That second Ray Flacke solo at this live show is really out in the stratosphere. He keeps it pure country but sends it out into surreal territory. Not an easy task. One of the greatest country guitarists there ever was.

You're so right. The combination of technical mastery and creativity in that 2nd solo is absolutely mind blowing. Incredible.

No doubt, both solos give me goosebumps every single time I watch this video.

There are so many things about these fantastic Ray solos. Just mentioning one, in the first solo, does anyone else wonder how in its very beginning, he forms a chord, then does a descending run during most of which his fingers don’t seem to be moving??? I see they do at the end of it, but the run is practically over by that time! Guitar work brilliant throughout!

Lots of good pickers in that band. My fiddlin buddy calls Ricky's 5 -string electric mandolin the "Hamstercaster". Too bad today's country radio doesn't play good music.
@stephenjones14882 жыл бұрын
They sure as hell don't. They play the absolute drivel that they call "country music" nowadays(Minus Sturgill Simpson, and maybe 2 or 3 others who play actual country music and not the crap pop music they call "Country" these days(and the last 25 years or so tbh. It's ALL the ABSOLUTE DRIZZLING FUCKING SHITS.(To borrow a great saying/term from the wrestling business.) which is simply AWFUL pop music w/ an acoustic guitar and maybe a little bit of fiddle, or the mandolin. It's all SO depressingly bad, homogenized, oversaturated, over produced, cookie cutter, mass produced assembly line DRIVEL. Long live TRUE COUNTRY MUSIC. Jimmy Rogers, Hank, Waylon, Guy, Townes, George, Buddy, Bob Wills, Buck, to name ONLY A FEW absolute LEGENDS that're rolling over in their graves.
@GMitchell5150 Жыл бұрын
@@stephenjones1488 As a country station jock I'll tell ya...the artists you mentioned are classified as "Classic Country", what I play is "Todays Country", or "Progressive Country". Along with sprinklings of Classic. It is whats popular with our target demographic.

Incredible, isn’t it? I have the good fortune to play with an authentic country guitar player. Sometimes I’ll nearly mess up from listening to him. It’s a superior approach to playing the guitar, in my humble bass-playing opinion.
