The island boasts a year-round Mediterranean climate with numerous activities and beaches. The entire trip takes about an hour to complete.

@@ActionKid,@David Machado: At 9am on 12/9/67, I watched from a fishing boat off Long Beach Harbor as the RMS Queen Mary ended 30 yrs. of service on her final cruise and headed to a permanent berth + new life here. An unforgettable nautical party,, especially for an 11 yr old- like a New Year's Times Square on max steroids! One million people cheered from shore + a flotilla of 5K packed boats caused a traffic jam for the dozens of escorting Navy & Coast Guard vessels and tugs. A sky full of planes, blimps + choppers matched the chaos below. Water cannons flared as her passengers waved + popped champagne corks and streamers from her portholes & decks. Big blasts from her mighty horns retorted a wall of honks, music + cheers from sightseeing boats, autos + a sea of manic revelers. I ate the very best burger of my life from our skipper's grill that day! Being too massive for a Panama canal passage, the Queen had to round Cape Horn + skirt South & Central America before her grand entry into our California waters. I still wish I'd been aboard her on that final voyage...

The boat ride over to Catalina is usually pretty choppy because the ocean floor between Catalina and the mainland is actually quite hilly. It isn’t flat as one would assume. Catalina is just the top of a really big hill (or I suppose mountain)

Thank you so much for doing this video. We are landlocked in Texas with practically no water activity available and have been for 30 years. I am former Navy and we had time on both coasts. We have wanted to visit Catalina but its not easy to put that together so we really enjoyed the virtual ride over on the Catalina Express with you.

My friends and I went to Catalina in 2016 and got outside seating on the ferry. Great views and memories!! Looking forward to the next footage of the 🏝. It is always so satisfying looking at water through your camera at 60fps, so smooth. That was a wonderful ferry ⛴️ ride and glad you went out front too. Girlinthecurl looks very nice 🙂 glad to see her on camera too!

The Catalina Express ride reminds me of the ferry I took to Morocco from Spain for a day trip. Did you also visit Two Harbors? Two Harbors and the west end of the island give a ruggedly different feel of Catalina from Avalon.

Wow!!!!! I needed to search for some info about boarding Catalina Express because my younger sister will be visiting us so she can be with our mother, first time since Dec 2019 -------- the virus kept all of us family members apart. Catalina Express has (2) ticket options. General and Lounge ticket options with the General being cheaper. I was thinking that for Lounge , we get to be inside while General means seating outside with no cover ------ exposed to rain and wind. If you know what is the difference, I would really appreciate your clarification. Have a Happy and Healthy New Year 2022!!!!!! :>)

Wow, never thought about that. I wish I would know about the cruise to Catalina Islands when I first came to Los Angeles coming from Chicago. For $76 is a reasonable price for a round trip ticket.

I grew up in Wilmington first time I took the ferry to Catalina back in 1965 it cost 15 dollars round trip I even took a seaplane it took 15 minutes

Enjoyed the ferry ride to Catalina island from Long Beach. What happens if a sudden storm occurs during the journey? Do they have adequate emergency measures to deal with such storms?

One time coming back from Catalina it was windy in-between Catalina and San Pedro the swells was almost as high as the SS Catalina steam ship I got wet by sprays I saw dolphins and whales and sea lions flying fish these fish have wings we took a tour the flying fish got into the boat I went swimming on the beach at cata water is cold 60 tem the SS cata line took almost 2 hours to get to Avalon early in the morning to sea was calm coming back was rough
