I was working Glasto at the time. (Paramedic) My boss bless her, got wind of this set and sent me to cover it as she knew I'm a Smiths nut. I'm forever in her dept. for doing so, as no word of a lie, this was up there as one of the best sets I've ever had the pleasure of watching/hearing, this includes gigs by the REAL smiths back in the day. It's fair to say quite a few jaws dropped when those that we're more than a little dubious to begin with saw it, as who saw this coming really! (Other than the lucky sods that got to see them try it out in London and Manchester) Lost count of the amount Smiths fans faces my age, I watched go from "Hmmm" to "Hold on..." to "Oh hell yes!" by the end of the 1st song! And they definitely were smiling by the time Rick rang out the "Ahhh's" of what difference does it make, (hence the cheers) Don't think I saw a single person in the vast crowd without a stupidly sized grin on there face by the end of it all. It would be all to easy to get far to serious about this set if your a die hard Smiths fan like me. But I LOVE the fact Rick and the Blossoms did it simply because they could, for fun and that there all of them, BIG smiths fans themselves. It showed thanks to the fact there all bloody good musicians in there own right.
