@@a4ur8 Well said. I don't know if Heaven exists, but if it does then I know that Vin is there. He will be able to once again talk with players who he hasn't seen for years if not decades. And as you so eloquently said, it will always be time for Dodger baseball. Sounds like a great place indeed.

Vin is the voice of my childhood. Legend and icon are tossed around. But Vin as I have always said is the closest thing we'll ever be to hearing what God sounds like. I'm 37 and Vin was more than an announcer at my house he was part of my family. I always dreaded this day coming and as soon as Joe said we have some sad news I knew and cried. Thank you for everything you did for our boys in blue. Thank you for bringing my family close. Rest easy my beloved Vin

My very first memory of Vin was in the mid 60’s sitting with my Uncle Dan who was a decorated WWI veteran on the back porch of his trailer home in West Covina listening to Vin Scully call the game on the radio. It doesn’t happen very often these days, but I still will find myself listening to a baseball game on the radio in my car and I realize again how great it it is to hear baseball called on the radio.

Vin was my favorite since I was ten years old in Brooklyn. He was amazing and was the Dodgers voice. We loved that he was a lip reader and would tell what was being said during screaming matches between umpire vs manager. “Fertilizer!” Instead of “B_____it!”. When the Dodgers retreated to the left coast, the only times I saw Vin afterward was when he did World Series games and I enjoyed his work. Especially when my newer favorites, the Mets, played in 1986 series. He was a gem.

Growing up in Michigan, we felt this same sense of loss when Ernie Harwell passed back in 2010. I know what you’re feeling right now because as sad as I was when Ernie passed, I feel just as sad over the loss of Vin Scully 😥😞 I didn’t have the luxury of listening to Scully call Dodger games like you lucky folks did in SoCal all those wonderful years. But we did get to see Scully call nationally broadcast games on NBC back in the 1970’s and 1980’s. I was amazed to come across an NFL game on CBS from the 70’s and to hear Scully calling the action! I never knew that he did football games too! I’m also sad today because Scully was the last living link to those classic old-school broadcasters such as Harwell, Harry Caray, Mel Allen, Jack Brickhouse, Jack Buck, and others from that era. RIP Vin 💔 we will all miss your voice and your dedication to the Dodgers, both in Los Angeles and in the early days in Brooklyn

I can never forget that night in Coors field the only no hitter in that stadium. September 1996, Hideo Nomo pitched a no hitter and vin Scully said..."Got em!! Nomo did the only thing cannot be done, not in the mile high stadium, not at Coors Field! He not only pitched a shutout he has pitched a no hitter, and thank goodness they saw it in Japan." Classic Vin.

I can remember as a kid watching Dodgers games on tv and if Vin wasn’t calling the game, we’d turn the sound off and turn on the radio. It just wasn’t the same without hearing his voice. For me, his greatest call was the greatest moment in Dodgers history; Kirik Gibson’s home run in the 1988 World Series.

Vin Scully was to baseball and to sports as cracker jacks, apple pie, peanuts, popcorn, hot dogs, and everything else in between, he was the voice of reason, he was a voice who brought Joy to the world through Sports of any kind, no matter if it was baseball, or football, or any kind of sport even sumo. He could make you feel energetic. We share with all fans especially in Los Angeles today and abroad, our sense of loss too. We feel just as you feel, a sense of grief, a sense of appreciation, and a sense of pride. Before he became famous, he was a New Yorker, but when he did sports, he became a living treasure to all of us. There will never be another like him ever, he was one of a kind, and the type of mold of inspiration to Future journalists and sports commentators and so forth. Particularly this one who recently graduated from Bergen Community College who inspires to become a broadcasting journalist and more. Good night dear sir, good and faithful servant, May flights of Angels Sing t h e e to thy rest, we have the watch from here and we will continue to cheer on and enjoy baseball knowing that you left your imprint upon history in sports.

It’s EASY to understand why Rick Monday felt this way. He got to know Mr. Scully as a player and then as someone in the profession working right beside him. These times and situations are inevitable yet they have a way of making us ask ourselves how we want to be remembered and are we doing enough for our fellow man. As a Dodger fan of forty five years, I’m thankful Mr. Scully was a part of my life for that long.

I am 56 and tears cant be held back as some of my best times/memories as a child was watching Dodgers baseball with my Father (first game ever watched was Dodgers at Mets 1969 ), brother and my friends, trading baseball cards. Hearing Vinnies voice in the spring was the signal for spring to begin ~ "Hello everybody I am Vin Scully along with Ross Porter and Jerry Dogget~ It's time for Dodger baseball"..Vin is now calling play by play for God with insight ,integrity and class l One of my best memories is the summer of 77 , It was on a Sunday morning and fair weather..I was visiting my friend Luis Suarez to watch the Dodgers game at his house (El Monte ,California). Before the game, we are outside tossing the ball around ..hitting the ball and practicing on how to bat/pose/swing the bat like Steve Garvey,Ron Cey ,Davey Lopes and Dusty Baker...Watch Dodgers at Astros in Houston (Yes Astros where originally in the N.L. before Selig screwed it all up) have lunch and trade baseball cards....fun~A time when kids were let to be kids not unlike today cramming down CRT, Gender Identity ,Racial Equity (what ever the hell that is) and Pronouns!

I will miss you, Vin. Though I never met you, I had a 50+ year relationship with you. I was a wide eyed 10-year old boy when I walked into Dodger Stadium for the first time back in June 1970. How many wonderful stories did I hear from you during all those years? How many rookies did I get to know because of the anecdotal stories you told? They would start out as strangers taking their cuts in the batter's circle, but by the time they reached home plate, we knew something interesting about them, thanks to you. While I am very sad to lose you, I am very blessed to have grown up in Los Angeles in the 60s and 70s thanks to you. May God welcome you with open arms, and may you be reunited with all your loved ones who have passed before you.

As sad as this announcement was, there was a certain poetry to hearing the telltale sounds of baseball in the background while Rick Monday spoke. The chatter of the crowd, the crack of the bat, the PA announcer, the ball hitting the catcher's mitt, the umpire calling a strike, there couldn't have been a better sendoff for the greatest to ever do it.

My favorite name to hear him pronounce was Von Joshua. Favorite game moment was listening to him describe the search for Bill Sudakis’ lost contact lens! Sudsy, 3rd base coach and umpire on their hands and knees, no less! It also just occurred to me that we never heard the game interrupt a story. If he was telling a story, it was secondary to the game. And I never once thought we were really getting robbed because their was no color commentator. On the contrary, we were enriched.

Dodger players, managers, and owners came and went, but it was Vinny that was the one constant throughout the years. As a lifelong Dodger fan who grew up listening to Vin Scully call Dodger games, this loss cuts deep. But as Vinny so aptly quoted Dr. Seuss: “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”

The best I can do is occasionally smile through the tears. I was 8 when the Dodgers came West, I'm 72 now and Vinny is undeniably a part of who I am. I've both laughed and cried with him, and wondered at his ability to make it truly feel like the two of us were sitting together in a room and watching the game.
