For being recorded in 2003 and very much carrying the same feel as the rest of Meteora, it’s kind of crazy how modern this song manages to sound. Linkin Park’s songwriting is timeless.

I agree, but this isn't the original 2002 Mix, the original mix sounds a lot more like Meteora.

Mike Shinoda already said in the interview that it wasn't a remix or rearrange. He also said that what are we hearing is exactly how it sound 20 years ago, the only reason they didn't put it in Meteora because it sounds similiar to Numb, so they had to choose which one to keep and obviously, we got Numb.@@speedyginger2219

I’m an Aussie mum, much older, than you so never had this band at a time in my life when I needed them as a teenager. But they have been there for me as an adult at,times when I was struggling with depression. Losing Chester really knocked me, and I lived through the losses of the great Bon Scott and Steve Clark from Def Leppard, losses which I still feel to this day. Chester’s loss though was the worst in years and I like millions of others will always grieve for him and his suffering but am also grateful that I was alive at the same time as he was, to hear that voice. But also hearing this voice now, after losing him, feels like a kick in the guts then a kiss on the cheek at the same time. Hard to listen to but impossible not to. Made my heart ache. Miss that man and that voice.

I remember being on the bus going to school listening to hybrid theory and the meteora albums on my CD player. They were 100% a gateway that brought me into the world of great music I listen to now. I mostly just listen to Metallica, A7X, Iron Maiden. Those kind of bands, but I will never forget what Linkin Park did for me as a child going through what I have been through.

As a linkin park fan for over 20 years, even when they were known as hybrid theory before becoming LP, and performing ‘Papercut’ at my 8th grade talent show (I did Mike’s part cause I can’t touch Chester’s vocals) .. hearing this made me cry like a baby all while jumping around with the energy and crowd presence he had at live shows. They’re my favorite band of all time. If you know you know, RIP to the goat CHESTER THE CHEETAH BENNINGTON!

I was waiting for them to finally release it. and as soon as I heard it, the very first notes of the song took me back 20 years. as soon as Chester started singing. his voice immediately gave me chills. I heard it at home in the living room. as if I found myself in an alternate space and Chester was asleep there. I couldn't contain my emotions several times during the song. I thought to myself. I've never seen that guy in my life, how can something affect me so emotionally? his entire suffering is contained in that composition. I confess, if I had heard this song at the time Meteora released it, I would not have understood the message. but now that I have experienced depression and anxiety myself. just like all of us, more difficult situations in life, whether in the family, work, or the loss of a loved one. the moment I heard his voice vividly, I felt that he understood me. it is a great pity that he left us. but he left behind a beautiful creation, thanks to which it is alive forever. Chester Bennington

So it's time for me to finally talk about why Linkin Park are so important to me. I've tried not to think about it since Chester's passing because of how deep seated and integral they were to me growing up and to my musical persona. All the bands prior to LP that I had grown up listening to were amazing (Nirvana, Tool, Radiohead, RHCP) - but at the time they felt like other people's music that was popular and fantastic but I was listening to it then because others had listened to them prior to me. LP were the first band that I chose, they were for me, they made music that expressed exactly how I was feeling and they were the absolute cornerstone of my musical development. They were an absolute powerhouse, no-one else came close to them while they were releasing Hybrid Theory, Reanimation, Meteora, Live in Texas (my most watched music dvd ever, it's so epic) and Collision Course. I can still remember where I was when I bought each of those albums and listened to them for the first time....not something I can say for any other band I've listened to (and my musical library is vast by now). They were definitely my gateway into harder metal, but they had this unbelievable talent of making what might seem to others like harder sounding guitar riffs (in their sound, not technicality) and make them appealing to a global mainstream audience. I have so many friends (including my wife) who love LP but won't listen to any other harder rock/metal. They were a once in a lifetime band in terms of their reach and what they did on a global level (brining metal, hip/hop, just normal popular audiences together) - and I thank you LP and Chester for everything you've done and brought to my life. You will be remembered above all others.
