After seeing how little impact Guts had against Griffith, that slap takes on new levels of epic.

Also considered Rickert outside Gutz and Casca the only other living survivor (don’t count Griffith he’s not human anymore) from the original Band of the Hawk. Even if he wasn’t there at the sacrifice event it wasn’t for lack of want or cowardice. He’s what’s good in the world that everyone should protect amongst others.

This is why I love this book all the characters are so well thought out and written; there’s no waste everyone one is ancillary and Rickard is a great example he’s much more than the guy that fixes guts equipment and evens the playing field for him; he’s so important for so many reason just like everyone else

I think important thing about Rickerts introduction is the crossbow, it isn't any crossbow, but a "chu ko nu", a REAL repeating crossbow. It's such a small detail, but that is a very interesting (and likely foreign to Midland) weapon. Later he used that over/under double crossbow, maybe because chu ko nu doesn't really pack a punch.

I hope Rickert will accompany Guts to help rescue Casca and will survive long enough to take down Griffith. He and Guts are like brothers in my opinion

During the eclipse, after Skull Knight took out Guts and Casca, one of the God Hand said that they are not gods and cannot perceive perfectly the future. My guess is that Griffith did not see the slap coming. My understanding of that meeting is a lot less esoteric than the mainstream explanation (Rickert being outside of Griffith's story). By the way, you implied that the slap did hurt Griffith. I doubt Griffith was hurt. At most, he was startled.

I don’t think he actually did any actual damage to Griffith. If he back handed slapped him with a gauntlet like in “Men in Tights” then maybe he could have done damage. Though it shows some character growth that he calls Griffith out on his devious behavior and plans.

Just saying this cause I havent seen anyone else say this. Rickert slapped griffith likely due to the fact there was no malice or hate in it. Guts' will kill griffith only when he changes and abandons his hate or Zodd will let guts kill him after he loses to guts in a fight, his blood allowing the Dragonslayer to kill griffith. Latter just seems to have less character development and doesnt seem like something Miura would do unless he couldnt figure out how Guts would change.
