It would be cool to see a snow bias tire that performs well in these exact conditions. I'm moving to back to Richmond, VA during February. My 06 Tundra ran Dueler A/Ts, combined w/ the 4x4 system it was more than enough for highway travel back and forth to NY. Now my GX470 is my overlander on Cooper ATPs. We'll see, great video. Nice rig. Look forward to more comparisons

id like to see someone test the sidewall depth of these tires side to side with 65,70, and 75s. i know this would be difficult for one person by themselves but I never see anyone talk about how the sidewall depth impacts traction. I would recommend the Felken wild peaks Atw3s. I have them on my tundra. They are fairly cheap on a 20 inch wheel they do awesome in deep snow and they perform great on mud or wet roads! Very little noise as well. I’m trying to find a reasonably cheap tire that works just as good as the Felken but a bit more aggressive. I’ve wanted to try the Duratracs but I’ve heard bad reviews and I’ve heard they like to feather bad if you don’t rotate often.

@@tperry8130 I did. In comparison, the RGs make a little more noise but not as stiff. They also have better traction in dry and wet. I have 7000 miles on them now and appear to be wearing faster than the KO2s. The RGs were about $300 more than the KO2s for a set of 4. Thank you for all of the kind words, I really appreciate it! We haven't had a chance to do a follow up video yet, but I can tell you that Briggs did have KO2s on the 4runner before the Nittos. The Nittos are certainly more aggressive, better in mud, and still quiet on the road. He was able to get 50k miles from the KO2s before switching and was happy with them in a variety of driving conditions. I have seen the quality of some BFG tires slip in the past few years though. Thanks for watching, I hope you consider subscribing. Happy trails!

Same here!! I live in Indiana but I'm from the UP, so I'm driving through Wisconsin a few times a year. I want a tire that is going to do well on the snow/slush crap we get during winter. Anything that does well on that should be able to handle some rocky gravel roads! After a ton of research I've narrowed it down to 3 tires. The Milestar Patagonias MT, the Yokohama Goelandar MT G003, and Cooper MTP. My goal is to find a tire that can tackle everything winter throws at us, but still is relatively quiet on the road.

Joe KO2’s and BFG’s AT and MT tire offerings are just too expensive to be worth it anymore. Many other tires that out perform them, run more true to size, and come in at a much better price point than BFG any more. The original BFG KO/AT’s set the bar a long time ago as a real all terrain tire, with great wear. then they got expensive and other companies came along with better offerings. I wouldn’t put BFG’s on my truck unless the price was cheaper than any other AT, but their price for the performance you get anymore is silly.

@The94GTC Don't know. I'm not making videos trying to get views. I just need tires that work. Ridge Grapplers look cool and work in dry dirt and hard pack. Look at the tread closely, there is this tiny edge that bites for about 2-3000 miles but it is so shallow it gets worn down immediately and wet snow and mud traction gets even worse. The siping only looked a few mm deep which was probably not helping. Maybe the compound is different on the F-rated 35s? But in my opinion these should say summer use only.

Vcs will cause Speedo not to work . Wheel speed sensors , splices in those wires that go to them or broken wires . They say that will keep the Speedo from not working . Also if you do t get the vsc lights to go off and stay were the Speedo is not working after so long the Speedo will not work at all . That’s what I found them saying on one of the forms on line . I think it said that you would have to replace the main computer . I put 4 new wheel speed sensors / abs sensors along with the front two and one rear wiring harnesses for those sensors . I also replaced the speed sensor on the trans . They say also that they will repeatedly come on until the system figures out how fast the vehicle is actually going . This is do to radar sensors on the front abs sensors that work when you hit something they set the air bag off . Well from what I read they have radar and they help the computer keep you Speedo calibrated after lifting and bigger tires . They say it can take up to around a year of turning the vsc lights off and making sure they stay off each time for more than a day . I’ve been through hell getting mine to stay off . My 2004 4 runner with modified lift 6 in the front 4.5 in the rear 33-12.50 17 milestar Patagonia mud tires . With hand made 3/16 steel rock and stick protectors for the cv axles and front skid plate to match . Then 1/4 steel bottom skid plate to protect engine transmission/transfer case. If that diff wasn’t open those tires would have chewed through that hump like it wasn’t there. Wasn’t a reflection in the tires at all. Still a cool drive, not the kind of snow out west but beautiful land nonetheless.

ADyess086 narrow tires are good in the snow when on the roads, and when in shallow snow. Deep snow you want a wide tire to float on top. We got 22in of snow here in Missouri one year and I had 37x13.5in tires on my truck and when I drove in fresh powder and got going I was only sinking in about 6in and going everywhere.

Champuk Bhosle hence HEAVY military trucks... skinny to dig because they’re going to sink anyways. Wide tires do great in mud and snow, with the proper setup in mind. Wide tires for mud to float and paddle across the top more, well suited to lighter rigs. And In snow off road you want wide tires to float, like the Icelandic tundra trucks running 18-24in wide tires, but you want skinny snow tires on the highway to dig to pavement and have a high contact patch pressure.

I assume you guys know how snow "behaves" with tires? The bigger the tread, the worse those tires are in snow. Obviously some summer slicks are bad as well, but proper (I mean real winter tires, not Nittos... they're not good for winter) tires make all kinds of snowy roads a cake walk. Since snow against snow creates friction, those all terrains all the way to the muddies are pretty crappy in snow and no go in ice. Then again, I also assume they don't sell real winter tires there, do they?

I know snow isn't to common out there, but from the Colorado perspective those tires are hot garbage based just on what I saw in this video (*in snow. They probably rock elsewhere). Anything"impressive" here likely had more to do with driver skill than the tire. Just don't want you to never know what a good snow tire could be. In their defense, these types of M/T tires (not just this specific one fro Nitto) aren't intended to be good in snow anyway. One look at the siping (or lack thereof in this case) tells us that in advance. But if I lived where you do, I'd care less about snow performance and be able to get a better off road tire like this too.

Sadly, no offense to the channel owners, most people have no idea how to wheel in the snow. This include these guys. The snow is the trickiest because of how variable it can be. If the temp raises or lowers just a few degrees then the snow also changes. No need for lockers either. Saying that is the reason you couldnt make it here or there is simply an excuse. The biggest mistakes people make in the snow: 1) Too much throttle. It's not mud. It's not tarmac. The less throttle the better in snow. At least when you are trying to climb something steep and snow isnt packing well. 2) Air down properly. Most people dont air down at all, however plenty of folks just dont do it properly. There is debate on whether steel is better than aluminum at holding bead with low pressures. Just dont air down below 5psi without bead locks and be aware when the snow freezes or your driving in someone's tracks with shorter/longer wheel base or narrow/wider track width, these things will pull your tires left and right and make them prone to losing bead. 3) Automatics are terrible...... for wheeling in the snow. Personally to me, they are terrible for wheeling in general but I digress. You dont need lockers to get up a hill. Usually the hardest part of a snowy hill climb is gravity combined with low traction equals PIA. With an automatic you have to wait for the TC to engage for movement to begin and for that you need rpm to build up. If for example yours doesnt engage till 1000rpm your looking at wheel spin immediately. The nice thing about a manual is the ability to either ride the clutch for very low rpm engagement or rocking your vehicle (fucking your truck as we call it) release the clutch to engage motion then immediately releasing at the Crest of your forward motion rocking back and hitting it again till you pop over the Crest to break fresh trail. 4) Snow changes. If the temp is say, 38 degrees and the snow is wet and heavy, chances are it will be a little sloppy and slick. If the temp drops to between 34 and 36 it will pack nicely and you will feel like a wheeling God. If it drops to 32 or below it will develop a crust on top and turn to powdered sugar below and net you zero compaction rendering you mostly useless in a climb. Adapt and overcome. Putting it to the wood everywhere you go is fun and makes for entertaining video but wheeling.... (regardless of lift, tires, lockers, suspension, go fast stripes, or ambient air intakes)... is 90 percent driver and 10 percent vehicle. Experience is king. Not to toot my own horn but I would be willing to bet a round of beers that I could take a stock carburated pickup from the 80s farther than 74 percent of the population owning lifted, new fangled, advanced trac, front and rear e-lockers, insert bell or whistle here.

I Bought a set October 2018 and put on my 2016 GMC Denali HD Duramax it is now January I have had four tires replaced from belts that have broke on them. Just got 12 + inches of snow and these tires are horrible in heavy snow. In contact with the Nitto trying to get a full refund on these. I purchased these from tirebuyer.com and they have stood by Nittos product amazingly. Not one question both times I had problems they replace the tires and I had them the next day.they said if this happens again they will give me a full refund and take care of talking to Nitto. I had ko2s on the truck from since it was new and they would go anywhere they would have climbed the hill with the leafs that you just tried to go up. I would never buy these ridge grapplers again or recommend these to anyone!! Tires are 35 x 11.50 x 20. Expensive junk!!

295 = width in MM: /70 = 70% of 295mm: R17 = 17" wheel diameter. However, every single manufacture's molds have slight size variations so always go by what the manufacture lists the tire size as on the parent website or info. Do not rely on 3rd party sizing.
@shermellow
@shermellow 4 жыл бұрын
@@BeardedDaddyD yeah that's a good reference for approximate sizing. Actual sizing can vary across brands though and it's always best to just refer to the manufacturer for actual size. At my service department we stock, coopers, bfgs, toyos, nittos, Goodyear's Fuel, and none of them are the same size in the same size categories lol. Example all the 285/70R17 sized tires are all different sizes. The Goodyear Duratracs tend to be almost a full 1 inch taller than the BFGS ko2s once inflated on the 285/70R17 size. So one companies "33" inch tall tire might actually only be a 32 and another companies "33" inch tall tire might be closer to 33.5 *cough* nitto *cough*
