*DISCLAIMER* It has been brought to my attention that some of my footage may not be compliant with FAA regulations. I'm not saying it was this video in particular; I'm including this disclaimer on ALL of my US drone videos. It was my honest belief that if the controller allowed you to fly, then you were doing so legally, or else the drone would not be able to take off. This is of course incorrect; the controller (at least DJI controllers) give you warnings to make sure you went through the proper channels to get authorization. It's basically the honor system. Though I think some of the FAA's regulations are unnecessary and overly stringent, I also never intended to blatantly disregard drone laws. I've only been trying to bring you the most spectacular footage I could while operating my drone in a safe manner. All this to say, further videos will be compliant with FAA regulations, and please be sure to gain proper authorization when flying in a restricted area. Thank you, and have a nice day!
Richmond, Virginia is a beautiful, walkable, historic city with gorgeous architecture and plenty to do! It's a wonderful city to explore, whether you're flying a drone above the rooftops or walking its shaded streets.

Watched your Charlotte drone video has nothing at all on your Richmond video you would never know Charlotte was bigger Richmond has more of a northern city infrastructure and northern city vibe to it Charlotte is More like a southern Town in my opinion Richmond more upbeat and vibrant Charlotte slow and serene.

I agree! The Fan and the Museum District are some awesome old school urban environments. So is Jackson Ward. Parts of Chimborazo are nice too. It's got some really cool areas!

Richmond is soooo underrated one of the best cities in America tons to do and see not to slow not to fast just right has a north eastern feel to it without the Northeastern cost of living perfect location right down the road from DC 4 hrs away from Philly 5 hrs away from New York City Amazing place so much to explore I love Rva and I love your video The best drone video on KZfaq ❤ 😍 💖 ❣ 💕 💘 ❤ 😍 💖 ❣ 💕 💘 ❤

I'm originally from NY, and have lived in Richmond since December 1993 (exactly a year after living in VA Beach). While I miss NY, I love it down here. (I live in East Henrico.) It's beautiful, even relaxing to see an aerial view of places I love to walk around to!

I agree! It's a decent size, but it really shines when you explore the river and the parks around it. It actually has good density and walkability for a city its size, but it also doesn't try to be super super big.

@@9to5Drone That was a BIG fire. The roof was slate & it was falling off, scalding hot. I-95 was shut down a day or 2.

It's a very good video. It's an enviable shoot. In Japan, it is not possible to take aerial photographs without the permission of the country. (You may not fly without permission unless you have a specific purpose or reason.) Law on Flight of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles in Richmond, Virginia Do you have various things?

Thank you! Wow, that's pretty stringent 😮 I know in Colombia you had to get permission to fly in Cartagena because it was close to an airport. In the US, you do need to register your craft with the FAA, *unless* it weighs less than 250 grams. Luckily, my DJI Mavic Mini comes in at 249 grams and so I don't need to. Do you mean other videos? Yes, I have several!

Plan to fly a drone in Richmond. What are the laws now on drone flying in the area and which areas are safe.

If you use a DJI drone you can open the DJI app and see where the best fly spots are. I think downtown is generally limited to 120m, with the space above the state capitol off-limits. Other than that should be able to fly as you wish! Are you also asking which areas are safe as in where can you park? Because that's a separate question...

@@series25a Hey sorry about the wait. So, disclaimer: I'm not a Richmond native, I don't know everything about this city, and I'm not trying to offend anybody's neighborhood. Having said that, I've been living here a minute and I can give you a very general idea. IN GENERAL: I would avoid pretty much all of the Southside, with the exception of Manchester and Forest Hill. Not just as a safety issue but also in terms of what you'd actually want to film anyway. The farther south you go in Richmond city it does get very high crime. If you're in an area that ends in "Court," (Gilpin Court, Whitcomb Court, etc.) or that has an RRHA sign up you probably don't want to be there (I used to work in both those communities, they're public housing). Church Hill North and that area is kinda iffy but it's getting better. Same for pretty much all of Chamberlayne Ave. Generally speaking, the West End is not only going to be the safest, but also the most interesting to film.The Fan and the Museum District are wonderful. As far as where to park: I like to park at Great Shiplock Park because you can get the river, Ancarrow's Landing, and Downtown/Shockoe. You can also park near Belle Isle and walk over with your stuff so you can get footage of the park and the river. I think over by Gamble's Hill Park by the Civil War Museum would also be a good place. The Carillon neighborhood has a neat belltower you should get and you can get some of the neighborhood itself. If you're looking for downtown shots, there's plenty of parking. Just be aware that of course with any downtown area, there's going to be some interference. The thing about Richmond is that it doesn't have a huge, epic skyline like bigger cities and it doesn't have mountains or anything like that in the background. But it DOES have some very, VERY cool neighborhood architecture, especially from the street level. The river is very nice, too. What I'm saying is sometimes you may just need to park in the middle of a place and fly up from there in order to get the most detailed shots. With respect to those who live there, of course. And just to clarify, because certain things have been brought to my attention and shown me just how limited my knowledge was, I would definitely check the local maps just to be SURE of where you can and can't fly without a waiver.

@@truebetold65 They def are not about the same size. Richmond has a little over 200,000 and Bmore has 700,000 plus. Richmond does look like a bigger city than most of it's size though. I've lived here for about 8 years now and have come to feel like it's home. Unfortunately there is still a lot of crime depending where you are.

I'm a traveler around of the world and I think Richmond is very unique and beautiful, it just has a stigma that some of America won't let go. One of its true sizes can be seen when one is driving on 95 North.

Very nice video. But as a Richmond native, this city is actually really terrible to live in. I've lived in Richmond my whole life until recently moving to Pittsburgh, PA and I can say for sure that the city administration in Pittsburgh actually tries to take care of the city. Richmond officials just soak up a salary and do nothing for the citizens. Shameful, Richmond could be so much better if it weren't for ignorant and careless people.

It's a shame Richmond doesn't clean well. Somehow he looks untidy. And why are these awful huge flowerpots, really you can't put smaller and more beautiful ones. And the roads are somewhere cracked, somewhere patched up. The mayor should be scolded for running the city like that.

I mean, the same could be said of many cities. There are simply bigger issues to take care of. I will agree with you though that those roads need some work!
