Learn The Notes On Your Guitar Fretboard In This Easy Guitar Fretboard Navigation Workshop.
Fretboard navigation is at the heart of not getting lost on the guitar fretboard. Many methods for fretboard memorization are confusing when really the patterns are obvious once someone shows you them. In this live fretboard navigation workshop I show you one of the many methods to learn notes on the guitar, I have taught thousands of students in the last 30 years as a guitar teacher.
PDF is a blank fretboard chart for you to draw patterns on.

Eyup' Rick, greetings from North Carolina USA, I'm a self taught guitar player and have never taken any lessons. BUT, I have reached the point of need to be taught . I have discovered ur videos and I absolutely love them! I'm a 46 year old man and I love to make music from my teen years as well as some new stuff as well (Greta Van Fleet) and I just wanted to say thank you for the time and effort that you give up to make these videos. You keep teaching and I'll keep learning, have a great day and thank you again

Thank you Rickey! I am relearning guitar after a 50 year gap! I played a bugle in a Boy's Brigade band (even at 'The Albert Hall' with its infamous echo!) and have learned a little clarinet and harmonica in between. I still remember some chord shapes but I never learned my scales :-(. This lesson was a bit too basic for me but I am determined to do it properly this time. I guess it was Bert Weedon's 'Play in a Day' that taught me "Even Ants Do Good Before Evil" and my father taught me "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour" for the lines on the treble clef. Many previous generations were forced to take piano (forté) lessons where a mistake resulted in a painful rap over the knuckles from a 12" ruler! I would also like to learn to sing (better than you?)! Back in the 1950s my UK primary school (5 - 10 years old) was keen on singing and recorder. My Secondary School Music Teacher was probably a good musician, he played lunchtime piano recitals at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon and taught us a lot about music theory. By the time I was in the sixth form we had a music teacher who was quite the opposite, a bit like you, he played his acoustic guitar, wrote parts for anyone and everyone who had an instrument (or could only sing three notes) and took his 'orchestra' in a coach adorned with the slogan 'Bill's Band' to win local school band competitions! In the 1980s my daughter was privileged to attend a tiny (70 pupil; 5 - 10 y/o) school where the headmaster was a keen musician and a member of the local brass band. I bought her a very nice £300 (year 2000 price) Yamaha acoustic but she refused to allow me to play it and later on stole my £200 Boosey & Hawkes student Clarinet. I reckon 'Stranger on the Shore' should be doable on guitar. Unfortunately, today in State Schools in the UK and USA it seems that music is forgotten. Today it is an 'extracurricular activity' for which the teachers receive no reward other than their satisfaction in developing a new generation of excellent musicians. Some 'older men' buy a sports car - I recently bought a Fender 2018 Player MIM! There are better guitars (e.g.your Pacifica) but I do not have to go through the pain, again, of a cheap, wide neck, high action classical acoustic that I made even worse by installing steel strings. Even though I bought this this 'Fender' from a reputable UK store it was not setup properly. My skills as a retired computer/electronic/mechanical engineer are serving my guitar well. Thank you for your lessons and your enthusiasm! Apologies for this overlong response but I really want young people to stick with their music, their guitar and with you. Alan

Good for you, Ricky. Unlike many others you don't strive to be the matinee idol of guitar instruction but really teach what is important. Who cares about the lighting etc? This is not Hollywood but real guitar instruction. Cheers from the colonies!

Hi Ricky , I'm Mike Phillips and just watched my first video of yours. I've watched a lot of instructional videos, BUT you're the first to mention how the guitar is tuned in 4ths, with the exception of B-G in a perfect third. You don't know what this meant to me. I also like your style of teaching, down to earth like me. Thank you! (I'm not worthy!)

Ricky, just caught this lesson in a review of your videos and I am so glad I did. I finally understand what the "C" on my electronic guitar tuner means. NOT Cello, NOT Clarinet, but Chromatic...and what a difference that's made to the sound of a "well tuned guitar!" Thanks Ricky! Waiting patiently for your Book! 👍🏾👍🏽🎯🕊

I like the way you teach in a fun way that inspires me rather than somebody that is stern. I am 72 and want to play for my own pleasure and keep my brain active so would just like to say thank you very much for the video’s. kind regards. Chas.

My preferred clip on tuner is a Boston tuner. It has ZERO buttons in the side. It’s the chromatic one. I hate cycling through bass, uke and violin settings! This is a foolproof tuner!

I'm using the open strings Kev. So, E to A, A to D, D to G and B to E. However when you play the open G then B string you get a Major 3rd which is "Kumbaya my lord"

Learn the G blues pattern and you don’t need to know all the note names BUT you need to know the note names to find the root notes to find the positions to play all over the neck
