@Rick Smith. I am sure that many of the homes that were for sale on Sanibel, either no longer exist, or are badly damaged. The land will still be worth money in the long run if sellers hold on it, I suppose. Feel bad for any buyers who had just closed on their dream beach front homes right before Ian hit. That would suck!

A large portion of residents on the west coast are elderly with little to no family, the storm track completely changed the impact zone at 2am in the morning, and evacuating in time once the news broke was near impossible. Sometimes it’s best to keep your comments when you have no clue about the circumstances surrounding something, Traci..

That was me in the video; I live in the City of Naples, but East Naples was hit very hard and I know there was a lot of flooding there. US41 was also flooded to knee length and flooding also went down Radio Road to the Naples Airport. At the time of this interview I didn’t realize it went further inland because I couldn’t access the Internet, but I was horrified to see the extent of the storm surge. I’ve never seen anything like it in my 22 years of living here.

I was in the Venice/Englewood/Placida area this weekend with my family vacationing while also checking on their retirement home they are building in the area. Throughout Sunday & Monday officials and media were very adamant about evacuation and declared red zones of which the areas hit the worst were labeled. EVERYONE WAS AWARE. Some don't have the health or finances to evacuate, while others just don't have the sense of survival. I overheard some midwestern vacationers talking about how they have survived a tornado therefore they will ride out the hurricane.

Hi, Danny! That was me in the video. I was really nervous and still in shock during this interview and I wasn’t given the questions ahead of time which explains my choppy answers. I promise I’m usually much more well-spoken. I agreed to this interview because I wanted to explain my experience and let people know how bad Hurricane Ian was for my community. My region changed overnight. My house was flooded and my car was totaled, but I was one of the lucky ones because I still have a house to go back to. Regardless of money, Hurricane Ian took away everything from some people and changed the lives of everyone in SWFL.

@@aleksandraparrish6436 I see no issues with your responses. Don't let the braindead internet trolls get to you. Glad you and your family are safe. Sorry about your car and property damage, but hopefully insurance covers it all and you get something nicer. I agree 100% with your answer of all Floridians being aware of the impact of hurricanes on florida and that they prefer to stay put rather than just abandon ship. I applaud their bravery, everyone thinks it is easy to evacuate or stay put until they are in the mess themselves. I appreciate your insight to the damage to your community because I was checking on a friend who I have not heard back from.
