Playing cavalry armies can be tricky, but luckily the Unexpected Crew are here to talk it through! We also go over some major changes coming to the NOVA Open format later this year!
Make sure to check out our friends over at Ardacon SBG International: www.ardaconsbg.com!

As an all cav army player myself, I’m loving the topic choice! There are so many tactics available to the all cavalry player that it’s quite a learning curve I find before someone gets the knack of it. But it’s so rewarding once you get past the initial challenges. I’m surprised you guys did not talk about light cav armies (like khand) vs heavy cav armies (like a morgul knight list). I find that the tactics between these lists vary significantly. Anyways, keep creating great content and remember… Eomers Riders LL is an awesome choice for any all cav general who wants a powerful competitive challenge imo.

Howdy Unexpected Podcast! Thank you so much for your thoughtful review of my list. I did take this Dwimmerlaik list to a tournament in March, and it performed okay-ish (just as y'all predicted). I got a major win, very close minor loss, and a draw. Some thoughts: 1) I thought Grishnak's warband would be a threat (strike + S4 two handed orcs could wound a leader), but it never really worked out that way. I think I will drop his warband and take Matt's advice to get a Troll Cheifton. 2) the troll /dwimmerlaik/Mouth deathball worked pretty good. I was able to control fights when all 3 were near eachother, leaving the rest of my army free to.....well, not do much because its just a bunch of orcs and grishnak. I see what Evan said about adding ketchup, dirt and charo beans to my spaghetti. 3) I ended up using the Marshall's March in every game, so that sure helped me get where I needed to be. Taking y'all advice, I came up with two variations that could work better. I'd love to hear what the bois in the chat think about my revisions: 1) Dwimmerlaik, Troll Chiefton, and Mouth on horse. Fill out warbands with 1/2 Black Numenorians, 1/2 orcs and 5 morgul knights 2) Dwimmerlaik, Troll Chiefton, and Gothmog on warg. Gothmog's warband has morannons, and the other two warbands are full of regular orcs. losing the 4th hero cuts down on warband slots, but adding in the 4th hero sinks enough points that I can't fill out the warbands anyway. I end up with about 40-43 models with all the variations I've thought of. Looking forward to seeing y'all at NOVA!! I have already cooked up a Spicy Spaghetti Salad with Milk list using another underused model: The Dark Marshal ringwraith! It seems greedy to ask y'all for a 3rd list review, so I'll just have to win NOVA and get you to talk about it that way.

Reserves and charging only part of a battle line (where you wrap around the flank) are key concepts - when me and my friends were first learning to play, we thought cavalry were garbage because they would just charge in and die). Getting about half of your guys and having a bunch more ready to charge on the next turn is really important. I also think Sorcerous Blast deserves a mention against all-cav lists - since the models that have Blast also have Command, there's an interesting threat posed to heroes of standing in the front and getting pulled forward and getting charged (Command) OR hiding behind your warriors and having a warrior get thrown into the hero (Blast). And if you can do this with an all-cav list like the Riders of Eomer, you can really mess up your opponent's day.

Hey guys love the podcast and content! I figured I would drop my dol guldur list that I have been trying to make work. I always have wanted to make the necromancer work and this is the best I have been able to use so far. I feel like it has punch with the keeper, catellans and spiders as well as some speed from the spiders and wargs.I plan to take this to my first mesbg tournament ++ Strategy Battle Game (Dark Powers of Dol Guldur) [30 Warriors, 750 Points, 8 Bow] ++ + Hero of Legend + The Necromancer of Dol Guldur [6 Warriors, 334 Points] . The Necromancer of Dol Guldur: Leader (Legend) . Warband . . Fell Warg: Claws and Teeth, 3x Warg . . Mirkwood Spider: 3x Spider, Venomous Fangs + Hero of Fortitude + The Keeper of the Dungeons [12 Warriors, 215 Points, 5 Bow] . The Keeper of the Dungeons: Armour, Sword, Two-handed Pick . Warband . . Gundabad Orc Warrior: Heavy Armour, Shield, Spear, Sword, 6x Warrior . . Gundabad Orc Warrior: Banner, Heavy Armour, Shield, Spear, Sword, Warrior . . Hunter Orc: Armour, 5x Orc, Orc Bow, Sword + Minor Hero + Castellan of Dol Guldur [6 Warriors, 101 Points, 2 Bow] . Castellan of Dol Guldur: Armour, Morgul Blade, Sword . Warband . . Gundabad Orc Warrior: Heavy Armour, Shield, Spear, Sword, 3x Warrior . . Hunter Orc: Armour, 2x Orc, Orc Bow, Sword . . Hunter Orc: Armour, Orc, Sword Castellan of Dol Guldur [6 Warriors, 100 Points, 1 Bow] . Castellan of Dol Guldur: Armour, Morgul Blade, Sword . Warband . . Gundabad Orc Warrior: Heavy Armour, Shield, Spear, Sword, 3x Warrior . . Hunter Orc: Armour, Orc, Orc Bow, Sword . . Hunter Orc: Armour, 2x Orc, Sword

As always, love the podcast! I've got an interesting list for you. I'm going to a 400pt tournament, and the stipulation is you can only have heroes of Fortitude or lower. No Valour or Legend. With that in mind, I've come up with the flowing Mordor list. Please let me know your thoughts! Shagrat w/all 115pts 6 Morannons w/shield 48pts 5 Morannons w/spear 40pts Ringwraith 2/10/1 w/horse 95pts 6 Black Numenoreans 54pts 6 Morannons w/spear 48pts Edit: Shagrat is the leader

Got a list here for review if you would be so kind gents. 700pts, 6 bows + bolt thrower, 11 might, 43 models. Faramir w/bow, heavy armour (Leader). 6 rangers of gondor w/spear. Ingold 10 womt w/shield. 1 womt w/shield, spear. 1 womt w/shield, spear, banner. Avenger boltthrower w/swift reload Forlong the fat 9 axemen of lossarnach. Angbor the fearless 9 clansmen of lamedon. This looks like four warbands but it will mainly try to operate as two warbands. Forlong and angbor team up for extra killing power thanks to their buffs and faramir and ingold do gondor things. Can switch up the team ups depending what the situation is and the boltthrower is a fun nuisance.

I'm unsure of the formats name, but you can look into a "picked play" system for teams. Teams of three, every round you get paired against a different team. Roll of for priority, winning team chooses the first match up (Team A chooses member 3 to go against Team B's member 1). Then the other team chooses and pairs the last two matches. All teams should still be balanced but you can look for or avoid bad match ups

Guess the water anchor point (near the end of the conversation) isn't valid for Army of the Dead cavalry!

I play the Dwimm sometimes with the Witch King on Felbeast & the Dwimmerlaik on Fell Beast and just try and flash nuke people with a morgul blade restricting the fate points. 2 Fel Beasts is not a bad gap closer to & a nice anti-cav fel beasts are pretty cheap for their stat line I think.
