Absolutely deserved- never backed down from a challenge. I think the thing overlooked by many, was the fact that Ricky won for seven different teams- not one or two, but seven.

Ned Jarrett once said of all the people that was intimidated by Dale Earnhardt Ricky Rudd wasn’t one of them. For that matter none of the old guard was Pearson,Petty,Yarborough,DW and also Terry Labonte, Rusty Wallace, Harry Gant etc.

My all-time favorite driver. Fierce competitor. Drove two of the coolest pain schemes ever-Tide and Havoline. And I saw two of his wins in person- Pocono and Richmond. Circumstances just never lined up for him to win a title but more than deserving of the Hall of Fame given his career achievements. Super happy for him.

My Father was a bodyman at Poquoson Motors in Hampton Va, and Ricky used to run Karts and motorcycles, met him while he was delivering Used Auto Parts From Al Rudd Used Auto in Chesapeake Va. Ricky is a touch sob thats for sure.. nothing but repsect for him and his family, thankful Bill Champion had a hand at helping Ricky get started in Cup.

Love this channel. Every car Rudd drove got better. To me the 6 wins in modern era as the last successful truly independent owner driver put sets him apart from others with similar stats. Elliott with a ton more $ wasn't able to win any with his own team. Got to meet him a few times, one of the nicest guys ever, very happy for him to receive this honor.

Thanks guys. I remember, it must have been 1988, and I would go over to the fourth turn at Daytona for lunch and watch the testing/practice and Ricky Rudd was lapping in the primer Buick (Quaker State?) at like 194mph? It was so cool and it didn't cost anything. Great times. 👍🏁

One thing about Ricky as a racer he always seemed like a nice gentleman outside the car. But man when you got him behind the wheel and the situations got tense, he would fight like a wild dog in that race car. He had that killer instinct behind the wheel. When it came to a chance to win, he didn't play nice, he wasn't a dirty racer but he would dang sure get up on the wheel come money time. Much deserved to be in the HOF. Rudd was involved in a ton of memorable races. All the way from duct tape holding his eyes open in 1984 to Harvick's little "Yap Yap" mouth in 2004.

My favorite driver. I remember an interview with Dale Earnhardt and they asked him which driver he would RIDE in the same car with around the track at 200mph. He said he would prefer not to ride with any of "them guys", but if you forced him, he would pick Ricky Rudd.

Its obviously the "Hall of Popularity" Nothing against Rudd, much respect for him!! Other's in HOP for popularly and not merits. So many others in various "levels" nowhere close to wearing a ring. ??? Big Bill would have a cardiac arrest if he saw how this has played out. (A fan from '74-'01, observer since, crewmember in 80's-90's) Disgusted the past number of years.

@@RAEckart22 You assumed wrong...... A Championship winning driver is obviously HOF material. But then again, a Championship is not necessary to be in, popularity IS. So many talented "Nascar" Winston Racing Series (multiple) track Champions/Regional/National Champions NOT even considered, as well as the Modified circut, Winston West, Budweiser Late Model, BGN.... What IS Nascar? Oh, the "BIG" boys. M. Martin, Davey, Donnie, Baker and now Rudd. You cannot deny it's popularity. 20 wins and your in. What about 100 wins in LMS? You're who? Did you race on Sunday? Oh...... Don't know ya, but we remember a Mark, Davey, Donnie, Buddy and Ricky. Also remember DK, Wawak, Marcus, Means, Hylton, JD, Arrington, Thomas, May and Elmo. Without them, there NEVER would have been a full field on Sunday. I guess it's like the Rock and Roll HOF, but not..... One hit wonders get in it. Politics keep some greats out. My opinion is unwanted, and I digressed to this point. I helped make the Frances' Billionaires, as both a fan and paying competitor license fees for years, and got kicked in the balls by them as a thanks.

Sad that NASCAR has not put Harry Gant in the hall of fame, Harry did not start full time in Cup until he was 39 years old, an age when most drivers careers are starting to wind down, no one to this day has done what Harry Gant did in cup when he was 51 years old winning 4 cup races taking second in the 5th cup race of September and winning both Busch races in September of 1991 for a total of 6 wins and 1 second place finish. Shame on NASCAR.
