A look back at Dwight 'Dynamite' Davison, once rated as the number one middleweight contender in the early 1980s. NOTE: This is a re-upload. I added in a few more photos as well as the Charlie Boston fight which isn't on KZfaq.

One of the most unusual fighting styles Rich, I do remember Davison, remember the Sibson fight on TV as Sibson was a big prospect back in the eighties in the UK. Davison reminded me of the way George Foreman fought, sort of a straight up high guard and throwing big looping punches, he was just not aggressive enough, Emmanuel Steward must of had some confidence in him though, I think if Davison had been at the Kronk gym earlier in his career Steward would of improved him as he liked his boxers to be more aggressive. On a small note, the press note at the end was priceless Rich, top right hand piece, James Toney winning one of his very early fights, what a piece of boxing history. Nice one Rich, very enjoyable as always. 🥊👏

I remember him! I also remember being highly disappointed at the Sibson fight. He showed nothing and acted like he had somewhere else he had to be. It’s pretty sad that someone so highly ranked is barely remembered except by aficionados. He had some thing working against him: he was a Detroit fighter NOT affiliated with Kronk when it mattered; not always the most crowd-pleasing style; and as I have been saying half-jokingly for years…he had NO NICKNAME! From the early 70s through the early 90s, you couldn’t be a credible middleweight without a nickname: Marvelous Marvin, Willie the worm, Bad Bennie, Bobby Boogaloo Watts, Frank the Animal Fletcher, John the Beast Mugabi, Juan Domingon Roldan, the Executioner, and the Dark Destroyer. Even guys who weren’t top contenders who had great nicknames are still remembered to day: Hard Rock Green andVampire Johnson. Dwight Davison? Nada. Sadly, he beat some top contenders and really tough fighters, but losing to guys like Robbie Epps and Sibson was unthinkable.

This isn't the first fighter to fight lackadaisical under don king. I always thought he should of won his fights with epps and sibson. I think since bob arum promoted hagler he wasn't going to let don king near hagler hence davisons "losses ".just my opinion.
