Every time I watch a berserk lore video I get sad knowing that Kentaro Miura will never be able to finish his story. RIP to a great storyteller.

Bruh Slan is like the goddess of all those girls who say they are “empaths”. She constantly goes off about feeling what others are feeling. The stronger the emotion the more she likes it. Any emotion, she loves them all. She REALLY loves emotions.

Personally I think voids past is being told through Griffiths and Guts’ story. Griffith is “miraculously” uniting all people under him, meanwhile guts is the new owner of the berserk armor who is opposing him. If fate works as a spiral, then Griffith is the old king and the skull knight is guts. Void is the oldest of the new god hand BUT the youngest of the old god hand 1000 years ago. Just like Griffith is the newest of the god hand now. Just my theory

A lot of people seem to get this wrong: don't let Griffith's grandiosity and ambition convince you he didn't care for the Hawks and only saw them as tools/ammunition. He genuinely cared for them, and chose ascension over them. If he didn't, they wouldn't work as a sacrifice.

I think ubik was beheaded. He looks about the proportions of a severed head that activated the behelit in its last moments of consciousness, and upon transformation grew hands and some tentacles out the neck stump.

Love the obvious Hellraiser influences these creepy characters were based off of! Anime/manga takes existing concepts from folklore and pop culture then add new layers of meaning we as an audience never forget!

Something interesting i realized is that the hellbound heart came out in 1986 and berserk and the first hellraiser film both came out 1987. So, although they were developed much more later, its a strange synchronicity that these two very similar groups of characters, cenobites and godhand, were both conceived of independently on opposite sides of the world, guess it was just the vibe, lol

I see Ubik being more similar to Butterball than I do to Chatterer. That being said, I appreciate the depth of the discussion, as I love both of these franchises.

I just want to remind something. Remember the Tower of Conviction arc, the rescue of Griffith? We literally have panels that show us the deepest possibly depth of the tower, which is filled with what?; dead bodies with the brand of Sacrifice on them. Maybe Void did get tortured there and got to the brink of despair and called the godhand, sacrificed the kingdom (maybe because he was the right hand of the king so the kingdom was something precious to him) of Gaiseric (Skull Knight) and ever since Skull Knight has lived for revenge with hatred. The kingdom gets 'killed', destroyed, then the plague starts and boom: Conrad became the second member of the godhand. We have an interaction with the dwarf who crafted the Berserker armor with the Skull Night and the former said something like 'you are laughing from inside a tomb' I think suggesting that Skull Night's physical body died (which off course is verified through Gedfring because he said he is a daemon). I think he became one through the use of Berserker Armor. Why was he in love with an Elven maid?; When Puck sees the Skull Knight for the first time he says that SK made him feel like he was an elf: so Skull Night may have been an Elf who had taken the human form - with the magic word that is given to them and which should not been told to anybody as Ivalera said - and fell in love with Dannan while he was living in the Elf Island and then the King of Midland who brought every nation together on the continent. Furthermore, I think as Charlotte said, nobody seems to know the origins of the Skull King Gaiseric: how would anyone know if he was from the Elf Island which inaccessible to physical beings like humans? Lastly, elves are known to be always happy, alwaus want to play, have fun: King Gaiseric went astray and engaged in pleasures all the time, omitting the duties of the kingdom, thus the reaction of Void.

great video, it is really nice to see more people talk and be interested in berserk, its not just a cartoon/manga, it deals with alot of philosophical things, and the human experience that you don't see whole lot on.

Also, Conrad and Ubik drew the short stick when it came to ascending. Out of all the forms of a god they could take on, they ended up being a fatso and mini octopus…😅 I feel like they becoming Godhand members were lackluster compared to Slan, Void and Fempto

Slan is known as "Hore princes of the Uterine Sea" so its said that she was a princess that was very sexual and would go out to soldiers camps to meet her desires ... doing so she destroyed her mind and body with mental and physical disease... she finally broke and became a god hand. Void is the saint that Supreme king Gyseric tortured in the tower and he was the one to destroy the kingdom and King Gyseric became the skull knight and that's why he hates the demons especially Void so much.

Love the analysis and speculative theories in the vid. I never even thought about the whole Skull Knight actually being the Sage and Void being Geisrick one, verrrrry interesting. :P I love this series and think it is one of the best pieces of media period! Such an incredible story with equally as fantastic characters and villains. I'm so excited/relieved the manga will continue so we can get some damn answers about these evil f**ks. ;) and cannot wait to see the conclusion to it all. RIP Kentaro Miura, your storytelling and world building are nearly unmatched, and really hope that Mori and Studio Gaga can write the rest of the manga seamlessly, like Miura produced it himself. Big props to them for taking the reins and for the ending of Fantasia though.

There is also a lot of esoteric ideas in Berzerk, for example that especially collective.. human mind can bring something into excistence (kinda like in American Gods). It comes apparent in the published and then scrapped for revealing too much chapter of Griffith's transforming. Even like Junji Ito's Sensor was aa lot about esoteric ideas, for example akashic records isn't his idea but a pre-excisting theory. It's mixed in with other themes of beleif like religion and a cult but somehow I see so many who didn't like it (which is ok) thinking that it is a story about cults when it's mainly used as a plot-device to move certain things along. Goes into it a little bit but not really under surface level.

the god hand's names also come from other media, usually books. slan is most likely from a book of the same name where slans were evolved humans. ubik comes from a novel from philip k dick about a reality altering substance called ubik. conrad comes from a book called And Call Me Conrad (don't know much about this one). void might just be a reference to void (nothingness) itself. since he was the first god hand and started it all, like the big bang did our universe which seems to have come from nothing (that's my interpretation at least). femto is a weird one since the word femto is a number: 10 to the power of -15, a very very small value (0.0000000000000001)

Ubik kinda looks like that noble/spy master that worked with the queen to attempt to kill Griffith with a poison crossbow bolt. But eventually switches sides in the end since its clear with the look in Griffiths eyes that he knows everything. Hence he escaped death by leaving the room his co-conspirators were in before they all burned to death. So I'm going with the supposition that Ubik is a descendant of that person's house.

Was thinking about the count, perhaps the count really loved his wife, but maybe his wife was forced into that marriage, forced to repress her feelings and be a "good" wife, give birth to a child she didnt want and so when discovering the cult all that pent up frustration made her a prime target. what i would really recommend to get a better idea of who the different god hand members are is also to read the books they are all named after. they are all named after classic science fiction books that are tied to who their character is and represents. for instance ubik is an actually being and idea in the book ubik which is basically the one from berserk. same with the immortal from the book call me conrad that conrad is named after. this immortal tells the story of a being like void. the book slan connected to slan. they all have to do with ideas of immortality. its also worth mentioning the intense influence of gnostic philosophy in the writing of berserk. that is relevent with the gnostic idea of archons which the godhand resonate with.

My theories: Slan was a Nun. An individual along the lines of Pope Joan. Given that the Faith of the Holy See in the world of Berserk is based on Christianity, specifically Roman Catholicism, of whose religious leaders, i.e. Pope(s), have never been women in all of history, even though Nuns have a strong role in the said faith. Slan tried to be one, and had a fall so ghastly to be on par with Griffith's, for a commoner, Griffith or not, could never marry a princess, a woman, Slan or not, could never be Pope. The legend of Pope Joan also originates around the later centuries leading up to the 1st Millennium, when the Vatican was infamous for it's extravagances and debaucheries, a setting in which Slan would fit perfectly. Ubik was a Shakespeare. He was a man who entertained the people with his storytelling prowess, for he is the one to show Griffith his visions, like a play, with masks and characters. Given that the Medieval Times had people of artistic endeavours, like all times, they were subject to harsh forms of censorships, before a word for a such an action even existed. Like any creator devoted to his work, he would be against the idea of being censored, which is not possible no matter where you go in that time. He might be a reference to figures like Beethoven as well, for we never see his eyes, which might be a reference to him going blind when alive, a fatal disability for someone in playwriting. He wears glasses, which might symbolise it, like Griffith's torture helmet, or Void's face. I agree with you on Conrad. A doctor. Maybe during the time of the Black Death, but I lean towards the Justinian Plague, which happened during the year all historians consider the worst year in history. Yet somehow, he reminds me of Nostradamus, I do not know why. Void was the sage, not Gaiseric (Skull Knight). Griffith is the successor to Gaiseric, and Guts to Void. The Red Behelit is called the Egg of the King, not God. Additionally, Griffith is still not a God Hand technically, for all his sacrifices are yet to die (Guts and Casca), and a physical manifestation might be to his detriment rather than advantage. There are the only two branded people to be alive, perhaps like the sage and Gaiseric's lover were. Like the sage, Guts might be given the choice by the Idea of Evil (or something similar for it's non-canon now) to ascend just like Void did a thousand years ago, for his very existence goes against the deterministic nature of the world since birth, as (not) planned by the World. Guts again breaks the flow of causality and rejects the Idea, unlike Void, where perhaps a true divergence begins. Well it's just a theory. A Berserk theory.
