Fry and, a bit of fry and laurie, Blackadder, Jeeves & Wooster , the audiobooks - to name just a few of my favorite things) without actual physical contact... But his frank and accurate description of his fight with depression makes me truly grateful. Many thanks to Richard for another amazing intreview!

I’m very grateful that Stephen moved through that dark period that I remember very clearly hearing about on a breaking news bulletin on the radio way back then and feeling so scared for him.....and speaking now from 2022, imagine the joy that we could have lost had he deprived the world of his warmth and comedy and knowledge that we’ve enjoyed these past few decades xxx He’s an international treasure, a legend, a warrior!

i really enjoy these podcasts great interviews with great guests. richard is a really likable and funny guy and should definitively be on tv all the time. having watched almost all rhlstp now this is the only thing that bugged me a little what i really don´t get is where mr. herring gets this idea that everything would be different regarding time travel scenarios. if you go back in time and do nothing at all not even stepping on a butterfly or anything, everything could be different but it doesn´t have to be. the probabilities of anything happening to anything wouldn´t change unless you influence them in a major way. the probabilities would play out the same way or not. if for example the probability of the third reich happening was a big number it probably would happen again if it was a low number it probably wouldn´t. i´d say the probability of richard beeing even more famous as he rightly deserves imo are pretty high say about 85% so if you play out that scenario again you probably would be. all i´m saying is in time travel you can allow much greater freedom than you do.

1h7m30s Heisenberg wasn't a Jew excluded from working in Nazi Germany. He was active in the Nazi atomic project and seemed to be in vocal support of the Nazis. He was accused of acting like a Jew, basically a suggestion of dissent. He had to persuade the Nazi's publicly that he supported the party. The legend has emerged that he deliberately sidelined research in neutron moderation using water or graphite to control the chain reaction, thereby leading to the failed pursuit of heavy water, which was sabotaged mysteriously by the British. There's little evidence of him acting against the project however, and the calculations cited as deliberate mistakes are not so clear cut.
