It’s a beautiful day to ride train #68 from Babylon to Patchogue. The K5LA horn on engine #518 is heard crisply on this routine run to Patchogue. We observe the train upon arrival heading east in the siding until his next run to Babylon. This is the legendary “Patchogue Scoot” of today. We take a little tour of the “up and coming” Patchogue business district after our arrival.

Do you know the next time you’ll do an M3 rfw video out of Penn station? Or into Penn station?

Not sure. It depends on my schedule of activities and luck.

At 18:50, you mentioned a close call that you had while walking the tracks. I held on for some details, but nothing more came of it. Could you let me know what happened? (If you want.) I ask because I walked the tracks myself between Port Jefferson and Kings Park on separate days, as well as Sea Cliff to Glen Cove in one day. (And the Wading River to Port Jefferson trail, covering the abandoned line.) No close calls, but I never liked going across bridges, particularly the one just west of Smithtown.

I was walking on the tracks going east and I looked up and there was a westbound coming at me pretty fast. Many times in the late 80s. I would walk the Port Jefferson branch from Northport to Port Jefferson when I was about to cross the bridge I would always look at the timetable to make sure there wasn’t a train or trains nearby.

@@3985uprr I'd carry along a timetable myself, but my father had warned me about unscheduled trains. Not the most common thing on the PJ branch, but enough to put the fear of diesel in me. Well, we survived.🤨 Thanks for your reply.

I thought the DM30’s were only used for trains heading to and from Penn Station.
