This is the famous Richard Whiteley Gotcha from Noel's House Party. The Gotchas were basically hidden camera style practical jokes which were played on celebrities. During Comic Relief 1999, the Whiteley Gotcha was voted as the all time best one.
Enjoy!

On a very rainy day in Huddersfield, I was the only person who turned up for a book signing by Richard. He asked me to stay for a cup of tea and biscuits. We chatted in the window as the rain came down and the occasional postie scuttled by. A lovely, kind and generous man. RIP Richard

This is the first time I have seen this since it's original airing. Not only is it a classic Gotcha but it shows, not that proof was needed, what a brilliant presenter Richard was, when all we have today are fakes. He was genuine, interesting & interested, talented, natural & funny just as he was in "real" life. I remember my utter shock at hearing the news of Richard's passing and not believing it and family, friends & colleagues saying what you saw with Richard was what you got. Not only a great presenter, Richard was of course mayor of Wetwang in the East Riding of Yorkshire. R.I.P Richard, for the short time we had you, you made a huge impact.

I agree, they canned Noels House Party as it was "only" getting 8 million viewers, i remember 10 years later they mentioned this and said they would KILL to get figures like that now (10 years on). Edmonds knew how to make shows that people wanted to see. Ant & Dec Saturday night was also good as they coped Noel and said it needed to come back.

welcome to sweden here we air only sports and news about killings and deaths and ofcourse sports again. stopped watching news after they would only make way for international killings instead of relate able news in and around sweden. we don't even ave proper journalists any longer.

People have been commenting saying that the male contestant is overacting but many gameshow participants are OTT anyway so it makes it more convincing... 'only in silly programmes' is a superb quote from Richard.. I love how after the male contestant gets the numbers game rules wrong Richard makes sure they know about the rules of the conundrum

Was, seeing Richard Whiteley receiving the winners trophy from Noel Edmonds! Noel Edmonds made a joke to Richard Whiteley! And gave him the trophy for not having diarrhoea! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
