In Episode 13 of this series, we give isolated and bored Alex Howes (EF Pro Cycling) the chance to fulfill one of his dreams: riding a fixie bike with Scott Piercefield (State Bicycle Co.) Alex is a Colorado native, born and bred. He’s been riding for as long as he can remember, so bicycle racing came naturally. Alex earned the reputation as one of the most consistent riders fighting for the podium in recent years. In May of 2019, Alex checked a major box in his career by winning the National Championship Road Race.
Then COVID happened. Alex qualified for the 2020 Olympic Cycling Team - which is now the 2021 team. He’s been locked down since March so we thought he might like a change of scenery and a new challenge. We wanted to learn what makes Alex tick, so we asked Scott to interview him while climbing over 3,600 feet on Colorado Highway 103 to Echo Lake.
Over the course of 32 miles up and down the mountain, listen in on a wide-ranging and inciteful interview.
• Would you guess that Alex is a science geek?
• Why does Lachlan Morton, the Australian Pro, have his brake levers reversed?
• Did you know that “undorkifying” is a word?
• Fashion commentary: US men versus Europeans. (Who believes cargo pants never go out of style?)
• Alex Howes quote of the day: “In every Pro, there’s an average Joe.”
When he is not training and racing, you can Alex roaming the American West, either in his old pickup truck or on his bike, with his wife Jess and his dog Reina. Check out what Alex is doing on:

About the Series: "Riding Fixed, Up Mountains, With Pros." The concept is simple, we wanted to get to know our favorite Pro cyclists, and what better way to conduct a natural interview than on the bike, taking them out of their comfort zone just a bit by doing in with NO GEARS (and no brakes sometimes).

The real beauty of this series, is that in it's essence, it just feels like a chill conversation between two dudes on a casual ride. However, the production values are through the roof. The audio is spot on, there's no wind noise or random peaking, the edit keeps the conversation flowing but keeps interesting tid-bits, the colouring is amazing, the titles are stylish, the animations are artistic... hell, even the camera guy keeps his stuff in super clean condition. There's a few shots full into the sun. lens-flare and all, and there's not a spec of dust on the lens. All brilliantly delivered in cinematic 4k @ 24fps. Bravo state bicycle co, bravo. 🤜

@@haydengutiw I would use 48 x 17 if I lived in a country that's quite hilly. However, the terrain in my country can be described as superflat, aside from the British-style hill climbs in my country(Singapore). My ratio is either 58x16 or 58x14,depending on what kinda riding I'll be doing.

But, in some of these descriptions, there are some errors that I just can't get over. I'm not the grammar police but some of these are pretty bad.
