Well, a lot of the time it is for drug screens that are routine and do not necessarily mean that someone is going to jail. The PO cannot give them a reason, as in the case of a drug screen, to relieve the anxiety of the probationer. I guess if the visit goes well and they don't get arrested, I imagine there will be a lot of smoking or coffee drinking later to let the stress go.

Probation and Parole is so underpaid for the caseload they have, it's ridiculous. I'm a CO and with my overtime, I technically make slightly more than PO's. They make less less police and they have a much higher workload. The state needs to pay these PO's more (I'm in NC).

Probation took property from my brother. My brother successfully completed Georgia's First Offender Program. At the end of his probation, his rights were restored and now he stands before the law as never having had committing a crime. Probation did not issue a receipt for the property when taken. The property was eligible for return at the completion of probation. After several weeks of searching, probation notified him that it appeared that his property was irretrievably lost. This property included many family heirlooms. My lawyer informed him to sue the officer and make the agency a co-defendant, though she didn't say how. I'm a former CO, and I have seen CO's, including a lieutenant, have their pay docked because they lost, or couldn't account for, inmate property. I know that this is serious, in my brother's case ( actually, it involves our whole family ) because the items are irreplaceable. Any advice would be appreciated .

As A NOW Pro Se Litigant I Now Have The Pleasure Of Doing A 180 Degree Flip On My Probation Officer. WHAT Society & The General Public Don't Realize Is That "Probation Officers" Are Really No Different Than ANY Other Person With Authority. They Are Also Human & As Much Powered They May Seem To Wield Over You Please Remember That They To Are Also Under Observation By The Very Person They Are Observing. It Takes 2 to Tango! Yes? So I GOT Violated By My Probation Officer For What? So Now Years Later I Am Now 440.10 Motion & Now Soupeana Her To Testify As A Witness Whom Retains Knowledge Regarding Her Exact JOB Duties. So Interesting Enough When One Reworks Their Own Case Rather Then Having Those Idiot Court Appointed Lawyer You Call The SHOTS NOW! So I Read Up On MY Former Probation Officer Duties & Believe YOU Me She Has A LOT! To ANSWER For In Her DUTIES. Probation Officer Are As Much Accountable As You Are To Them. It's Pretty SAD When You Manage To FLIP The Script On A Probation Officer. Now Don't Get Me WRONG I Have Also Had 2 Former PO That Our Relationship Now Off Probation Has Such Positive Memories Especial In The Area Of Believability & TRUST. ALL Criminals Are NOT ALL Mean & Dishonest. Same As NOT ALL Probation Officers Are MEAN & Boss. But Rest Assure This Last Probation Officer Is NOT Going To Be Happy When She Goes Up Against Me Years Later In FRONT Of A JUDGE & JURY. ALSO Keeping In Mind ALL Information Pertaining To YOUR Own SELF Is Evideamce Called BRADY Material. Make Sure YOU Keep ALL Of Your Rules Regulations Of Probation, You Have The Right To Video Your Home Visits & Take Pictures Of your Probation Officer Who Enter your Home In Order To Do Their Search. As Much Info They Want From You As A Probationer You Have The Same Rights To Obtain Info From Them. It's ALL ABOUT Being HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR ONES OWN WORDS & ACTIONS!

They allowed my brother to go unsupervised for almost 10 months. No visits. No phone calls. My brother observed curfew, didn't drink ( which he never did anyway ), and sent in his supervision fee every month. He never changed addresses or left the jurisdiction, and didn't commit any crimes. Then , out of the blue, a deputy's car rolls up one night. He says that there is a warrant. My brother tells him what has taken place for the last 9+ months. The deputy calls the probation officer. My brother hears the deputy say to her, " you can't do that ". Turns out that day the PO had a warrant sworn out, and it appears that it got backdated to January, 9 months prior. I've always heard that court clerks could be shady, judges too. The deputy didn't take him to jail. Two days later the PO's boss called him and he was very polite. Everything was more or less ok after that. Within a year, my brother had a new PO and his old one was promoted(!) There was no love lost between my brother and his PO. She was a little 5 foot nothin of a redneck that went out of her way to humiliate and browbeat him. My brother, a former CO, like myself, had never been in trouble before this. He went before the judge , and probation tried to make him look bad in front of the judge, but the judge saw through them and disregarded most of their assertions. The judge also cautioned my brother to " stop telling probation how to do their jobs" . My brother was released ROR and never had another issue during probation.

@@redlikewineagain697 I'm glad a fellow "PO officer" has made a comment against mine. This isn't about the system. The point I was making is that people like you abuse the word help. Tell me, in what way do PO officers provide help? Are you assuming that probationers need "help"? Are you aware of how many uneducated and pathetic PO officers there are that unfortunately take advantage of their position and power they have over their probationers? Did you know that ANYONE can end up on probation? Even people far educated than you. Also, the process to become a PO is a joke. First, because I've seen overweighted POs and old POs. Second, a master's degree on criminal justice is considered a useless degree. Seriously, out of all the jobs you could've applied for with that degree. You chosed PO instead? Also, the education system is to blame. I believe every career should require a bachelors or master's degree on psychology. So that people can have some logic. If you want. I can tell you my experience and perspective when I was on probation to get into more depth about my opinion on probation and the law enforcement in general.

@@MrMIND-lk1sy your “when I was on probation” comment told me everything I needed to know. You had a poor experience with your PO & now you’re criticizing the entire system of community corrections. They probably choose to be on probation rather than jail and they keep messing up. Eventually enough is enough and they gotta throw you in jail. If your smart you will realize you messed up while in there, if your a dumb your gonna be complaining about 'unfairness'. Probation should be a punishment since its taking the place of jail, their not requiring you to pay a billion dollars and volunteer to disarm bombs with a hammer, their just requiring that you follow the law, simple as that. Some people still cant do that, they probably view the justice system as weak since it gave them a second chance. If they continue like that their gonna wind up in jail either way.

Dear officer Murdock, Please understand that a jar of weed is not really that much and yes, its easily consumable by one individual as personal use. And, will you marry me, cuz damn you are beautiful!
@eclecticreader9614 жыл бұрын
It's not so much the amount of weed that probation officers focus on, rather, it's the fact that they are trained to be aware that after smoking weed, it stays in your system for a week. Therefore, if you have an appointment with a P.O. and you get a urine test and it's proven positive, that will lead to a write up in violating a condition of probation. That write up can then lead to a level one petition, which means being summoned in front of a magistrate facing the prospect of future charges for violating a condition of probation. If the magistrate is hard core, that can lead to a level two petition, which means a sentencing trial. That's why it's so imperative to not have weed in possession, nor to smoke or ingest it, while still on probation.
@Fawkin51504 жыл бұрын

"I help people" "You're going to jail for marijuana." Something that most americans say shouldn't be a crime. Sounds like fascism to me. It's not like our prison industrial complex contributes to recidivism. "They feel more comfortable speaking to us." Bullshit psychology tactics, don't talk to a PO besides what they need. Make them think they're your friend, and have a lawyer on retainer. Talk to your lawyer before your PO.

These guys are crooks. They come in your home and take you wife and kids out of their rooms by gunpoint. I have seen it done lots of times. They the next ones were going to bust. I promise u.

Probation is nothing more than revenue for the city/state. If someone needs to be under supervision, they shouldn't be out on the street.

I would like to be a probation and or parole officer but are they required to carry a gun? I dont want to carry a gun. I live in California

Depends on your client base. If your dealing with violent criminals, then your office will require you to.

Depends which State. Most States require their officers to carry. You could also look into becoming a misdemeanor PO, I don’t think they carry.
