So happy for you 🎉. Valegro had a massive canter when he was a young horse. Being able to see more of Harley because of the chest mount for your camera is awesome 💯.

Yes, his natural canter is quite big and uphill (it's also the reason i've not done a prelim yet haha, harder to close it down and keep the balance in a 20x40, but it's next on my list!). And thank you, I love doing these GoPro vlogs.

Haha, he does have quite a big canter - it’s one of the reasons I haven’t done a Prelim test yet, his natural canter is uphill and ground covering and it’s hard for him (and me) to balance in a Dressage arena in a much smaller canter. It’ll come! In the meantime, I enjoy his big canter in the countryside 🤣

Lovely video! I also waited a while to canter my horse on hacks (we hack almost always on our own), there was just suddenly this moment were I just thought: let's do it ;) Happy you had this wonderful experience :) What is this seasonal thing? I noticed my horse has certain times a year were he gets spookier for a while. Last year it was in april, again end of october and now he's spookier/too much energy again... Nothing serious but quite noticable to me and my trainer. He always lives 24/7 out in a herd/big field so I always thought it was the spring grass or the colder temperatures....

So most horses have four 'gaits' or speeds: walk, trot, canter and gallop. Canter is the third fastest. There are some horses who have additional gaits but it's less usual.
