Whenever I use onagers they get destroyed in 5 seconds when. Y enemy uses them against me, they destroy my whole town

Try to upgrade them a lot, produce a lot of them (a dozen maybe?) and put some units to protect them at the front -- the best being upgraded archers since they don't have to move to fight so they don't risk getting killed by your onagers in the battle. If the enemy uses horses, use either pikemen, champions or camels/knights, at least in fights against AIs. To defend against them, use (upgraded) knights: they move fast enough to avoid the projectiles.

I as a rule of thumb never make use of onagers or mangonels, simply because I kill more of my own men, or trebuchets and rams do it better against fortifications

This vid really tells how the community improved. Viper. I mean, VIPER losing more than 30 longbows at 2:20. I am a stupid 1100 elo and would never lose so many units like that. Hard to believe...
