In this video I'll be putting the Kingroon KP3S Pro through it's paces and fully testing it's capabilities so that you can see if this is the 3d printer for you.
If I had have made this review after only a week of testing then this video would have been very short and would basically consist of me telling you not to buy it!
However, I've now changed my mind.......a bit.

I just received the kingroon e3dy direct drive extruder which I wanted to slab on my old ender 3. It has a titan aero extruder clone inside with a v5 j-head hotend. They delivered it with the PTFE liner cut flush at the end of the inner filament guide leaving the entire heat break up to the nozzle an empty large void! Immediate clogging was the result. Being experienced, I disassembled it and found the flaw. The thumb screw for the extruder spring tension was too long and was a case for the bench grinder. After correcting everything, it became a great extruderassembly producing great quality prints. Kingroon have good ideas but fail to ensure QC. It makes their products a cheap baseline for tinkering with, but I could not recommend to beginners thinking they receive an out of the box working product.

It sounds like you've had a very similar experience to me. Glad I haven't recommended it for beginners but I'm really looking forward to tinkering myself to see how good I can make it. Thanks for the comment 👍

I have non PRO version and it is excellent. No problems at all in stock state for few months. Then I added Klipper , 3Dtouch, bed insulation, voltage regulators for cooling fans (to quiet them down) and it is superb! 170mm/s capable

Im picking a New but unboxed one today. Got it cheapish too. Its main use is to keep me interested after many fails with Marlin and my E5+s. lol. Lesson i learned there... One major mod at a time. Defiantly be installing Klipper.

Thanks for the overview. I am planning to add this printer to my fleet. 3D printer manufactures have been stuck in that lack of innovation mode for years now. It's nice to finally see linear rails on all axis. As long as the printer is solid it should print faster and be more accurate than the other designs on the market. When I order mine I will also order 2 MOSFET's. One for the bed and the other for the hotend. I do this with all my printers to remove the high current draw from the main board. I am also planning to add a Slice Engineering copperhead hotend due to the clogging issues. Anyway, thanks for the content! Looking forward to the follow up videos... Cheers, Greg

Indeed. I find it difficult to explain why I like this machine when it's given me so much grief. I think I like the potential of what it can be as the core hardware is sound. As you say, it should be capable of some impressive speeds once a few niggles are worked out. I'd be interested to see how you get on with that hot end. It's not obvious as to whether they would fit easily. Keep me updated👍

@@RickyImpey I've the Pro S1, and it's a bad implementation of a great idea. They could use a better hot end and finished to use an E3D V6 for expert users who can handle random clogs. They also put glass instead of PEI, glass is not beginner friendly. But I understood why they used glass, because when I put PEI and heated the bed I had 100 micron difference between center and corners to correct with a 1" frame of 100 micron adhesive heat tape. PSU fan noise reduced with a miniature dc-dc step down buck. New fan shroud with 4020 Sunon MF40202V2-1000C-A99 DC 24V 26db fan and PID tuning. If you're a Pro can correct all of those "defects" and obtain a nice jewel of printer.

I usually if I had clogging issue is to replace PTFE tube for higher temperature (blue PTFE) one. If you go into higher temperature what happen is PTFE start to swell and stays swell, I do have few printer from any makers does that.

When you sent in your support ticket was it around the holidays? Never owned a Kingroon but if you contacted around the holidays and it took them 5 days to respond thats not bad. Should at least make that known in the video if that was the case

I bought this printer while I was working abroad as I missed my printers and had amassed loads of files I wanted to print, I use Cura and havent had any of the issues you have with the V6(ish) and I used it loads although since coming home I havent used it much, one difference though is I put a silicon sock on it.

Thanks, it's good to hear that they don't all do what mine did. Yes, it was painful using it without the silicone sock for testing, it's definitely getting one soon.

@@RickyImpey Ok, Newbie here, with a brand new heat gun (still in the box) ? So what is a silicone sock ?

@@Atrue_1 the silicone sock is a silicone shroud that sits over your heatblock to stop the filament from sticking to the metal parts near the nozzle.

Nice Vid, I have the Kingroon KP.... Pro (still in the box, gotta clear a space for it.) - I am a total newbie at this. Yet, I want to put it, to good use making things, for the outdoors (summer is coming fast). What type of Heat / Cold resistant, yet outdoor durable, filaments can it handle. Thx ! If I want something that can stand up to a bit more environmental abuse than PLA but is almost as easy to print with, I usually use PETG. Your machine will print PETG at around 230-240° but it can give a lot of 'hairy' prints due to the nature of the material. I usually blast PETG prints with a heatgun quickly when done to remove any wisps.

I received my KP3S Pro recently and I was having trouble leveling. The stopper screw wouldn't go down far enough and I couldn't raise the bed high enough while also keeping tension on the springs. I double checked that the Z arm was fully slotted in the base. Does anyone have a suggestion of what I can look into next? Thanks for the video, Ricky! Looking forward to all the upgrades you do to it and I'll be doing whatever you do. I'll also make sure to click on any affiliate links when I go to purchase those materials. Cheers.
