This song came to Richard in a dream, it was written, performed and produced on his Rush Street album from 1992. He joked with his now ex-wife that it was laughable and stupid but she felt it was going to be a big hit. The lyrics talk about a girl named Mary who disappeared while out on a walk in Hazard Nebraska. It was a Number 1 hit in 13 countries. Beautiful instrumentation and Richard's dynamic and passionate vocals bring the lyrics to life. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Rob. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Actually, I just checked my cd collection - this song is from his third album "Rush Street" (track 5). Maybe you're getting it confused with "Angelia", which is on "Repeat Offender"?

Oh, man, this one of my favorite songs, ever! I would put it on and repeat it and repeat it, just to carried away in the rapture of that beautifully haunting melody and arrangement. My feeling has always been that the sheriff raped and killed her and was trying to pin it on him. In real life, Marx almost didn’t release this song. He didn’t think it had any redeeming qualities, but his wife loudly objected and told him that this was one of the best songs he’d ever written. Thank you, Mrs. Marx!

No, he didn't do it, the sheriff did it. At the end it shows her telling the sheriff that they tell me I should be afraid of you, but I'm not, she gets in his car.
@Shellgrit8 ай бұрын
I don't think what she said was meant to be aimed at the sheriff. I think she said it to Richard earlier as the towns people were saying he was not right (so that's why they told her to be afraid of him) and I think it was added at the end of the song to make people second guess who did it. I do believe like you though that the sheriff killed her as she was running away from a car and the sheriff was the only one driving in the film clip

My favorite Richard Marx song. I think his character in the video was a little mentally challenged & she was his only friend. I’d have to say the sheriff did it with the scarf that got caught in the tree.

@@HarriBestReactions Lol! Just my humble opinion. The fire that happened when he was younger was an accident but he was blamed for it. The sheriff knew he was easy to frame & I feel like that’s why she says to him’ everybody says I should be scared of you but I’m not “ because he had a reputation of being unstable in the town since he was a child. By the way I said “ all of my rescues are gone “ during my mom’s eulogy. She always had my back. I guess you can tell I love to talk 🤦🏻♀️ love your reactions, like how you break it down 🙌🏻

Nope, not from a movie, but sure seems like it could have been. I want to say I read that Richard's father knew Robert Conrad, but either way, Richard became friends with him, and eventually he asked him if he would act in this video. Conrad not only agreed, he did it free of charge.

Great song. Harri, check out Dan Fogelberg's Tucson, Arizona (Gazette); similar storytelling, similarly dark...but in Hazard, the main character is being framed, while in Tucson, Arizona (Gazette) the main character does indeed kill...and then kills himself. A terrifically cinematic song, to a greater degree than Hazard is.

The sheriff for sure. I used watch this clip as a kid in the 90's and always thought he was innocent. Its about small town mentality. The town and cops hate him because he burnt the house down as a kid, and his dad was in the Army so the town would have been in favour of the dad, even though the dad left him and his mum. He felt abandoned, but it didn't make him a murderer. The cops used that against him I feel sorry for the character, and the kid. He finally found love and they killed her to make him look bad.

he left her by the river because he was out walking and saw her with another man making out in a car down there and realized she would never actually be his(seemed like Mary was very close to him and he was her best friend but she didn't have feelings for him in a romantic way, but he was completely in love with her)...there is a part II video that goes into more details and gives you a better answer as to what actually happens...IMO, Mary committed suicide after realizing there was nothing she could do to get him back and he was out of her life for good(as seen in part II). You can see her with the scarf down by the river with a distraught look on her face seemingly having tears streaming down her face looking like she was going to jump in this video...

There is a 2nd part video, there it is clearly the sheriff who is obsessed with Mary and I think he is the culprit, if you look at the patrol in the video one Mary runs out in one scene and in the river there is a close-up and The section is seen in negative, there you clearly see that it is the sheriff, Mary refused to have anything with him that is why he murdered her and blamed Richard...here I leave the video of the 2nd part! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h6lgl9CmuL-wnac.html&start_radio=1 el policia es el actor Robert Conrad

Traumatized as a kid by his Father leaving to be with another woman(maybe after seeing his Mother cheating with another man), then sees his Mother in bed with another man and is so upset he sets fire to the house with them inside it...now that I think of it...it shows what happens when Marx feels like he has been betrayed by a woman in his life...he gets revenge...first on his Mother for causing his Father to leave then possibly on Mary for "cheating" on him(even tho I think Mary saw their relationship as simply platonic friendship, Marx likely was head over heels in love with her but she didn't feel that wayabout him)
@yakanono3 ай бұрын
I think it’s cool that you think he did it. The song was never meant to absolve the narrator. The narrator could be unreliable. He either lived a traumatic life and was a victim throughout the story or he did do things he won’t admit to or can’t come to terms with.

He left her by the river because he saw her with another man and ran away from her
@robertrodriguez52837 сағат бұрын
The cop was the guilty one, because he was stalking her. The cop approached his car to find the lady and guy making out. He (the cop) was the guilty one. The other guy took off, when he saw the cops car approaching. His scarf got caught in the tree. The cop was jealous of seeing her with another man and used the other guys scarf to Strangle her to death and frame the other guy. When the officer was interrogating the younger man, he accused him of being jealous as a motive of strangling her. He himself was the real jealous one and was exposing his own guilt (trying to put it on to the other guy). The younger guy, when he was a kid (about 7 years old) was only guilty of starting a fire to his mom's home when he saw her in bed with a guy other than his father, after his father left them for another woman. It's all in the video. I missed it at first as well, because I listening to the music and not so much looking at what was happening in the video. There's a lot happening in the video. It's not easy to get it all in one watch. It takes a lot of listening and watching, or it's easy to miss the details.
