The funniest thing about this is that GI Joe actually did censor Duke being stabbed through the heart, complete with a geyser of animated blood, into his "going into a coma" and then recovering with a couple poorly dubbed lines of dialog.

That and they saw the backlash to the death of the recently released (at the time) Transformers movie with the death of Optimus Prime (among many) and didn't want to do a repeat of that. Ironcially, the Transformers movie was going to kill off Prime because Duke was going to die in the GI Joe movie.

With all the references to 4Kids in the comments, I'm wondering how many people watching this get that it's partly a joke at the GI Joe movie from the 80s, especially where Fry gets shot where a character was meant to die in the movie but was changed to "He's in a coma" because this was heading into the period where we just assumed kids couldn't handle death.

There’s an even more subtle gag to it. The original GI Joe cartoon series switched from uniformed Cobra grunts to android B.A.T.s as their foot soldiers in season 2. Sunbow wouldn’t have gotten away with mowing down masked foot soldiers, but with androids they could dismember, burn, or blow up as many as they wanted. 😅

Was I the only kid that watched THE WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS on ABC after watching THE MIGHTY ORBOTS & THE SMURFS went off? Seriously, I was an inner-city kid and they taught me about surfing, gymnastics and motocross. Those kids shows were after my Saturday-morning cartoon viewing years (1970s), but I liked Wide World of Sports, too. The opening of the show is still one of my favorites ever.

@@royrowland5763 It had that Iconic intro music and I still hum it to this day! Hearing the guy say "The THRILL of Victory or the Agony of Defeat!" when the dude on his skies falls, crashes into everything and slides downhill is one of the things that made my Saturday mornings complete. One of the few shows that brought us ALL the sports from Everywhere!
