If you pay close attention he's just speaking on things Bobby did that frustrated the entire group but overall he's acknowledging how great Bobby was and showing humility by admitting he, along with the group were a bit jealous and that takes courage. Much respect to Ricky Bell and his beautiful Queen!

Bobby wasn't great until he went on his own. He has one really successful album, because the songs were written by Babyface and LA Reid. They gave him a whole new look to go with the songs. People forget he wasn't successful until his second album, since his first album only had one successful song - Girlfriend.

I hope the next segments are more about Ricky. He’s definitely an underrated R and B singer. It would be dope if someone asked him about his solo career. He did drop an album in the early 2000s. His wife is there because they did a project together (pretty dope). On other interviews she’s more vocal. In this case she wasn’t asked anything as of yet. She’s being cool about it, but I know she’s pissed. Hopefully Vlad will ask her something. The early New Edition drama is in the movie. No need to repeat. I’m sure it will get better as it goes along. We’ll see
@chuckiedavidson9950

I think the reason his solo career didn't take off is because no one would back him financially. Honestly he was in his early 30's at the time and he had already done New Edition and BBD. He had so much success previously. I think Nee Edition should have used him and Bobby more instead of running Ralph into the ground.

There's multiple variables in this situation. I guess as artists, they still r human and they still go through hell outside of music, but I guess music and being on stage was Bobby's comfort zone. Like remember in his biopic when he was a kid his friend died really young? Don't forget, that same day, was his grandmother's funeral. So his trauma started really early. Music can really help people express their deepest feelings and help say things they had a hard time saying. Also , in music groups, there's always that one group member that everyone goes nuts over. It's almost as if the other members don't even exist. In this case, the member every one went nuts over was Ralph. Maybe he just didn't want to be stuck in Ralph's shadow. Maybe he didn't want to be stuck in any of their shadows, he could've just felt that way as the youngest member.

Groups that NE would have to contend with...as far as the best R&b vocal groups ...To me Are those who weren't really playing instruments on stage... strictly singers.Doo wops.... but had producers.. The Ojays,The Whispers,The Spinners,The Temptations,The Dramatics,Four tops, The Dells,Chi-Lites,The Manhattans, The Isleys..prior to the lil brothers joining in 1973...so many others. And I'm not gonna include 90s r&b acts like The Boys,Hi-Five,Jodeci,Shai,Silk,Boys II men H-Town... NE Was special in the sense..that teenage r&b acts in the 80s we're far and few between... Ralph Tresvant was singing like Michael Jackson from the Jackson 5.. In the 80s...when I think of best R&b acts..they don't cross my mind.. Sos band,Loose ends, Sade,Midnight Star..Hell..Everything at Solar Records was slamming, Cameo was hitting,Kool and the Gang with JT was hitting..I'm missing alot forgive me... Now Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis took their sound to an Adult level with NE Heartbreak.. Just like Larry Blackmon,LA and Babyface, and Teddy Riley took Bobby Brown to adult levels..not the bubble gum pop from NE prior.. Altho Mr.Telephone man is my favorite song that they done and that was produced by my boy Ray Parker Jr.. It has his sound all over it.. Johnny Gill had a career before joining NE...alot of people forget that..He did albums with Stacy Lattisaw..and solo work.. Michael Bivins took Rick and Ron to a new level with BBD.. NE has their place in music history...but to say the greatest R&B group??? Idk about that..

I never bought this - Bobby was a wild boy in the group, but he was a wild boy solo too. If he was that much of a liability live that management wanted him out of the group he would've been dropped from the label, not given a solo deal and the opening slot on NE's Heart Break Tour. We've all seen how the industry acts when they actually want to blackball someone. I wouldn't be surprised if the real story was that Bobby got plucked from the group by MCA Records top brass because he had serious star power and they knew he would do better solo. The headlines about being kicked out for drug use and bad behavior were planted to amp up his bad boy image that made him seem so different from NE.
